The 18th European Club Cup for Women was a 7-round Swiss team tournament held in Rodos Palace Hotel, Rhodes, Greece, 20-26 October 2013, with the participation of eleven clubs from nine countries, including defending champions Cercle d'Echecs de Monte-Carlo which mustered Yifan Hou, Koneru, Anna Muzychuk, Cramling and Skripchenko. Of the 48 players, 12 were GMs and 9 IMs. The matches were played over four boards, with 2 points for a team win and 1 point for a draw. Time control: 90 minutes for 40 moves, then 30 more minutes till the end of the game, with 30 seconds added per move from move 1. No draw offers before move 41. First prize: 8,000 euros. Organizers: European Chess Union and the Ippotis Rhodes chess club. Tournament director: Nikolaos Kalesis. Chief arbiter: Sotiris Logothetis. Cercle d'Echecs de Monte-Carlo crushed the opposition and won again with 14/14, ahead of Ugra (Ushenina, Pogonina, Kovanova, Romanko, Shadrina) with 10/14 and SHSM Nashe Nasledie (Kosteniuk, Gunina, Kovalevskaya, Girya, Savina) in 3rd place on tiebreak with 9/14. Boric has a history of this since she didn't make it to 2 rounds at the Vienna Chess Ladies tournament. I don't know if they were late or just didn't really plan on showing up. I got the name Stefana Milutinovic from chessbomb, but she isn't even mentioned on the chess-results list of players. With an odd number of teams, somebody will get a bye each round. The Austrian team ASVOE Pamhagen got the first one. |

| Oct-21-13 | | waustad: Tomorrow is Cercle d'Echecs de Monte-Carlo vs Ugra. That could decide who wins it all, though there are several other teams that could have a say in that. As far as board prizes go, how does having no shows affect that? Do they use points, percent of performance rating? There have already been 3 in the tournament, though the first round against Ugra may be all that matters since they were all by bottom ranking teams and they aren't likely to play the top later in a Swiss, even this small a Swiss. |

I am still a fan of Pia Cramling and have been since she was the teen on the cover of Chess Life over 30 years ago. Since then I've followed her games and am very interested in what she has done, particularly in the Sicilian. |

| Oct-23-13 | | Calar: Cercle d'Echecs de Monte-Carlo is very close to winning this. They're comprised of 3 highest rated women players at the time (barring J. Polgar) - Yifan Hou, Koneru and A. Muzychuk, with Cramling and Skripchenko rounding out the team. Monte Carlo has already played, and won against most of their strongest rivals - Mika Chess Club, Ugra and SHSM Nashe Nasledie. Tomorrow, they face last strong obstacle to securing the title - CS Politechnica-Antibiotice Iasi headed by K. Lahno. I'm expecting very suspenseful fight for 2nd place, though. Perhaps Russian champion Ugra (Ushenina, Pogonina, Kovanova, Romanko, Shadrina) has the best chance, although they've yet to play another strong Russian team Nashe Nasledie (Kosteniuk, Gunina, Kovalevskaya, Girya, Savina). Their encounter is on next round. |

Da leider Eva Moser kurzfristig erkrankte und zu Hause bleiben musste, rutschte das Team in der Setzliste auf den letzten Platz. Damenreferentin Andrea Schmidbauer ist kurzentschlossen nachgereist.
