Isle of Man Masters (2014) After a seven years break, the Masters section of the PokerStars Isle of Man International Chess Tournament was played in Villa Marina, Douglas, Isle of Man, 4-12 October 2014. Time control: 100 minutes for the first 40 moves, 50 more minutes for the next 20 moves, then 15 more minutes for the rest of the game, with 30 seconds added per move from move one. PokerStars is the only site to be shut down who paid back the money they owed to players. PokerStars even bought FullTiltPoker and paid the debt of FullTiltPoker (150 millions) to the poker players worldwide. When PokerStars detect a bot, the account is banned, the money on the account confiscated and distributed to the players who have been cheated. Sep-24-15    krippp: Since I can't seem to find a free chess forum where to post (how strange for a game played by millions), I decided to post this here: IDEA FOR MAKING CHESS MORE PROFITABLE: While poker is also a game of chance, it involves high skill. People play and lose at poker, because they think they can win, while in reality better players clean them dry eventually. If poker had ELO-rankings, and equal players were matched against each other, play would stop. Equal skill, equal chance, game dead. Add this idea to Internet Chess: remove all rankings, face players randomly against each other. Add arbitrary bets per game for the winner. A draw evenly divides the pot. This way, everyone can get the belief of being able to win big money, and as they win more, they gain more cash to play with bigger bets. So the game offer includes: 1) Time per game 2) Bet per game. Now we all get rich easy, huh ? Sep-28-15    krippp: Also doable is betting on other people's games, betting against other players who bet on the same game during the same move. This divides the profits among those who bet correctly. Of course the betting service takes its share of the profits, say 5% of winnings (or wherever the price competition between service providers sets the share).
