| Aug-06-13 | | Layson: <They should just ban using the exchange variation of the French defence> I disagree. I like to play it every now and then. It tends to go this way: 1. French defense is played by my opponent
2. I perform the exchange. Muttered swears on how dull a player I am are heard.
3. I develop all of my pieces, Queen included, leaving my King in the center
4. Once my opponent castles, I castle the opposite direction and a race for the crown ensues. I don't win all of them (or maybe even most), but sometimes opponents have difficulty adapting to the "It's going to be a dull one" to the "Oh! It's a fight!" mindset. |

The last few rounds he has played very short draws.> I can't remember where I read it, but I recall someone saying he is one of those talented players who is perhaps a bit too ready to take a draw rather than fighting to the bitter end. No criticism, as he is a decent chess author, and the same comment could be said of my own chess, except I am a vastly inferior player. |
