Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-14-03  Blumster: There is an identical game listed at Morphy vs Maurian, 1869 however in that game Morphy plays without odds. The dates are three years apart, and I find it hard to believe that Maurian would fall for an exactly identical game unless he had gone senile, which might explain Morphy's playing a knight down. Much more likely is that it is a mistake, Chessgames?
Mar-02-04  N. Cline Plane: I thought that after 1858 Morphy nearly always gave odds, especially against Maurian; it seems likely therefore that this is the correct game of the two, although frankly he didn't need the N at all, did he?
Mar-02-04  capanegra: This game correct. In fact, it is a very good lesson about “how to play the Muzio against ♘ odds”.
Mar-02-04  square dance: i also was under the impression that morphy only played chess at odds after he came back from europe. against maurian i am quite sure that he never played anything less than knight odds after the european trip even though maurian eventually started winning the majority of games against morphy under these conditions.
Jan-13-06  Pawn Ambush: Pin and Win!
Jan-29-09  WhiteRook48: wow, is a pin your favorite tactic?
Jul-26-09  tentsewang: Simply Morphy is the Best of the Best!

Paul Morphy at his best!

in the world of materialism these days, no chessmaster could offer the knight enprise...despite the engine indicating -3.50, Paul showcased his mastery by moving 5.d4

Mar-25-11  Llawdogg: Who needs knights anyway?
Aug-05-12  Cemoblanca: 1 horse is enough for a human! Especially for a superhuman like Morphy! ;0)
