Jun-05-03  ivan2kilu: Marin is a top player on worldchessnetwork.com, find him there!
Feb-05-04  ruylopez900: A good book by Mihail Marin is "Secrets of Chess Defense". Good ideas on an oft forgotten subject.
Mar-18-04  Gypsy: I second the prize of the book.
Jun-13-04  BiLL RobeRTiE: Just a question regarding transliteration - what's the proper way of saying [and spelling in English] this dude's first name? I've heard it pronounced Mi(ch)ail, with the (ch) being sort of a guttural sound, like the one that one makes when one hawks a loogie or pronounces the name 'Bach' correctly. Is this right?
Jun-13-04  Knezh: That is indeed correct.

Mar-12-05  TheHappyPrince: I think Marin was Judit Polgar's second during Corus this year.
Mar-12-05  cade: This guy really loves his draws.
Nov-12-05  Hesam7: "Secrets Of Attacking Chess" is a wonderful book by Marin. I really enjoy reading it. Highly recommended.
Nov-12-05  KingG: <Hesam7> Yeah, i've got it as well. Haven't finished it though. Have you got his previous book, Secrets of Chess Defence?
Nov-12-05  Hesam7: Unfortunately not. But this book is almost fascinating. "The Paradox of Century" or the chapter on Morphy are very original.
Nov-12-05  KingG: Yes that's true, i actually bought the book because of the chapter on Morphy.
Nov-12-05  Hesam7: <KinG> Do you have the "Secrets of Chess Defense" ?
Nov-12-05  KingG: <Hesam7> No. But i've heard that it's a great book. More systematic than SOAC. There is a review by Watson somewhere where he says that it's one of the best books on defence he's ever seen.
Nov-12-05  KingG: <Hesam7> Here's Watson's review: http://www.jeremysilman.com/book_re...
Nov-13-05  Hesam7: <KingG> thx for the link.
Mar-13-06  AdrianP: I have just got his "Learn from the Legends" (which won chesscafe.com's book of the year) and it's fantastic.

Jun-12-06  virginmind: yes, a very good romanian gm, third after nisipeanu and istratescu, rating-wise.
Aug-26-06  Albertan: Marin is a Benoni Defense practioner and expert of this defense. In the 1994 Moscow Olympiad he defeated GM Akopian using the Benoni. Here is the game score:

May-02-07  pazzed paun: does anyone yet own "beating the open games" and also "A Spanish opening repertoire for black?'" by M.M.? Any reviews yet?
May-03-07  Interbond: In British Chess Magazine's May reviews you can find a short review of "Beating the open games". And you can find sample pages at:www.chessdirect.co.uk/acatalog/CATALOGUE_SHOP_e_paw- n_10.html
Nov-08-07  jperr75108: Carsten Hansen reviews both in his "checkpoint" column this month at chesscafe.com. Both seem to be very favorable reviews
Dec-22-07  whiskeyrebel: Jeremy Silman has reviews of these two books up at his website. Marin is a skilled writer. He seems particularly strong when it comes to getting concepts across. His prose is way stronger than many if not most chess authors...in my humble opinion.
Dec-22-07  protean: "Learn from the Legends - Chess Champions at their Best" is an excellent book. It won ChessCafe.com's Book of the Year for 2005.
