KATERYNA LAGNO
(born Dec-27-1989, 35 years old) Ukraine (federation/nationality Russia)
PRONUNCIATION:
[what is this?]

Ekaterina Alexandrovna Lagno (Kateryna Olexandrivna Lahno in Ukrainian) was born on December 27, 1989 in Ukraine. In 2002 she became, at the age of twelve years, four months and two days, the youngest Woman Grandmaster (WGM) in chess history. In 2007 she became the eleventh woman to be awarded the Grandmaster title.

In 2003 she won a round-robin in Kramatorsk with a performance rating of 2622, finishing a full point ahead of a field that included three grandmasters. In 2005 she became European Women's Champion after winning a tie-break match with Nadezhda Kosintseva and repeated this success in 2008. She qualified for the Women's World Championship Knockout Tournament (2012) and defeated Khaled Mona in the first round, only to fall to Georgian IM and WGM Lela Javakhishvili in the second round, thereby exiting the title contest.

In 2009 she married French GM Robert Fontaine.

WannaBe: "Why, yes! I will be voting for Mr. Putin."

"Yes, Senior Carlos A. Ilardo, they all got together and kept Gaston Needleman out of the tournament."

"Yes, Senior Carlos A. Ilardo, I know Lance Armstrong took drugs, I have evidence too!"

"If Coke don't re-negotiate my contract soon, I'm going to Pepsi."

Sep-26-05  Raskolnikov: Something like http://kosteniuk.com/albums/gotebor....
Sep-26-05  jahhaj: How about this one? http://eiwcc2005.chisinau.md/imagin...
Oct-09-05  percyblakeney: Lahno is 2509 on FIDE's October list, but at the moment she's +0 -5 =2 in a tournament where the average ELO is lower than that (the B group of the tournament discussed on Vassily Ivanchuk). With a performance close to 2200 this far she's bound to lose many points.
Oct-09-05  iron maiden: She had a tournament like this last year, too: she was close to 2500, but then went something like 1/5/11 in a round robin and lost around 50 rating points. I think she's gotten too used to playing in women-only events.
Oct-12-05  Agt: After Lahno finished at 1.5/9 in Karabakh B 2005 (Category 11), Susan Polgar wrote "When it rains, it pours! A very important lesson in chess!" (http://susanpolgar.blogspot.com/200...)

alexmagnus: That Karabakh tournament was really bad for her level.. Don*t know what happened with her but I'm sure "the women only events" before are not the reason
Nov-17-05  iron maiden: Lahno will be among the participants of Corus B in January. With Vescovi, Navara, Beliavsky, Almasi and Motylev it looks to be the strongest B-group they've ever had. http://coruschess.com/

Nov-23-05  azaris: Beliavsky? Doesn't he get tired of playing against children?

alexmagnus: She is 12 on the foto, it was made shortly before she became WGM.

It really needs to be changed. But chessgames.com seem to keep image of very young people (Karjakin's foto was also long time not replaced by a new one).
