CHESSGAMES - BEER

[what is this?]

Beer is believed to be over 10,000 years old. Although no one knows its exact origins, some agricultural historians believe that the first beer may have been produced accidentally when a stash of grain was soaked by rain and then warmed by the sun. If this mixture were spontaneously fermented by wild, airborne yeast—which thrives in just these warm, moist conditions—beer would have been produced (Encarta).

Fermented beverages have been preferred over water throughout the ages: they are safer, provide psychotropic effects, and are more nutritious. Some have even said alcohol was the primary agent for the development of Western civilization, since more healthy individuals (even if inebriated much of the time) lived longer and had greater reproductive success.   tpstar: Shh - don't ask, don't tell, right? You might have overlooked how that was an explicit picture, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, know what I mean?
Dec-05-04  meloncio: Eight kibitzing pages for just one game here (and it's a draw!); it must be a record. I like good beer as anyone but, don't you think is too much addiction? :-D

offramp: Although I have over 1000 posts I must confess that about 50% of them have been saying [Diagram?] to <LIFE Master AJ.>
Dec-06-04  aw1988: <Can I be a member of Sneaky's Darts Club Band?> LOL. Very clever.
Dec-06-04  Knight13: I don't believe chessgames.com made this place a real BEER place. I think Beer is someone's name.
Dec-06-04  Swindler: And a fine name it's too! Anybody know his (or her) nationality?
Dec-06-04  TheSlid: As ever, <Knight13> you are correct. I once worked with a gentleman named Adrian Beer. He did not play chess and did not drink much, either. IMO he also had virtually no sense of humour. No doubt there is an entire clan of Beers out there.
Dec-06-04  TheSlid: <Swindler> The Beer I knew was definitely English. I would imagine the name derives from a Brewer of Beer, that is a drink made from malted barley, with the addition of hops, as distinct from the medieval drink of Ale, which predated hops and was made to a much higher specific gravity. The addition of hops acted as an anti-bacterialogical agent and permitted the brewing of a much lighter drink.
Dec-06-04  aw1988: I once knew a Derek Ale.
Dec-06-04  Knight13: A clan of people just makes fun of Beer name. He he. Whatever.
Dec-06-04  Swindler: <TheSlid> Strange he didn't change his name, it must be the cause of much amusement among his friends if anything. Oh, and you don't need to tell me what beer is, I know it all to well! ;-)
Dec-07-04  TheSlid: Beer does not seem to have a Grade. Perhaps he has a Specific Gravity instead.
Dec-07-04  Poulsen: A minor town in Denmark is called "Ølstykke", which can be translated into "Beer-piece" or perhaps rather "Beer-place".

Maybe he is danish?

Dec-07-04  Poulsen: The town Ølstykke/Oelstykke can be found near the top edge of this map:

Dec-07-04  AgentRgent: As has become Chessgames.com tradtion, I'm having a Beer to celebrate my 1000th post! Though I didn't get here as quickly as some, I've certainly enjoyed the journey. Cheers! and Thanks! To all of you who made it a lot of fun!

cu8sfan: <AgentRgent> Congratulations! It's not how fast you get here... You're on place 40 of users who have kibitzed the most: ChessGames.com Statistics Page This means that from now on we can't even monitor who's getting close to quadruple digits.
Dec-07-04  Knight13: Is there A Fish at The Smallest River?
Dec-07-04  yoozum: you know you're drinking too much when Beer has more kibitzes than shirov, topalov and kamsky, not to mention other 2700s, i'm sure.
Dec-08-04  Knight13: A Bishop drinks a lot because he is rich and strong. A Knight drinks a lot also because it makes him look like a strong Knight.

Got alcohol?

Dec-10-04  aw1988: <*NEW* Search Sacrifice Explorer for Beer>

Ay lass, twas only a pint.

Dec-12-04  vonKrolock: Robert Beer was one of the finalists in "Kuppenheimer Sparkassen Cup", a blitz-ty from chessbase.de server in 2003. If his surname is of German origin, then it's probably related, not to English BEER, but to BERRY. The real beer's page is therefore Max Bier -Cheers!
