 | | HeMateMe: Yes, congratulations. |
May-16-13 | | hellopolgar: So WGP Geneva gave her the third norm. Where did the first two come from? |
May-16-13 | | Nerwal: <Where did the first two come from?> FIDE has registered one from recent Dubai Open :
http://ratings.fide.com/title_norms... I guess the first norm would come from the 2010 Rethymno Open mentioned above. |
May-17-13 | | hellopolgar: Ah, I see, thanks! |
Aug-26-14 | | waustad: She is the ratings favorite at the Ehrfurt Frauenschachfestival. They needed 3 GMs so that there were possible GM norms available, and that is a lot of what this seems to be about. Shen Yang said in her interview that a norm is her goal. She lost in the first round and that won't help. My guess is that they made it worth the trouble for GMs Bela Khotenashvili, Monika Socko and Ketevan Arakhamia-Grant to play, hoping that Elizabeth P gets another GM norm. They had hoped to get Valentina Gunina but that didn't seem to work out. In a tournament like this, one would have th crush the opposition to get the needed 2600 performance rating: http://chess-results.com/tnr133918.... |
Aug-28-14 | | waustad: <hellopolgar>One complication is that people often don't submit norms to FIDE until they have enough to get a title, so many more people have earned norms than have registered them. I suspect it might have to do with a fee or else people just hate doing that sort of paperwork unless they get anything tangible for it. It seems to have come back and bitten Ju Wenjun though. |

 | | ketchuplover: 7.5/9 at the world team event! |
Apr-29-15 | | Nerwal: Bela is definitely a great talent and had excellent performances in the last couple of years : got a victory and a second place at the FIDE Grand Prix, won the lady prize at the Qatar Open 2014 with a +2700 perf playing nothing but strong GMs, and 2700 again at the World team championship, gold on first board by a wide margin. But she had also very poor ones in-between. With more consistency she could easily be a 2600 player as her chess is quite universal. |

 | | DaltriDiluvi: Her infant son has cancer. She's raising money for his treatment: https://www.chessbase.in/news/Bela-... |
Jul-17-22 | | ILikeKeres: The GoFundMe link for her child is here:
https://www.gofundme.com/f/save-a-c... Her child has neuroblastoma, a rare brain cancer, and the treatments are experimental and expensive. If you do decide to donate, you would potentially be saving a life, and bringing a novel therapeutic to market which could save other kids with neuroblastoma too. |
