Mar-02-06 | | whiskeyrebel: He's paired in the 1st round against Akobian...a tough opponent for anybody playing in San Diego. We'll see... |
Mar-02-06 | | midknightblue: Tate: "boy what I would do for a digital clock"
Guy next to him: "boy what I would do for a 3 dollar pen" |
Mar-02-06 | | Jim Bartle: Looking through all the new kibitzing, looks as if midknightblue found the key to the liquor cabinet last night. Think I'll send him a bottle. |
Mar-02-06 | | midknightblue: <JB> Thx, excellent guess. You would be right about 50% of the time with that choice. Last night, however, was a late night at work, and I decided a diversion was necessary, rather than finishing up some rather tedious stuff, before leaving. |
Mar-02-06 | | Jim Bartle: That's when I do most of my posting: avoiding work. |
Mar-02-06 | | SickedChess: Akobian, like other armenians, play always the french defense |
Mar-02-06 | | Resignation Trap: Tate often tries the Wing Gambit against the French: 1.e4 e6 2.Nf3 d5 3.e5 c5 4.b4!? Will he try it at the US Championship? |
Mar-02-06
 | | chancho: Here's a nice game he played in that opening.
E Tate vs Takemoto, 1993 |
Mar-02-06 | | mynameisrandy: This game is getting very good. Tate, as always, has gone on the attack and appears to be setting up a situation where he can get 3 pawns for a bishop by sacrificing it on h6. That's one possibility, anyway. He's looking for forcing measures and might be in trouble if he doesn't find them. He allowed Akobian a passed pawn so he could whip up his attack. |
Mar-02-06 | | Resignation Trap: Tate has at least a draw against Akobian. You may notice that Black avoided the natural 6...Nbd7 due to 7.g4 Bg6 8.Ne5 Bf5 9.Qf3 Nd6 10.Qxd5 . |

Mar-02-06 | | Chess Classics: Tate lost on time :(

Mar-02-06
 | | Joshka: Just heard on the ICC Webcast that Tate won!? |
Mar-02-06
 | | tamar: Tate won in 41 moves. |
Mar-02-06 | | Mating Net: Tremendous attacking game by Tate in typical swashbuckling style against Akobian. Can't wait 'til it's added to the database so we can go analyze it. |
Mar-02-06 | | dafish298: i withdraw my comment that tate would get killed...lol...looks like a crazy us championship since nakamura lost too |
Mar-02-06 | | Jim Bartle: Bizarro chess? |
Mar-02-06 | | Chess Classics: Oops, sorry gang. Playchess.com said that he lost on time-I seem to have been misinformed. Regards,

Mar-03-06 | | Illogic: What a huge win for Tate. Good for him. Great imagination in his play |
Mar-03-06 | | whiskeyrebel: Congrats to Mr. Tate. He really went after Akobian who is certainly a great player. It was fun to watch Tate play an opening I like to use and do so much with it. |
Mar-03-06
 | | WannaBe: Boy, now I am REALLY looking forward to my little trip to San Diego this weekend!!! |
Mar-04-06 | | whiskeyrebel: Uh oh....Goldin took Tate apart in 21 moves in round 2. It looked like one of the mini-games from books like "winning quickly at chess"...or like a monster truck running over a porta-potty. |
Mar-10-06
 | | WannaBe: Tate played the Polish?! What was he thinking!! |
Mar-11-06
 | | Joshka: <WannaBe> The opening choice by Tate did not do him in, the game was lost in the middle. Had Tate castled the outcome very well could have been different. I believe in what Tartakower stated, "Dubious, therefore playable":-) |
Mar-11-06 | | azaris: The game had nothing to do with 1.b4, they transposed to KID Bayonet Attack. Many of Tate's games begin with some rare opening but quickly transpose to main lines. |
Mar-11-06
 | | Joshka: <Azaris> Wow thanks for the info, wonder why the <chessgames.com> database can't calculate when certain lines actually go into other mainline openings? thanks again for the info! |
