Apr-13-06  MaxxLange: <joshka> A typical chess database program scheme is to compute ("hash") the position into a "key" and then compare that key to a tree of keys of known chess positions. Thinking in terms of positions instead of move order simplifies the problem dramatically.
Apr-13-06  MaxxLange: <azaris> I studied with Tate in the late 90's, and everything you said is correct according to what he told me himself about his approach to transpositions.
Jun-05-06  wharfrat: <azaris> Tate's game with Serper that began with 1.b4 did not transpose to the Bayonet Attack of the KID because White has a pawn on e4 in that system, not Black.
Jul-06-06  geraldo8187: tate had an excellent performance recently at the world open in philadelphia. in the final round, tate faced gm zapata. as both of their times dwindled, tate managed to go from two pawns down to a mating attack which evened the material, but ran out his opponents time. afterwards, tate was saying that he thinks he earned a gm norm. can anyone confirm this?
Jul-18-06  kellmano: You gotta rate Tate. Read about him in Chess magazine a couple of months ago. He doesn't appear to fond of the draw!
Jul-18-06  Classic Analysis: < geraldo8187: tate had an excellent performance recently at the world open in philadelphia. in the final round, tate faced gm zapata. as both of their times dwindled, tate managed to go from two pawns down to a mating attack which evened the material, but ran out his opponents time. afterwards, tate was saying that he thinks he earned a gm norm. can anyone confirm this? >

Tate won on time because GM Zapata forgot about the clock as he confirmed in analysis here in Puerto Rico. After analyzing the position, we quickly found that Tate was completly lost, and according to Tate he made a GM norm , but I do not think his GM material yet

Jul-26-06  geraldo8187: <chess analysis> tate has been gm material for years
Jul-27-06  Rocafella: My anniversary post on this page! That wing gambit looks slightly dubious?
Oct-12-06  geraldo8187: <chessgames> emory is not from gary, indiana, but rather from elkhart, indiana, my hometown.
Oct-12-06  MaxxLange: Emory has a column now in Chess Life online, I'm glad to see that.
Dec-10-06  Billy Ray Valentine: MaxxLange, is Emory Tate's column a regular thing? I just see one article when doing a search:

http://beta.uschess.org/frontend/ne...

Dec-27-06  diemjay: <Rocafella> <Is it me, or on the pic does Emory loook a bit shifty...like he's done something wrong :)>

<AdrianP> <"Oh my god, I think I left the iron on...?">

After reading that I laughed so hard that milk came out my nose...and I wasn't even drinking milk!

Cheers

Dec-27-06  Brown: Perhaps some believe he is "not GM material" yet because he is "not too fond of the draw."

Bronstein, may he rest in piece, decided early on that Larsen was not a serious challenger to the WC title because the latter never learned to draw "appropriately." I forget where I saw that. Prophetic, if it came before Bent's match with Bobby.

plang: Yes, well chess fans everywhere benefit enormously from players with an uncompromising style.
Dec-27-06  Dobbs: Anyone described as "swashbuckling" is amazing. Even if they are a terrible ches player.
Dec-27-06  MaxxLange: <Billy Ray Valentine> That's all I see too....I don't know if there will be more or not
Dec-27-06  Neztop: <chessgames.com> in the game E Tate vs V Akobian, 2006 Tate's rating is 2441 and in the top of the page says that his highest rating achieved is 2377. Which is the correct one?
Dec-29-06  MaxxLange: <neztop> the difference may be USCF vs. FIDE ratings?
Jan-11-07  geraldo8187: must be, because his uscf rating has been over 2400 for awhile

Feb-03-07  WarmasterKron: About time too!
Apr-20-07  Thrajin: Tate recently played in the Reykjavik International tournament. Here is a link to the games he played there.

Apr-21-07  Poisonpawns: Looking at Tates games from this tournament,it seems his openings are a MAJOR problem. His tactical ability is what keeps him afloat. If he would just tighten up his openings a bit,i think he would be GM easily.
Jul-25-07  manethos: Does anyone know the result of the Tate - Shabalov game from the Curacao Festival...Tate is currently 6-1
Jul-26-07  geraldo8187: tate lost the shaba game and faces off against joel benjamin for the last round. if he wins, he gets a gm norm. anyone know how many he already has?
