Jun-29-09 | | karnak64: Ah, but isn't "Rafal Furdzik" an anagram for "Karl Durfzair"? Do you deny it? Are you now, or have you ever been someone so named? Or how about "Farak Lurdzkif"? I'm sure I played him (who is undoubtedly one of your split personalities) in the Filafel-Lutefisk championships back in '01, and the coincidence is too strong to overlook. And he (you?) even played the Nimzo-Indian defense, which features prominently a Pinned Piece. Case closed. Check and mate. Outahere. |

Jul-02-09 | | Ed Trice: <PinnedPiece> By your last statement, are you claiming while you haven't read the book, you know more than International Master Lawrence Day, who has read the book? A simple yes or no will suffice. |
|
Jul-02-09 | | Ed Trice: <PinnedPiece> If you hold to your belief, state your full name, the city where you live, and post on here exactly who you think wrote the book. If you're telling the truth, you have nothing to worry about, right? |
|
Jul-02-09 | | PinnedPiece: <Ed Trice> Please see my response elsewhere. |
|
Jul-07-09 | | Ed Trice: No thanks <PinnedPiece> you've demonstrated ample bias and you're content to avoid the most important facts. Like how the girl from Canada knew Fischer was going to die when nobody else in the world made any such prediction. |
|
Jul-07-09
 | | chancho: Fischer was going to die because he refused further treatment. What is so miraculous about the so called "prediction"? |

Oct-22-09 | | BohdanL: Dear Lawrence,
I am quite interesting in your book "Big Clamp ...". Is it still possible to get a copy of it? On what move order is based your system : 1.e4 2.d3 3.f4 or as in the N.Davies CD: 3.g3? You have presented here a lot of interesting information about ukrainian player F.Bohatirchuk, may I ask you about whether you have plan to write a book about this player? with best wishes

 | | IMlday: <Bohdant> It's long out of print but Hardinge-Simpole has the Modern Chess Theory annuals with the two articles it's based on. Basically it was a game collection. I used the name "Big Clamp" more to describe the strategic motif in the middlegame rather than a particular move order. Against the Sicilian I could get some by 1.e4 c5 2.d3 but my guys never tried 2..d5!?; likewise 2.g3 d5, or the now-normal 2.f4 d5. 1.e4 e6 2.Qe2 or 1.e4 c6 2.f4
can lead to clamps also.
There are a couple of Bohatirchuk books in English and Russian in the works; I've contributed but am not the main author. |

Oct-25-09 | | D4n: IM L. Day,
I have interest in tournement play. I am hoping for adivce on the best way to prepare or tips of any sort. Thank you, and I also want to let you know I enjoy your games! |

 | | IMlday: Thanks <D4n>. If you're eager and enthusiastic that goes a long way. One tip is that chess is complicated, you don't have to understand it, just understand it better than the other guy. |

 | | ray keene: yes i can confirm that lawrence days big clamp is still available in modern chess theory volumes for 1980/81 and 1981/82 these can be acquired from amazon or via www.hardingesimpole.co.uk
the article is in two parts i think-the closed sicilian and the big clamp-a masterpiece of research and creativity by lawrence--btw lawrence-i just noticed and posted some comments on chessgames.com to my win v yanofsky from nice 1974-a true rat!! the opening i mean |

who played it a lot. <PB> Ho! I managed to win that tournament. The Grand Pacific Hotel has added a mallard pond and I felt quite at home. <arthurp> yes but the pace is glacial. |
