Apr-10-18  morfishine: I started with 1,000CB and finished with 207. Does that win anything?

chessgames.com: OK folks, the leaderboard is 100% accurate, congratulations to <Count Wedgemore> for blowing away the competition and amassing 61,092 chessbucks. They win a $100 gift certificate to the The Chessgames Store and a 1 year membership to Chessgames, as well as automatic inclusion in next year's championship.

2nd place goes to <wallytherhino> with 37,515 chessbucks, winning a $25 gift certificate, a 1 year membership to Chessgames, and inclusion in next year's championship.

3rd place goes to <beatgiant> with 32,512 chessbucks, winning a 1 year membership to Chessgames and inclusion in next year's championship.

Places 4-10 all win free 4-month trial memberships (or 4 months added on if they are already premium members) as well as inclusion in next year's championship.

<GIFT CERTIFICATES> I'm waiting on getting the certificate codes via email; I should have them today or tomorrow at the latest. I will forward them to the winners accounts as soon as I get them. If your email is not correct in your account you should update it ASAP so you get the prize.

<THE NEXT LEG> The next leg will begin shortly, in time for the US Championship April 17th.

<NOTE RE: BUGS> During this leg it was pointed out that there is something buggy with the new "automatic seeding" feature. The issue was that tickets were being paid out slightly off from the displayed odds. We assessed the severity of the issue, and intentionally left this unaddressed because we didn't think it would be proper to tinker with the code once the leg was in progress, especially with the risk of turning a small bug into a big one. Now that the leg is over we'll take a closer look at it and make it work properly as well as creating more powerful features for the bookie to take control of this.

<GRATITUDE> A big round of applause for User: Annie K. for tirelessly conducting this leg.

Penguincw: Congrats to the new champion, <Count Wedgemore> and the runner ups. Big thanks to <Annie K.> for making this exciting leg possible.

I finished with probably a personal high of 7,113 cbs. I believe that's 4th among non-qualifiers (congrats to runner-up <wallytherhino> BTW for qualifying for next year after missing it this year). Better than last year where I did qualify, and I believe I finished 11th or 12th.

Tough competition this year. 10K (or 11K) cbs wasn't gonna re-qualify you.

Apr-11-18  wallytherhino: Thank you for the countless hours <Annie K.>

Thank you <Penguincw> for the compliments. The trick to grinding from 1 to 10K is taking calculated risks. Those calculated risks had me in the negative in a small portion of the competition. Many of the rounds while I was sitting around 20K-25K I would borrow to make high CB value bets on for sure patterns. The flip side of trying to take advantage of tournament trends is that sometimes you get too ambitious for your own good and fall out of the safety of the top 10 (which has happened to me 2-3 times since the inception of the game in 2006).

<zborris8: Maybe there could be a "Hall of Infamy" for the best of the worst?>

<zborris8> a hall of infamy of would discourage someone from fighting from behind. I have seen many of the chessbookie veterans crawl back from the last place into a respectable position.

moronovich: Kudos to you <wallytherhino> !

Well it certainly takes an effort to go from a few bucks to the top.So... Last year I came close to winning it all
starting from around -6000.So hope for everyone in this funny game.

The record is set by <chnebelgrind> who a couple of years won it all, starting out on 1.000.

Apr-11-18  Count Wedgemore: I wholeheartedly agree with <wallytherhino>. If a player ends up with a negative score it only shows that he/she has been willing to take chances. That shouldn't be discouraged.

OhioChessFan: I think it's pathetic to see people with negative 10,000 or more. They aren't trying to predict results. They are trying to game the game.
Apr-11-18  Count Wedgemore: <OhioChessFan> Yes, there's always the danger of someone trying to "game the game", as you put it, in contests like these (like the problem with the Games Prediction Contest where only predicting highly improbable results may land you a jackpot or two, enough to win the Betting Ranker). But, this doesn't seem to be much of a problem in this excellently run Chessbookie game.

If you look at the final standings, there isn't anyone with a negative score that exceeds 10k (the bottom placed contender ended on -9,271cbs). And out of 240 contestants there are only 13 players that ended up "in the red", that's less than 5.5%. So I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Apr-11-18  morfishine: Do I get a re-load of CB's for the Spring cycle bringing me back to 1,000 CB's, or do I start with my miserable 207 CB's remaining from my disastrous Grenke tournament?
Apr-11-18  WinKing: We all start with 1,000 chessbucks <morf>. I will be the chessbookie for the Spring Leg.
Apr-11-18  technical draw: Thank you <Annie K>. Now, can you lobby for me and get me out of 11th place into, let's say, 10 3/4?

eternaloptimist: Sweet! I finished in the top 10! This is the first time I've finished in the top 10 in the *championship* leg. I'd like to thank <CG> for the 4-months of free membership added to my premium membership! I'd also like to thank <Annie K.> for doing an excellent job as the bookie. Apr-12-18  morfishine: <WinKing> Thanks, thats what I figured. I hope to do better starting at the beginning (instead of just the last two tournaments). Good Luck!
