Aug-13-18  Count Wedgemore: I saw that I'd dropped down from 4th to 5th. Now I know why. I was run over by the <morf> express. Well played..
Aug-14-18  morfishine: <moronovich> & <Count Wedgemore> Sometimes luck pays off but sometimes it doesn't! In the last game of Biel its was Carlsen vs the doormat Nico Georgiadis: Carlsen vs N Georgiadis, 2018

I figured Carlsen lacked incentive having lost to Mamedyarov and with it any chance of 1st prize. So I plunked down 1,000 CB's to draw paying 3.5 odds. Sure enough, the position arrived at a dead draw with R+B vs Carlsen's R+N, but Carlsen had an ugly doubled pawn to boot! I was gleefully calculating that my winnings of 3,500 CB's would propel me into 1st place. It was just a matter of time before they shook hands.

But alas, Nico made a dreadful, positively horrific blooper and lost :(

These luck things can work both ways

Aug-14-18  sydbarrett: I think Carlsen's incentive is to not lose rating points and to destroy destroy. But yeah I had some money riding on draw too because why not (I think it was a good strat too)...

Will there be any bets before Olympiad? Four weeks is a long idle time.

Aug-14-18  sydbarrett: Mamedyarov blowing a win against Naka. Karjakin losing to Caruana. Ow, and ow. O_O
Aug-14-18  morfishine: <sydbarrett> I would ask <Winking> or <Annie K.> if there are any other tournaments that they could at least offer up some games to wager on...

Annie K.: Sure, the actual (classical) Sinquefield starts on the 18th. The "St Louis" events were only the first part of it.

Aug-18-18  morfishine: Aronian beat Karjakin while Caruana drew with Grischuk
Aug-19-18  morfishine: Grischuk/Mame drew & So/Naka drew so far for round 2
Aug-19-18  morfishine: Everythings drawn except MC vs K, which is still going on
Aug-20-18  morfishine: MC/Aronian drew, Anand/Karjakin drew & So/Legrave drew; Mamed and Naka look to have advantage
Aug-22-18  sydbarrett: I forgot to bet the last one and half days... which is good because I would have lost $$$... nothing but draws!!!
Aug-22-18  morfishine: <sydbarrett> Happens sometimes, this lapse works out for you, Good Luck!
Aug-22-18  WinKing: After a horrendous start I'm ever so slowly creeping up in the standings. Need that 'big hit' though.
Aug-23-18  morfishine: <Winking> Good Luck! It can be exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time! Twice this tournament, I've come within 1-game of scoring a 3-4,000 CB payday but alas, no luck
Aug-25-18  WinKing: Thanks <morfishine>. Yeah I've been close a few times also but no real luck yet. We gotta stay upbeat though.
Aug-26-18  technical draw: Looking at the last 21 closed events there was one win and 20 draws! I'm getting out of this racket. No more bets from me. And I'm not going to pay the loan shark back either. Let his boys try to find me...

Aug-28-18  morfishine: <bookie> Sinquefield winner also needs to be cleared
Aug-28-18  morfishine: I imagine the World Chess Olympiad (23 Sep - 6 Oct) will have some juicy games to wager on: I can hardly wait!

Chessgames Bookie: All bets have been settled now.

Although the rules for Sinquefield Cup: Winner stipulated that the tournament's normal tie-break procedure would be followed to determine a single winner, in this case that could not be done since Carlsen, Caruana and Aronian decided to share first place and not play tie-breaks. So all three players paid as winners, at reduced odds. (If somebody's unclear on how the reduced odds are calculated, it is explained at Chessgames Bookie chessforum (kibitz #4844).)

The next Bookie tournament (and the last tournament of the Summer Leg) will be the always-exciting Chess Olympiad, scheduled to start on September 24, with the first bets hopefully going up at least some days earlier. Can the United States (in the open section) and China (in the women's section) defend their titles? Stay tuned!

Chessgames Bookie: <morfishine> It is unlikely there will be much betting on individual games during the Olympiad. We will take that opportunity if possible, but usually the board pairings in team events are announced too late for it to be practical.

You should expect betting on overall winners, match results and scores, handicapped matches, match daily doubles/triples, and exotics. There might be betting on individual players' overall performance at the Olympiad (like "who will have the highest performance rating in the open section", or "will player A's rating go up or down", or "which of these X players will do best on metric Y"); which will likely be your last chance this leg to back a specific player.

Aug-28-18  morfishine: <Chessgames Bookie> Those are exactly the type of bets I need to get back into it: High odds - High payout! Thanks!

WannaBe: Shoot, no one told me there was a Bunny Rabbit Special, would have thrown in 10cb just for the heck of it!
