<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Dec-02-06  thegoodanarchist: <YouRang: I've been looking at <30...fxg6 31. Qg5 Rc2 <32. h4>> It looks like the pawn attack: 32. h4 is a viable option for white (which may be useful to know if someone finds a hole in the 'main line' 32. Rf7).

It seems that black must play <32...Re6>, which guards the d6 pawn against Qd8+ and Qxd5. [Not 32...Re2, which loses to 33. R1f2! Qe8 34. Rxe2 Rxe2 35. Qxf5+ Kh8 36. Qxd6 ]

Now, <33. h5> (threat: 34. h6 winning the bishop).>

33.Rf7 may be stronger than h5: 34...Qe8 35.Ra7

or 34...Rxb2 35.Qd8+ Qe8 36.Rd7

Dec-02-06  Artar1: If anyone was wondering about 31...Rc2 32.R1f2, it's not so good for White, for it leads to an equal position:

31...Rc2 32.R1f2 Rxf2 33.Rxf2 Qc6 34.Rf3 Qb5

<[34...Qb7 35.Rc3 Re7 36.Qf4 Rd7 37.Rf3 Kh8 (37...Rf7 loses the endgame for Black) 38.Re3 Qa8 39.Qf3 Kg8 and Black is passive ]>

35.h4 Kh8 36.h5 (maintaining the pressure) 36...gxh5 37.Rf7 Rg8 38.Qxh5 Qxb2 39.Qxd5 Qe2 40.Qf3 Qd2 =

Domdaniel: <Ohio> Just for the record, a winning sac for White if Black grabs the b2-pawn. I posted this on p.834 - various people had certainly seen the same idea earlier, but I couldn't easily find it set down anywhere. So:

31...Rc2 32.Rf7 Rxb2? 33.Rxg7+! Kxg7 34.Qf6+ Kh6 35.Rf4 Re4 36.Qf8+ Kh5 37.Bd8

Black must either try the sac 37...Rxg2+ - which fails to get a perpetual - or be mated himself. But can't he try 37...Qe2, threatening mate?

No.
38.Rf5+! gxf5 39.Qxf5+ Kh6 40.Qg5#
or 38...g5 39.Rxg5+ Kh4 40.Re5#

Dec-02-06  Artar1: I found an improvement in the 31...Rc2 32.R1f2 line for White. Now I have to see if I can find improvements for Black.

31... Rc2 32. R1f2 Rxf2 33. Rxf2 Qc6 34. Rf3 Qb5 35. Rc3 Kh8 36. b3 Qf1 37. Rf3 Qb5 38. Qc1

<[38. h4 Rg8 39. Qe7 Qb4 40. Qe3 Rb8 41. Qc3 Qxc3 42. Rxc3 Bf6 43. Rc6 Be7 44. g4 h5 45. g5 Kg8 46. Kg3 Kf7 47. Rc7 Ra8 48. Kf3 Ke6 49. Ke3 Kf7 50. b4 Ke6 51. Rb7 Kf7 52. Bc7 Ke6 53. Ke2 Kd7 54. Bb6+ Ke6 (It will be hard to make progress for White in this line.)]>

38... Kg8 39. Qc7 Rf8 40. Rxf8+ Bxf8 41. Qc8 Kg7 42. Bd8 Qe8 43. Qc7+ Kg8 44. Bh4 Qe4 45. Bf2 Qf4+ 46. Kg1 Qd2 47. Qb6 Qc1+ 48. Kh2 Bh6 49. Qxa6 Bf4+ 50. g3 Qd2 51. Kg2 Be3 52. Qc8+ Kg7 53. Qc7+ Kh6 54. Qf7 Bxf2 55. Qxf2 Qxa5 56. Qf8+ Kh5 57. h4 Qd2+ 58. Qf2 Qxf2+ 59. Kxf2 Kg4 60. b4

Fritz 8; 14-ply per each half move.

Dec-02-06  TTLump: I am looking at this line:

31... Rc2, 32.Rf7 Ree2

So far it looks fairly drawish, but with lots of sharp variations.

for example:
33.Kh1 Re8, 34.Bd8 Kh8, 35.R7f4 Kg8,
36.Bf6 Bxf6, 37.Rxf6 Rc7, 38.Qf4 looks pretty good for White, but I haven't found a clear win yet, however, Black can try 36... Bf8, 37.Bh8 Rxb2, 38.Kh2 which I think is drawish but with extremely sharp play.

Is anyone else looking at this line?

Domdaniel: <Ohio> The move forums, after some adjustment:

User: monad is hosting 32.R1f2 on his forum (with play-through lines on his domain, http://www.nickel.nohyphen.com/)

User: themadhair is hosting 32.Bd8

User: Artar1 is hosting 32.Bc5

User: mack is hosting 32.h4

User: jepflast is hosting 32.Rf7

User: Stevens is hosting 32.b3 and 32.b4

<mack> and <jepflast> haven't been active tonight, but it's generally OK to anticipate them. <stevens>'s forum is use-only. All others are active.

I'll either post everything again tomorrow, or just a reminder if the main page hasn't been too busy. Thanks and good luck...

Domdaniel: <Ohio> Thanks. I seem to have dropped you in it at a particularly tense moment - but that always seems to happen with change-overs. <jepflast> and <mack> signed in after my previous post, so everyone is now active. I've posted the list again on p.848.

btw, as well as <stevens>, twinlark also said that <you vs yourself> had offered his forum for (passive) use. But ideally an active forumperson is best - Artar1's enthusiasm is refreshing. I should have taken up his forum offer earlier.

It's now 14:00 here, making it 08:00 or 0900 your time... [click]. Over to you. And good luck. You may find the ghost of <twinlurk> whispering in your ear from time to time, but you know better'n me how to deal with it.

I'll adjust my forum header to point folk here, but I'll also go on listing the forums there too. Thanks again.

Dec-05-06  jepflast: <Ohio> 32. Rf7 summary:

This move results in an immediate rook trade that allows Black to totally disarm the position. 32...Rf8 33. Rxf8 Bxf8 34. Rc1 Re7 is nearly inevitable, then 35. Bd8 Rf7, for example, shows nothing promising for White, not even a hastening to the endgame. The bishop is activated, but the queen is now tied to defense instead. Black's king is completely safe. In conclusion, any amount of votes is too many for 32. Rf7.

Dec-05-06  monad: Hiya Ohio,

Impressive co-ordinating. I reckon You can ask for a raise ;-)

Would it be OK for me to work on
Bd8 Re2 Rf7 Re6 <R1f3> ?

OhioChessFan: Okay <Monad> for now let's advertise it as 32...Re2
Dec-05-06  themadhair: <OhioChessFan> Good work on the forum coordinator.

I didn't get your message until about a half hour ago - only get back from work at that time. I'll have a summary prepared earlier for you post in future.

Dec-05-06  monad: <Ohio>
Sorry aboout missing the summary request. I don't think much was missed however ;-(

Will try and do better next time.

Can you include the web address, even though I won't have a new game ready till tomorrow morning.

Ta.

  OhioChessFan: Done, madhair.
Dec-05-06  monad: Hiya Ohio,

Slight misunderstanding. I don't intend to 'host' as such. So someone else needs to coordinate the Re2 research as a whole.

I just wanted to work on the R1f3 line and enlisted Boomie's cooperation for that. I wanted to try to work as a pair and then, once we have thrashed out a line, offer it for discussion on the relevant forum.

So mine will remain more or less a 'read only' forum for others who are interested. It seemed to me that Boomie was a little disillusioned with the way things were arrranged, and I reckon a sparring duo might work as a technique.

I'll get back to you once we get going.

OhioChessFan: Monad, okay, I'll correct that. You are looking then specifically at that 4 ply sequence?
Dec-05-06
Premium Chessgames Member
OhioChessFan: I am going to assign some moves. Pending any objection, Artar has Re6
Mack has Re2
jepflast has Qc4
themadhair has Rc2

Does anyone think we need to review Re8? And someone suggested Qb7 on the main page.

Dec-05-06  jepflast: The only playable moves for Black are Re6, Re2, and Rc2. But I'll put up a summary of the Qc4 line on my forum.
Dec-05-06  mack: 32...Re2 is fine, cheers.

Domdaniel: See? You get responses from people who aren't even *talking* to me - and rational messages from those who are ever ready to draw me into obscure digressions. Nice job on the cat-herding front, though.

And there really *was* something funny going on server-wise earlier today. Getting into CG was like wading thru glue.

Keep up the good work. I'm trying to keep up with developments and will contribute something when I can.

OhioChessFan: I guess we have differing views of what is rational. I have been surprised how much time all this is taking. A lot of it is just time spent thinking about what's going on. And hoping I'm not missing some important move GMAN might play. Oy vey, I now realize how disconcerting it must have been to have a move played that hadn't been in a forum.
