<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Dec-05-12  morfishine: Good afternoon <OhioChessFan>! Again you've been burdened with "All other Moves" for the Black Side. I'll bet you a nickel that Black plays an "other" move than whats been assigned, namely <29...Qf8>. All others (Nf8/Rf8/Bc7/Qe7) are so bad, I just can't imagine him playing.

But its not just <29...Qf8> that gives Black hope, but an immediate <30...c5> that offer a chance. This is the critical position after <28.Nf1 Rf7 29.Rfh3 Qf8 30.Ng3 c5>

If White takes the c-pawn:
(1) 30.bxc5 Bc7 32.Nh5 Bxe5 33.dxe5 Nxe5

click for larger view

Black threatens 34...Nxd3, 34...Nxg4 & 34...Qxc5

If White ignores the c-pawn
(2) 30.Nh5 cxb4 31.Nxg7 Qxg7 32.Rxh6 Rc8 33.Rg6 Rxc3 34.Rxg7+ Rxg7 35.Qd1 Bxa5

click for larger view

These are just some examples that show we must move with extreme caution

Dec-05-12  morfishine: Or, if White ignores the c-pawn, black can capture the d-pawn: <31...cxd4> 32.Nxg7 Bg5 33.Nxe6 Nxe5 34.Nxf8 Nxd3 35.Rxd3 Raxf8>

click for larger view

This doesn't look quite as strong as capturing the b-pawn, also, Move-order may be sloppy, but at the least, we want to avoid this if we can

Dec-05-12  stunningmove: <morph> you can be counted on to find these unusual lines. Yes Qf8 in combination with <c5> may be a problem. White has some options I may have time to look at this evening, Qg6, f5 in addition to what you've worked on.
Dec-05-12  stunningmove: <morph> don't forget black may reverse the move order as well, 29...c5 then 30...Qf8. I don't have a chess set handy but that is possible.
Dec-05-12  morfishine: <stunningmove> Thanks for looking. I believe <29...Qf8> needs to be played first, primarily to disguise <30...c5>, but also to cover <g7>

If 29...Qf8 <30.Qg6> then 30...Bg5...but even after 30.Ng3 <30...Bg5> still works...in the short term :)

Dec-05-12  tbentley: tbentley: 29...Qf8 30. Ng3 c5 31. Qg6 and apparently black's best is to sacrifice the exchange, which doesn't end his troubles.

Rybkav2.3.2a.mp.x64:

1) 31...Rxf4 32. Bxf4 Qxf4 33. Qxe6+ Qf7 34. Qc6 Qf3+ 35. Kg1 Ra7 36. Ne2 Qf7 37. Rf2 Qe8 38. bxc5 (+4.14, 18 ply)

2) 31...Rf6 32. exf6 Qxf6 33. Qe8+ Nf8 34. Nh5 Qf7 35. Qxf7+ Kxf7 36. dxc5 Nd7 37. Re2 g6 38. Ng3 (+4.79, 17 ply)

3) 31...Nxe5 32. dxe5 Rxf4 33. Bxf4 Qxf4 34. Qxg7+ Kxg7 35. Nh5+ Kf7 36. Nxf4 Bg5 37. bxc5 Rc8 38. Rf3 (+4.81, 17 ply)

Dec-05-12  tbentley: 29...Qf8 30. Qg6 Bg5 31. Qxg5 looks good.
Dec-05-12  morfishine: Thanks <tbentley> I completely overlooked <31.Qxg5>...silly of me
Dec-05-12  DcGentle: Well, I guess <tbentley> is right, White will have no problems. I'll show a line. :-)
Dec-05-12  morfishine: Hey <OCF> Sorry to bother you with all this nonsense, <Qg6> is just too stong

Now, I really wonder why he doesn't resign

The best for Black that I can get out of <29...Qf8> is 30.Ng3 g5 31.Rxh6 Qg7 32.Rg6 Nf8 33.Rxg7 Rxg7>

PawnSac: < But, thats no blockade >

nope, white just continues with f5! and blacks game is as miserable as ever.

Dec-05-12  morfishine: <stunningmove> Yep, its all over for Black...there's just no way out...I should probably take a couple days off away from chess...I'm starting to see double...If VA can find a way out, it will be truly amazing...
Dec-05-12  morfishine: <stunningmove> & <OhioCHessFan> I did find something amusing in that continuation <29...Qf8>...I think you might like it: <28.Nf1 Rf7 29.Rfh3 Qf8 30.Ng3 g5 31.Rxh6 Qg7 32.Rg6 gxf4 33.Rxg7+ Rxg7 34.Bxf4 Nf8 35.Qf3 Be7 36.Nh5 Rf7 37.Qg3 Ng6 38.Rf2 Bh4>

Its sort of delightful, in its own macabre way

Dec-07-12  MarkFinan: OCF...I just want to apologize for a comment i directed at you yesterday on the So page... I misread your post to be defending the pinoys and their delusions as I was angry with Jim Bartle for singling me out as the ONLY person who laughed at,mocked, Wesley So's recent performances, when that's obviously not true... Anyway I don't wish to get into a rant about all that in your forum so i'd just like to apologize for my post addressing you...

<Mark> no problem, those people would drive Mother Teresa to drink.

<chancho> I never met any of the Ohio Players, but they were really accessible, and a lot of my friends met them.

<optimal> I don't think Black will play that line, but we should be thorough and ready for any moves. Thanks for the analysis.

Dec-11-12  optimal play: Hi <OCF> I've just enjoyed your latest song parody <Trollin' on the So Page> and must conclude that your work is as good as the classic MAD Magazine "Sing Along With MAD" a vintage piece of musical satire re-printed in paperback for many years.

<"Sing Along With Mad," a collection of parody lyrics which the magazine said could be "sung to the tune of" many popular songs.">
