<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Dec-05-16  diceman: <YouRang: <By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”> - John 13:35

Does anyone else ever feel depressed that even a group of professing Christians speak with such resentment toward each other? How are we different from the world?>

At least no one is cutting heads off.

Dec-05-16  Big Pawn: Respect is earned, not given freely. I have no resentment toward anyone <yourang>, I just speak plainly and directly so as to save us all some time and to be as genuine as possible. People aren't used to direct speak anymore. This is how we are different from the world. The world cares about sugarcoating everything to spare everyone's feelings and all that.

There is nothing wrong with being direct and plain spoken.

Christianity is not about being "nice".

Dec-05-16  YouRang: <By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you at least don't cut each other's heads off”>

- John 13:35 (as interpreted by <diceman>)

Dec-05-16  YouRang: <Big Pawn: Respect is earned, not given freely.>

My comment wasn't about respect, but love. Jesus had no reason to respect any of us, but (thankfully) his love was not contingent upon respect.

<This is how we are different from the world. The world cares about sugarcoating everything to spare everyone's feelings and all that.

There is nothing wrong with being direct and plain spoken.

Christianity is not about being "nice".>

By your reckoning, the ungodly world is all concerned about treating each other kindly, while we godly Christians needn't bother with such "restraints". To me, this is backwards.

<Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.> - Eph 4:32

<Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.> - Eph 4:2

<But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.> - Gal 5:22

<And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness.> - 2 Tim 2:24-25

<Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse> - Rom 12:14

~~~~
Anyway, I already regret bringing this up. I've done so before and it always ends up being met with scorn.
But the scriptures teach that humbleness and love are the most important attributes of the Christian, and yet how easily they are abandoned by many people who profess Christ.
Am I not understanding the scriptures correctly?
Dec-05-16  YouRang: Having gone further back to review some of the comments made, I should say that I appreciate <OhioChessFan>'s comments (may be called a friendly rebuke) concerning the overly harsh post from <Sarfati> (in his forum).
It may be the first time I can recall agreeing with <OCF> on a question of how a Christian should treat others. ;-)
Dec-05-16  optimal play: <YouRang> One of those NT verses in particular caught my attention...
"And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness."
- 2 Tim 2:24-25
Do you think Dr Sarfati's responses met the above criteria?
Dec-05-16  YouRang: <optimal play> I was referring to the post in his forum (that <OCF> responded to in this forum), which IMO had unwarranted harshness.
I don't particularly want to get into the business of judging posts for meeting Biblical criteria, because it would be pointless and unwelcome anyway. Besides, it's really a matter of honestly evaluating our own motives against what the scriptures say about our motives.
All of us at times succumb to anger, pride, and impatience. We all need to forgive and be forgiven.
~~~~

I suppose my first post in this forum today just reflects my general sadness over the Christian witness in the world, both in how we converse with unbelievers and even among ourselves.

Perhaps because I am a former atheist myself, I am able to better see Christianity from an "outsider's" perspective. Outsiders tend to evaluate a faith based on the conduct of its adherents. If I were still an atheist, I certainly wouldn't be compelled toward the Christian faith based on most of the things said by professing Christians in online discussion forums.

Dec-06-16  Colonel Mortimer: <YouRang: <optimal play> I was referring to the post in his forum (that <OCF> responded to in this forum), which IMO had unwarranted harshness.

Your fairness and objectivity is commendable.

  Jonathan Sarfati: <optimal play:> Of course they do. Note that Big Pawn is the only one who has resorted to abusive ad hominem.
Dec-06-16  Big Pawn: Ad hominem is when you direct an attack toward a person rather than the argument.

We have no argument therefore there is no ad hominem. What I did was mock you so you could see how you looked to me.

If you are too sensitive for that, then just tell me <big pawn, I'm too sensitive> and I'll be extra careful with you.

I wasn't abusive either. I was just plain, direct and truthful. You acted like a pompous buffoon and I said so.

Where's the abuse in that?

Don't you think you should just let it go now? Everyone agrees that you were unnecessarily harsh, so I was harsh to you. Now that you see this, you should correct yourself, improve yourself and move on with life.

Dec-06-16  Colonel Mortimer: I'm surprised that <big pawn> is given such a wide berth to scurrilously abuse people on a forum that is nominally principled and Christian.
Dec-06-16  Big Pawn: <mort>, You are not going to succeed in creating in causing strife between me and the others. You're an anti Christian, God mocking fool and you fool only yourself.

As Jesus said to Peter, "Get thee behind me, Satan!"

That's the abusive ad hominem, and that's what you did. I did not. So look in the mirror before you whinge at my responses.

  OhioChessFan: **Let the Picking Begin**

Welcome to the London Chess Classic 2016 Moves Prediction Contest. This contest involves picking a game result (1-0 1/2 or 0-1) and the number of moves in the game. As an example, if in the first round game you think Aronian with White will defeat Adams in 40 moves, your entry would say:

Aronian-Adams 1-0 40

While it is a bit more complicated than the game prediction contest hosted by <GoldenExecutive> it isn't <that> much more complicated. I think my profile as written by <chessmoron> does a pretty good job explaining how things work.

A few odds and ends. Scoring mistakes occasionally happen. Let <chessmoron> know, on this forum. Quickly. It can seem intimidating to new players, but no worries. Feel free to ask questions. I will point out the scoring system (in my profile) is heavily weighted toward being under and not over, the actual number of moves.

Dec-06-16  WinKing: Round 1 Friday 9 Dec:

Aronian-Adams 1/2 37
Nakamura-So 1/2 37
Vachier-Lagrave-Giri 1/2 37
Caruana-Anand 1/2 37
Kramnik-Topalov 1/2 37

Dec-06-16  Big Pawn: <Jonathan Sarfati: <Big Pawn:> "Ad hominem is when you direct an attack toward a person rather than the argument." That's the abusive ad hominem, and that's what you did. I did not.>

And you're a DR?

We had no argument up for discussion. What I did was just mock you.

If I had mocked you in an effort to derail your argument (there wasn't one) then it would qualify as ad hominem.

You're just guilty of magniloquence.

See, if you say the earth is 6000 years old and I say, in response to that, "You're just an idiot and everyone knows it", then that would be ad hominem.

If we have no topic for debate and I'm just rubbed the wrong way by your arrogance and mock you, it's just garden variety mockery.

And you write books?
