<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

OhioChessFan: One voter's explanation: <All of that went into why I felt duty-bound to vote for the richly deserving seniors, who most likely won’t ever have a hearing again as more senior candidates enter the pool and fresh cases get made for others. Meanwhile, Belichick is inevitable

OhioChessFan: Love all the music posted here. A few observations about some of it...I recall the Monday in high school after Devo performed on SNL. It was all anybody talked about. Fleetwood Mac had some early bluesy music that smoked but was essentially forgotten. Reminds me of early Steve ...

OhioChessFan: White has the Bishop pair but no real targets. Black has an outside passer with no real prospects, and a more secure King. Pretty even.

   Jan-26-26 Kasparov vs C Oblitas, 1993

OhioChessFan: Pretty good pun. Hard to believe Kaspy performed so well in a clock simul against such strong competition. IIRC, he set an upper ELO limit of 2000 in most simuls. I would love to know if he also missed Qa4. I'm guessing yes.

Penguincw: chess24 and <cg> both reporting that Giri - Abdusattorov was drawn in 43 moves, not 44.

Also, <OhioChessFan> had Giri - Abdusattorov 1/2-1/2 in 44, affecting some scoring.

Feb-25-23  chessmoron: <NEXT PREDICTION CONTEST>

The World Championship MATCH of <Nepo vs Ding> in April.

Feb-25-23
Premium Chessgames Member
  OhioChessFan: ** Final Recap **

<lostemperor> wore his Pikachu costume well as he picked up 3 Golds! <Pengo> held on for one Gold and 2 Silvers. Other medalists were <cm> with 2 Silvers, <juan> with a Silver and 2 Bronze, <OCF> with a Silver, and <Messiah> with 2 Bronze.

In other news, the tournament directors discussed banning <Messiah> from next year's tournament, as he stood at the door screaming at anyone who tried to enter the playing arena after the start of the last round. <lostemperor> is trying to get <chessmoron> to start a new Ranker called "Most Upset with a Contestant", or something like that. It involves deviant behavior or something. Everyone was pretty much afraid to ask about it. Meanwhile, <juan31> stood outside the playing arena, grabbing anyone who'd listen to him, and explaining his new chess philosophy that a draw + a draw + a draw = a draw. Apparently that was too deep for most people, as they mostly just stared at him like he's crazy.

And so closes another bizarre Moves Prediction Contest. Maybe we'll have a contest for the WCC. Hoping <chessmoron> runs one.
