The Caissars: Thank you for participating in the 2019 Caissars! We apologize for the very delayed start, which probably contributed to the difficulty of selecting deserving candidates, and will do our best to run the Caissars at the beginning of January in the future. <And now here are ...

Jan-10-17  zanzibar: As assumed:

<The nomination process will be entirely eliminated. <Every person gets one vote, and the one with the most votes wins>. For this reason we will call players/members/games/etc. in contention "candidates" and not "nominees."<<>>>

Yeah I don't like it in comparison with the old system, and think I'll abstain for the most part.

But don't let my curmudgeon attitude spoil the fun, as I'm sure it won't.

<puns> As an addendum to the list above, quite a few people unofficially voted for Best/Worst Pun in 2005; Yanofsky vs J Therien, 1947 ("I concede clearly now; Therien is gone.") had the most supporters, but was not officially declared a Caissar winner.

E Torre vs Tarjan, 1983 ("Me Tarjan, Eugene!") received some support despite not being a 2005 pun; it would probably have won in 2004 if the category had existed then (though it was originally used in 2003 and reused in 2004). Chiburdanidze vs Panno, 1992 ("I Wish I was an Oscar-Maia Winner") is another classic 2004 pun.

OhioChessFan: When we get to Move of the Year, should the link point to before or after the move is made?
Jan-11-17

chessgames.com: Make it like a puzzle: show the position right before the move is made, so the user can see position and then the move played.
Jan-11-17  valiant: Did the admins choose the nominees this year? I don't like the new format ... The fun is fading (

WannaBe: <valiant> No, users still gets to submit. Just that nomination now counts as one vote, right from the start.
Jan-11-17  valiant: <WannaBe> Thanks!

Penguincw: BTW, if I may, I'd like to make a small suggestion: under each category, you could include a small description (based on what is up there in the profile), so voters know what to keep in mind, when voting. :)
Jan-11-17  zanzibar: <valiant> agreed.
Jan-12-17  Gregor Samsa Mendel: Gosh, thanks for nominating one of my posts, folks.

HeMateMe: I voted for each of the seven catagories but there is no notice (after clicking the green box at the end) that you are finished or "votes counted," anything like that. Do I need to do more than just check the seven boxes?

SwitchingQuylthulg: <HeMateMe> You should be able to see your current votes if you return to the Caissars Voting Page. For example, suppose you voted <YouRang> for Best Avatar; the link User: YouRang, with <YouRang>'s avatar next to it, should appear immediately above the list of Best Avatar candidates.

If you can't see anything there except empty fields for URLs and comments, your votes were not counted properly.

HeMateMe: got it, thank you Switch.
Jan-12-17  technical draw: Thanks for that list <Golden Executive>. Ahem, I have the most Caissars with 10. I finally beat Switchy at something!
Jan-12-17  technical draw: Don't misunderstand my comment above. I just tell jokes but SwitchingQuylthug is a true master of problem solving. His uncanny ability to solve the Christmas puzzles leaves me in awe. Also he's always there on the leaderboard in the Chessbookie game. How does he do it? Probably true genius. Happy New Year Switchy. And good health.
Jan-12-17  TheFocus: How were the nominees chosen?
Jan-13-17  zanzibar: <Focus> by anyone voting just once. There's no nomination phase this year.

I asked the same, and <switch> pointed me here:

  The Caissars: How's everybody doing?

We updated the software so that it shows the total number of valid votes for each category, to give you some kind of idea of how many people are participating.

Remember, you can change your vote at any time up to (approx.) midnight Sunday morning. Everybody with a CG account can vote, so have at it!

  SwitchingQuylthulg: <technical draw> Thanks, and happy 2017!

I believe you're also the all-time leader in most voters bribed with promises of $20; which I'm sure is completely unrelated to your lead in the other category.

Jan-13-17  N0B0DY: <Putin> is voting for you!
Jan-13-17  zanzibar: <Putin> is pulling... and passionately pnowning polling.
