 | | HeMateMe: <I'm not sure if that's feasible, but if it is, I think it would be an excellent get-out-the-vote strategy.> It is feasible. I remember several years ago I logged on and a pop up informing me of something immediately took up the whole screen, the moment I logged on. Perhaps CG doesn't do this because they feel it would irritate people who would experience such pop up every time they logged on? |

< The move that finished the 2016 World Championship><The move that finished the 2016 World Championship> Does that suggest someone voted twice, or the system recorded a vote twice, or is it just some strange coincidence?> Most likely one voter simply copied a previous voter's comment; which presumably was why two of the comments about <Phony Benoni>'s avatar were <makes me smile whenever I see it. :-)> Of course, it can't hurt for the admins to check that nothing weird has happened. A sockmaster using the same comment twice would be either really stupid or really taking refuge in audacity :) |

<zanzibar: <<td> ... Hilary Clinton ...>Sure she never loses? Looks like she lost a "l" right from the get-go.> This is where you're confused. You're talking about failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. <TD> is referring to his attorney, Hilary Clinton, who never loses. (Now, if she *did* lose an "l," she would become Hiary Clinton, and would have to retire on account of all the people thinking her first name was Hairy.) ∞ |

Nor can you plant blue links without voting, since this year a nomination is a vote. In any case, as long as you only used your regular account and not any sock accounts, there shouldn't be any risk of your votes or comments being counted multiple times; you can click "Submit vote(s)" as many times as you want, and the software will only remember your most recent vote and comment in each category. |
|
| Jan-17-17 | | whiteshark: There's a need for some clarification.
While the nominating and voting take place at the same time now nomination and voting should be two separate processes. I thought that
- the fields <Your vote (URL)> and <Comments> belong to the nomination 'only'. - double nominations are allowed
while the voting consists of
- setting a tick mark aside one of the candidates and - then click "Submit vote(s)"
<You can't submit a comment about any candidate unless you're voting for that candidate> I just did it in the nomination process without voting. As said I didn't make any hook in a check box and I didn't click "Submit vote(s)" <ceegee> could you please clarify the discrepancies and just in case I accidently voted, could you please remove them. |

 | | chessgames.com: <whiteshark> — Perhaps the source of confusion here is that there is no longer any nomination process. Every member gets one vote, period. The checkbox is an easy way to vote for something that's already on the list without needing to figure out what the URL is. Clicking a checkbox is the exact same action as typing in the URL. About comments, if you want to attach a comment to your vote, you are permitted. It's possible to use the comment feature in conjunction with the checkbox feature. |

 | | WannaBe: I am probably one of the few people who still use Chess Viewer Deluxe II (Java), the "Move of the Year" doesn't work, so I have to read the URL and see which move. Just a very minor gripe from the minority of member(s) who still use Java here. =)) |

 | | HeMateMe: to encourage voting CG should do something like put some rotating, blinking lights on the statute on the home page, to draw eyes to it. There are so many things on the front page that a lot of people who play chess don't even notice it or know what the Caissars are. |

 | | The Caissars: The 2016 Caissars are over. Before I divulge the winners let me say that the new software, albeit a bit clunky, is an improvement that adds to the fun of the whole affair. Next year we'll talk about adding creative new categories and do all voting at the same time. We spit it up into two phases this year out of fear that the software might be totally bonkers. So between now and next January we can discuss ideas to make this process more fun and streamlined. There's no better forum to use for such talk as this one. ♕ ♕ ♕
That aside, the envelope please...
As seen from Caissars Voting Page page now with tallies visible, the winner of <BEST GAME COLLECTION> by a landslide is Game Collection: That's strange. <MOST INFORMED> User: SwitchingQuylthulg, and keypusher deserves credit although trailing by several votes. <BEST HISTORIAN> received a lot of interest and in the end the winner was User: Stonehenge who edged out zanzibar by a solitary vote. The <PLAYER OF THE YEAR> — the most voted upon category — is a split this year, with 15 votes apiece for both Magnus Carlsen and Wesley So, both of whom were no doubt highlights of the year. The <MOVE OF THE YEAR> by nearly unanimous agreement was the pretty 50.♕h6!! shot ending the WCC from Carlsen vs Karjakin, 2016 allowing Carlsen to retain the title. The <GAME OF THE YEAR> is Caruana vs Nakamura, 2016 from the London Chess Classic (2016). It's rare to see a true positional queen sacrifice flow so easily. It's been great fun doing the Caissars this year, and we look forward to doing it again January 2018.
Now excuse me, I'm going to go tweet some of the winners :) |

 | | The Caissars: Oh, and how could I forget? The <BEST/WORST PUN OFTHE YEAR> goes to "Pins Alburt in a Kann" from Alburt vs M Ruderfer, 1970. We don't recall who suggested the pun, but it's truly inspired. |

 | | OhioChessFan: Can you add the first half winners to the link that takes you to the results? |
|
Jan-22-17
 | | OhioChessFan: The first half categories were all fine and I'd like to see them come back. The second half, I am not crazy about Games Collection, and really dislike Player of the Year. A general comment: With all the many talented people around here, what exactly is the point in voting for a person in a category they've already won? Most of the multi-winners are deserving, but I really don't get it. |
