 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: Congratulations to the winners, well done runners-up, and thanks to everybody who voted! <OhioChessFan> While the awards are supposed to be fun and not the most serious thing in the world, people still value and appreciate them; and the winners appreciate feeling the voters thought they were the most deserving candidate. If the winner is only the most deserving candidate apart from that other guy and that other other guy who had won before, the award is devalued. The categories are "best X" or "most X", not "second-best X" or "best X apart from <Domdaniel>'s"; and I for one think they should stay that way.
Not because I hope to win Most Informed every year ad infinitum; that streak's likely to end some year soon anyway if I don't stop spending less and less time on Chessgames. But I think the next winners should have the satisfaction of winning the vote without any doubts or reservations, knowing the voters chose them ahead of every previous winner in their category. Speaking of which...
<The Caissars: <MOST INFORMED> User: SwitchingQuylthulg, and keypusher deserves credit although trailing by several votes.> Don't forget <Sally Simpson> - he tied with <keypusher> and also deserves credit :) |

 | | Penguincw: Congrats to all the winners, thanks for the new and improved format <cg>. I think the only suggestion I would make is next to each category, you include a short description of that category, so voters will keep in mind what to look for. Well, see you all next year. |

 | | WannaBe: Congratulations to all the winners. Another fun-filled 2017 will surely make voting more exciting in 2018. Thank you for running the Caissar Awards, CG.

 | | WannaBe: Personal Opinion:
Caissar Award and multiple-nomination and award winners... If, if, we are to say/compare the categories to, oh, heck, Golden Glove in MLB, as one of the many, many awards that MLB gives away every year. Repeat winner at a specific base/outfield are common. Heck, there's been multiple MVPs, sometimes back-to-back (but nothing like what <TD> and his run). If you look at the NFL MVP, P. Manning have won it 5 times, (That's still half of what <TD> have, so take that Peyton!!) There are so many deserving members here, and I'll speak from the point of view of Historian and/or Most Informed, my goodness, there's probably not a single day that goes by that I'm learning something new. So, I have one vote on the best Historian, or best Informed, and I have to decide between members <A>, <B>, <C>, <D>, and possibly <E>. But <D> posts on that political forum and I disagree with <D>'s opinion. So, out goes <D>. No, I am kidding... =)) By limiting one member, one vote, make the counting easier (computer or by-hand), but that really, really put the onus on the members of CG that decided to vote. And who may only be here 2 hours a week. This is not like voting for MLB/NBA/NFL/NHL MVP where I can go online and get the stats for that season, or even Academy Award where DVDs of the movies up for consideration are in my mail-box. Members who (decides) to vote, (hopefully) made an effort, to decide which pun was the absolute worst, which game collection was truly the best. (What is the qualification for that category?? Can I gather up a bunch of games that have A00 openings and then give it a funny name?) (<Phony Benoni>, your winning collection this year was the best, I hastily played through 3 or 4 of the games with the most interesting titles, and they are the best!!) The game where black had 4 pawns stacked 2x2 right in the center was hilarious. Don't think anyone will every see another position like that again. Plus your intro had me laughing so hard... Congrats to the Funniest, too. Waaaaaaaaay too long over-due. Anyway, I'm gonna stop rambling here, Caissar is (supposed) to be fun, and let's keep it fun. If I want to divide by vote into 10 pieces, so be it. Or let what <OhioChessFan> did once, fractional vote such that it ended up in tie due to repeating decimal 9s. Peace, Out. =)) |

<puns> As an addendum to the list above, quite a few people unofficially voted for Best/Worst Pun in 2005; Yanofsky vs J Therien, 1947 ("I concede clearly now; Therien is gone.") had the most supporters, but was not officially declared a Caissar winner. E Torre vs Tarjan, 1983 ("Me Tarjan, Eugene!") received some support despite not being a 2005 pun; it would probably have won in 2004 if the category had existed then (though it was originally used in 2003 and reused in 2004). Chiburdanidze vs Panno, 1992 ("I Wish I was an Oscar-Maia Winner") is another classic 2004 pun. |

 | | WannaBe: Yanofsky vs J Therien, 1947 That pun was first used in Nov. 11 2005. If you look at the first page of posts, moi was the first to kibit'z on the game. I would have to go back to the "historical archives" and see why it was not officially declared a winner. Let y'all know later of my findings. Historical research, I love it! =)) |

This is a new feature that was introduced a few months ago. -------------------
<Best Pun> In 2005 the Caissars were still organized by <nikolaas> and held in December rather than January. Best Game of the Day Pun hadn't been a category in 2004 and originally wasn't supposed to be a category in 2005 either; but <nikolaas> noted on December 6, 2005 (<Kibitzer's Café (kibitz #43662)>) that there was popular interest in such a category, and on December 18 (<Kibitzer's Café (kibitz #45856)>) he announced that there would be an official Caissar for the best Game of the Day pun. He opened the Best Pun vote on December 19 (<Kibitzer's Café (kibitz #46039)>), but never posted a list of nominees (like he'd done for every other category) and never announced an official winner. As noted, the would-have-been winner was "I concede clearly now; Therien is gone." Very few users actually voted on December 19, 2005; far more people voiced their opinions on December 18 (which <nikolaas> had apparently intended to be a day of nominations) than on the actual voting day, and some users who had nominated or unofficially voted for a Best Pun earlier in December didn't show up to revote on either of those days. It's possible that this very high level of confusion about when the Best Pun vote was actually supposed to happen (which undoubtedly resulted from the new category being added mid-process) was why <nikolaas> didn't announce an official winner; though "I concede clearly now; Therien is gone." had the most support at every stage and would have topped the results no matter which votes were considered valid. <WannaBe> took over from <nikolaas> in 2006 and made Best/Worst Pun a regular category. |

From now on, we need to start requiring voter ID from all Caissars participants. I mean, this is ridiculous. Fifty-three people voted, and of those, we have so far been able to confirm that zero of them are alive. That's a potential fraud rate of at least 100% (not forgetting that at least 50 of our most active posters in recent years have been <tolengoy>). . Twitter Summary: <Widespread voter fraud.
