Aug-10-10 | | MrMelad: <10th best (active) players in the world at each age give a different picture> alex, I suspected so, improving from 2000 to 2100 is within the reach of anybody at any age, but improving from 2700 to 2800 is very rare and probably much harder. However, 25 sounds like a very young age for a career high, I'd suspect 35 is a more logical peak for the top player... |

Sep-24-10 | | madlydeeply: Hey Alex i just read in a book called "the gift" that the seven year bankruptcy law (all debts forgiven after seven years....is that the law in Deutschland?) is actually Mosaic law! Which means usurous (double digit) interest rates have been cannibalizing societies for four thousand years! ( if you consider Moses dating from 2000 BC switching from age of taurus to age of aries...ram for bull etc...) what does this have to do with peace on earth? Well in USA at any rate every person is in debt making us hyper productive with three jobs and not giving a damn about the evil policies the gov't is up to...like the "DRONE PROGRAM" in Afghanistan... So you don't think human's are born into conflict? I suppose i don't either which is why i'm an anarchist.... later |

 | | alexmagnus: <frogbert> There is one problem regarding TPRs and matches. It illustrates at best in case of a drawn match: the match is drawn but the TPRs are different (opponent's rating for both), though it's reasonable to assume that both players played at the same level. And if the rating difference is sufficiently big, then a winner of the match may end up with a lower TPR than the loser.... That's problematic to say the least... Normally a TPR shouldn't depend on player's own rating, but I think in case of matches it is inevitable - you have to take not the opponent's rating but the average of both ratings as the "base" for the calculation. |
|
Oct-05-10 | | slomarko: <alexmagnus> the highest rated active players by birthyear list is interesting but what should you really do is to pick 10 best rated players for which birthyear, calculate their average rating and then put it on a graph. it might give as an indication when exactly the chessplayers are in their prime. |
|
Oct-05-10
 | | alexmagnus: <slo> I did it once not with the average both with 10-highest rated players. And another time with the 100-highest rated players in Germany. Funnily, the results were completely different: while the world "#10 for birthyear" peaked at 25, the German "#100 for birthyear" peaked at 41. Actually I have a long-term bet running that the world #10 peak will not get past 1990 till 2030. |
