 | | chessgames.com: <OCF> Fair questions. Let me try to answer. <1. What has been your most pleasant surprise in running Chessgames.com?> A number of things which spontaneously and unexpectedly sprouted out of the infrastructure without any planning on my part. I could name 100 things but just for example, ChessBookForum chessforum, Phoni's work with Game Collection: Puzzle of the Day 2016 etc., the Caissars, Beer, tpstar's games of each year, even Louis Stumpers. I could go on and on, but anytime something sprouts out as if by nature, I find it wonderful. <2. What has been your most unpleasant surprise?> I find it disappointing that people can't simply get along better. Of course some personalities will clash; but the nature of some of the chaos is unpleasantly surprising. I say this not with particular people in mind, but forums like the Wesley So page and the Kenneth Rogoff page go far beyond what I would have expected. |

 | | chessgames.com: <UNF> Rest assured that nothing that you are experiencing is due to some grudge against you personally. The software is singling you out by it's own logic, however your case proves that it may be in need of improvement. I will investigate your case and if necessary contact you by email. |

<morfishine: its basically impossible to isolate or insulate or prevent idiots from posting attacks unfortunately....> My good <morf> Well, yes and no. Chess.com does it, but they use an iron fist and they have tons of paid and volunteer moderators who patrol every inch of the site. So there's no such thing as a chess.com "flame war," but free speech is curtailed, sometimes with unfortunate, and comical, results. I remember vividly several years ago I happened upon a chess.com thread discussing the fact that the word "breast" had been disabled by the autocensor. This arose, if memory serves, during a conversation about cooking chicken. I KID YOU NOT. |

| Jul-01-17 | | thegoodanarchist: <I almost forgot to mention, perhaps you did not know this but on your Preferences Page there is an option (that only appears for premium members) that reads <Do not display sidebar advertisements.>> There is also an option to display 100 games per page, instead of 25. Why not just have a two-digit field, where people can enter a number from 10 to 99, of the number of games they want displayed? |
