kingscrusher: BTW the crosstable on Chessgames.com could have all the results as clickable game links - so making it quite easy to see all the games for a particular tournament - satisfying an "Explore this game's tournament" type link enquiry.

kingscrusher: Also note: The 1965-1966 US chess championship does not appear to be on the tournament index:

Tournament Index

I wonder if it is because it was played in December and spilled into the next year - is this an achilees heel of the tournament index?!

Indeed, one of the great features of xtabs on SCID (and ChessBase).

Good luck getting it on <CG> though.

But you are right that it seems the one you are looking for has not been made yet as the next US Championship seems to be US Championship (1966).
Jul-02-16  morfishine: The bio for Louis Stumpers really should be cleaned up. Even nothing would be better than what's there now: "Louis Stompers, American liberal jerk."

He was from the Netherlands, had a high rating of 2433 and his last name is spelled 'Stumpers' not 'Stompers'

Jul-02-16  whiteshark: The <Chengdu Grand Prix> is the 4th of five stages of the 2015-16 <FIDE Women's Grand Prix>. The 12-player all-play-all tournament takes place in the Wang Jiang Hotel in Chengdu, China from 2-14 July and features four of the world's top six female players. First prize is €10,000.

The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves, then 30 minutes to the end of the game with a 30-second increment from move one. No draws can be agreed before move 30. Grand Prix points are shared if players finish tied. Official website: <chengdu2016.fide.com>

Quite so, morf. I don't understand why someone would do that even if his player page has been hijacked for brain teasers and the like.

I deleted the fake bio sentence and changed his nationality. Some quick searching did not turn up much, so perhaps someone knows DOB, DOD or other relevant details.

chessgames.com: <Certainly cg.c needs to revoke editor rights for whoever is responsible.> I completely agree but an examination of who had been editing the file recently reveals only some of the finest most trusted editors. I don't even want to mention who, because I find it almost impossible to believe they are responsible.

I didn't go back further than 30 days, but I could. Is it possible that it's been that way for months without anybody mentioning it?

Tabanus: I did it, a week or two ago, on Jeremy Lin and Stumpers. Stumpers was so thoroughly discredited by the liberal jerks in the kibitzing (and the liberal CG allowing it) that I thought it was the best. All you need to do now it to delete the games, or create another page for them.

I considered doing the same for Rogoff. I won't do this again, but if you fire me as an editor, I can live with it.

Stonehenge: What this place needs are kibitzing areas for Music, Politics, Sports, Science and what have you. The Kibitzer's Café is also useless at the moment.

Tabanus: <Stonehenge> I agree. That could take away some of it from the player pages.

https://web.archive.org/web/2015101... is the latest Wayback Machine on Stumpers. But I think more was added later, not sure.

SwitchingQuylthulg: <MissScarlett> That's the stop word bug; <cg> uses a list of 544 stop words (presumably common words like "it", "about", "anything", "done", "haven't", "unfortunately", "rather" and "they") that can't be searched for anywhere on this site. About 200 other players in this database (including Emre Can and Martin Severin From) have stop words in their names.

No reason to ever spend more than a few seconds researching to add to the info here,

if any frustrated editors can alter the names and any other info and use the bios as fronts for their liberal expression of outrage

Jul-03-16  zanzibar: Oh no <Tab>... "that ain't the way to have fun"

Jul-03-16  zanzibar: <<stonehenge> The Kibitzer's Café is also useless at the moment.>

That one is a little dicey, for two reasons.

First, its actual purpose is for off-topic conversation.

Secondly, new users are sent there to ask general questions.

I could see the need for a moderated novice forum... but who would want to be a moderator?

Jul-03-16  zanzibar: For the other forums, I've suggested an "Editor's Picks" flag.

Editor's could vote up relevant posts.

Anyone could use the flag to filter the discussion.

Perhaps there would be a need for a user to flag a post to be considered an "Editor Pick".

Anyways, it's just a rough idea - but might allow the two systems (American Liberal Jerk and European Formal Pedantic) to coexist.

<Tabanus: I did it, a week or two ago, on Jeremy Lin and Stumpers. Stumpers was so thoroughly discredited by the liberal jerks in the kibitzing....>

Since the page is used for logic puzzles, not politics, this can only be a matter of personal animosity.

You should indeed be fired for succumbing to the temptation to punish people you don't like by perverting the biography of a player who has nothing to do with their posts.

---

That said, I've proposed before that dedicated pages for such topics as politics, logic puzzles, girls and beer be created as such, and all the posts pertaining to them switched to those pages.

It still isn't clear to me why <cg.com> hasn't done that.

Liberals? <Jeremy Lim> is about sports, mainly basketball, and <stumpers> is about puzzles.

Neither has any political content. And the page with lots of political content, <kenneth rogoff>, has roughly the same amount of liberal and conservative content.
