Thank you for bringing it to my attention. |

 | | Tabanus: <CG/Susan> CG at https://www.chessgames.com/perl/che... says <Classical games: Teimour Radjabov beat Wesley So 3 to 1, with 10 draws> But eight of those 14 games are Rapid, two are Blitz, and one is Armageddon. The correct would be (based on CG games): <Classical games: Teimour Radjabov beat Wesley So 1 to 0, with 2 draws> This error is because all the 184 games of Skilling Open (2020) are called Classical (and it says <This game is type: CLASSICAL.>), while in fact there were 174 Rapid games, 8 Blitz games and 2 Armageddon games. What to do? The database has thousands of games with wrong game type, and are you planning to have the remaining 9 events of Champions Chess Tour 2020-21 as "Classical" as well? I can see two options: 1) Remove game type from all games in the database. (The easy way out.) 2) Allow editiors to edit game type, both on the events as a whole and on individual games, before it's too late. |

 | | Telemus: Is it possible to do an update of the CG Zipfile Archive? That would be great. |
|
Dec-07-20
 | | stevemcd87: <Tabanus>, We've updated all of Skilling Open (2020) games to have a "rapid" gametype. We'll send an email to you shortly regarding your ability to update events as a whole and individual games. Thanks for all of your help. |

16-player tournament with a prelim phase that reduces the field to 8 players, followed by a series of knockout matches.

Maybe add the name of the winner <Wes So> on the Skilling notification on the home page. Why not add a volunteer editor to help keep the live chess notification box current? It's actually an important task eh it is the front page of the cg.com "newspaper." If you manage to list the winner of <Skilling> today, the front page news is only a week late. There appears to be more work than workers, which could be remedied by adding duties, as necessary, to selected volunteer editors. |

 | | kingscrusher: Hi Guys
I was wanting to see the sensatinal upset of Barton vs Conquest but couldn't find it here. It is in the published series of London classic FIDE open PGNs. I found it here: https://www.londonchessclassic.com/... It has an "all games in PGN"
Is it possible to add all the London classic FIDE Open games from the last few editions to the Chessgames.com database - they really have some fun upsets. Also one year Hammer won the FIDE open - some strong GMs have been playing in that fiercely contested FIDE open part of the London classic. Cheers, K |

<Tab> I checked some of the spellings in <Kingscrusher's> event and not all are the same as existing player pages at cg.com. In the case of modern era players who have FIDE cards, can't we import them all by FIDE number, and then change any variant spellings we have to the FIDE card spelling? And while we're at it, can we please get rid of all unnecessary patronymics- meaning virtually all of them? It's easy enough to list the patronymics in the player bios. It is ridiculous that we are the only database who inserts patronymics into the player names. It makes uploading the games horrific. It causes hundreds of duplicate player pages. Our player page spellings should conform as much as possible to the standard spellings employed by other databases. Getting rid of the patronymics would be a giant step towards this goal. |

 | | Olga Viewer: <jfq: In the case of modern era players who have FIDE cards, can't we import them all by FIDE number, and then change any variant spellings we have to the FIDE card spelling?> 100% agree.
<jfq: It is ridiculous that we are the only database who inserts patronymics into the player names> Also, 100% agree.
<jfq: Our player page spellings should conform as much as possible to the standard spellings employed by other databases.> Yup, 100% all the way through.
Good points. A redesign of the database would be great. On the topic of improving CG.com database, I proposed (at the time) a revolutionary system for representing the ChessGames data. The system utilized a design pattern called a "HyperGraph". This technique is old news now; But in the early days of social media, this pattern was developed to handle the enormous amounts of data and the connections between users and the content. I created this visual and discussion for Daniel and other CG council to read in July of 2017, <yes before I even built Olga PGN Viewer!>-
https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/... At the time I proposed the Hypergraph should represent all of <you, the users> and also all the past, present, and future player of any chessgame stored on CG. Why? Well at the time I was assuming CG would have Playzone which we worked on for over a year.
Anyhow, hindsight being 20-20 (not 2020 lol) - the move would have been a big win! I think at the time Daniel realized that changing the structure of the data meant the equivalent of simultaneous heart and brain surgery on CG. It is very likely that CG would have changed drastically had the Hypergraph been realized. <For anyone that has followed along this far, I present my new proposal for the benefits of a hypergraph for CG.> https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/... There are so many benefits I can't possibly list them all in the proposal (as I can't even imagine them all) but I hope this is interesting to someone. |

<Olga Viewer>
It's certainly of interest to me. I think a cg.com player zone capability could bring new life. =========
On "my" ideas I have to report that the "problem with patronymics" was pointed out to me by User: stonehenge . I recently heard about the idea of using FIDE cards ID numbers, and adopting the player name spelling on FIDE cards, from User: zanzibar |

In any case I uploaded R A Barton vs S Conquest, 2009 so that <kingscrusher> can see the game he mentioned. A fine game it is to be sure. <R.A. Barton> defeats an opponent more than 400 rating points higher!? I also noticed that all of <kingscrusher's> games from the event are already in our database!? Certainly several if not all. I bet we have many of the other games already published, so it might not be that huge a project to work on the list <tabanus> provided here: chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #34635) |

 | | kingscrusher: Hi <jessicafischerqueen:> - I think my games from that event was because I sent a PGN at some point. It was one of the main FIDE events I played in recent years. It would be great if other games from that open event were included. Many thanks, Tryfon |

| Dec-09-20 | | Serenity Sharpe: I’m worse at chess than everyone on here. No question. I’ve begun playing out the “great” games; really, physically playing them, and although I just started it’s blowing my mind how much I’m benefiting. It feels like speed-learning. • So... QUESTION: does anyone have any suggestions on which games to play first? Is there a particular order I might learn best from? Maybe someone has thought this out, perhaps for students, or does it really matter? Along with this, I would love any and all suggestions anyone has. Truly. And please be gentle with my novice self. I never had the opportunity to play until very recently and I fell immediately in love, and am just very anxious to learn all I can. ♞︎,
Thanks in advance! |

 | | Susan Freeman: <Serenity Sharpe> welcome. I love your attitude.
I am sure some of the more seasoned players will have some valuable suggestions.
I like to study the latest competitions myself.
I also admit I am a fan of Bobby Fischer
Because my son was.
Again, welcome to Chessgames. 😊 |

 | | Telemus: Three days ago I asked:
<Is it possible to do an update of the CG Zipfile Archive?>Unfortunately I didn't see an answer and neither were the files updated. The current content of the archive is from April and was created on a request from me (chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #32728) with an reply by <Annie K> chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #32731)). So it seems that not many people use the archive, but I work with it a lot and would therefore be very happy about an update. |
