Susan Freeman: Yes. Let's not distort user names.
Now, I referred to <Stonehendge> as <Stone>. Why? because it is shorter. a nick name of sorts. No offense intended.

Some people call me Sue instead of Susan.
Now, if someone changed Susan to swine, I would be offended. I guess I am off to baby sit rogoff once again. I deleted some of the posts here because of personal attacks. It is the pot calling the kettle black. Let's all try to rise above it all. please.

<Susan> kept her promise , i think.

Susan Freeman: Today is the death day of Daniel Freeman, my beloved son and founder of this sight. He said he never had any children because Chessgames was his child. Let’s us all take a moment of silence at 4pm today. I am lighting a candle. RIP, Sonny.

Did he have plans to start another chess-related website, other than CG?

Susan Freeman: CG is quite enough for anyone to handle.

I have just spent 3 hours kicking the bullies off the Rogoff playground.

I work for free, and never have paid myself one cent.

I guess I don't consider CG mine.

It is a corporation unto itself.

MissScarlett: Any offers for the site? Any offers for the domain name? I’m betting that reports of the demise of this site have been greatly exaggerated.

Jul-24-21  George Wallace: < Susan Freeman: I have just spent 3 hours kicking the bullies off the Rogoff playground.>

Could you find anything less important to waste your time on?

Like going to the beach with a broom to sweep up the sand.

The same guys have been there doing what they do for 10 years.

See, what’s going to happen is if you start deleting posts, those deleted members will start hounding you to delete the other guy’s posts when they think it’s warranted. And then it escalates until the support page and the Whistle is constantly flooded, with dozens of pissed off members demanding equal treatment.

Where is the bottom to this abyss?

For example, as a Christian, I think if you allow the Lord’s name to be taken in vain on this website, then any and all offensive speech needs to stand, including BULLYING speech, because using the name of Jesus as a swear is BULLYING speech to Christians.

Yet you allow it on this site.

I don’t like it, but I haven’t asked you to censor it, have I? But now, if you start deleting my posts, just for example, I might make a big deal out of that and not let it go anymore.

Do you really want me hounding you every day?

Do you really want a dozen people hounding you every day?

I’ve seen it happen before to Daniel, which is probably why he eventually said to let them cry it out.

When it comes to the Rogoff page I only see two options:

1. Delete it
2. Leave it alone entirely

Any third option will result in endless escalation and added stress to your life. Isn’t life too short for stress?

  Susan Freeman: Sorry George
Personal attacks are not permitted.
Yes, the next option is to leave it alone, but then what is the purpose of a political site?

Willber G: I'm in favour of leaving <Rogoff> as it is (was) with regard to moderation. It's only the internet, nobody can get hurt, and there is the ignore function. I don't use it but I know many people do.

If there is a concern about how it might affect people's impression of the site, perhaps viewing/participating could be restricted in some way (premium members only?). Just a thought.

Jul-24-21  rbd: A few days ago , <susan freeman> had deleted my post too. I humbly accepted that and tried to understand where i crossed line so that next time i do not transgress.

Regards.

Jul-24-21  rbd: <Susan Freeman: Sorry George Personal attacks are not permitted>

Thank you <susan freeman>

Jul-24-21  rbd: As <susan freeman> said like <make your point in debate. Where is the need for personal attack ? >

Truer words were never spoken.

Jul-24-21  rbd: <Willber G: I'm in favour of leaving <Rogoff> as it is (was) with regard to moderation>

Oh, come on ! Toxicity is injurious to health .

Jul-24-21  rbd: There are so many smart , wise , knowledgable persons in rogoffland who contribute valuable posts. They deserve civil ecology which <susan freeman> is providing now . Gratitude to <susan> for that

perfidious: The same poster who, mere days ago, was strutting about this page and proclaiming his glee at having smited the 'libs', is now down in the dumps over some deletions, which surely even <he> knew were coming.

<Wilbur G> and I are in full agreement, and this may be the first time ever.

About the Rogoff page affecting people's impression of CG, I don't think it does, one way or the other. People come here for the chess. When they see that there is a page for politics and such, they probably don't care, and are probably glad that the rest of the site is free of politics. They probably appreciate the bug light effect of the Rogoff page.

<Susan>, if you try to henpeck the Rogoff page, you're going to ruin it for the people that post there. We don't come to CG every day to be henpecked. We come to the Rogoff page to enjoy the full-contact political cage fighting, including distorting usernames (because it's funny) and personal attacks.

Both sides have been peronally attacking each other for a decade and we come there every day for it. If you take it away, you're going to ruin the fun part of the page.

Many of the libs on that page have special nicknames for me, all of them very insulting, but it's all part of the fun and I don't mind one bit. I've enjoyed the abuse if I can put it that way.

The men on the Rogoff page don't need to be mothered and babysat. Let the men be men and let them interact with one another the way men do, when they are among themselves.

Don't try to force the men to behave like it's a girly tea party or a baby shower.

My two cents.
