Jun-24-22  Z free or die: Cloudflare you say?

<Cloudflare outages can bring down large chunks of the web.[62] There was major outage, lasting about 30 minutes, on July 2, 2019 attributed to bad software deployment.[63][64] In 2020, a misconfiguration of a router caused a data pileup and outage in major European cities.[65] Cloudflare experienced another outage in June 2022.[66]>

Hmm, what'd ya know - someone else had an outage in June, 2022.

<In May 2017, ProPublica reported that Cloudflare routinely discloses the names and email addresses of persons complaining about hate sites to the operators of those sites, which has led to the complainants being harassed. Cloudflare's general counsel defended the company's policies by saying it is "base constitutional law that people can face their accusers", and noted that there had been a disclaimer on Cloudflare's complaint form since 2015 stating that they "would notify the site owner."[60] Cloudflare's CEO later suggested that, had people not wanted their names shared, they should have provided a false name on the reporting form.[61]>

Fake names don't hate.

<Cloudflare provided DNS routing and DoS protection for the white supremacist and neo-Nazi website, The Daily Stormer>

Good company.

<Cloudflare services have been used by Rescator, a carding website that sells stolen payment card data.>

Hmmm...

<Cloudflare has been cited in reports by The Spamhaus Project, an international spam tracking organization, for the high numbers of cybercriminal botnet operations hosted by Cloudflare>

Who else has problems with bots?

<During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Cloudflare refused to join the international community and withdraw from the Russian market. Research from Yale University updated on April 28, 2022 identifying how companies were reacting to Russia's invasion identified Cloudflare in the worst category of "Digging In", meaning Defying Demands for Exit: companies defying demands for exit/reduction of activities. >

Gives "dig it" a whole new meaning.

Dionysius1: Olga viewer is my favourite, but most of the pieces are missing on the board!
Jun-24-22  Messiah: OK so there was a 48-hours ban applied:

<The account <Messiah> has received a kibitzing suspension for 48 hours due to the following post:

Messiah: Oopsie! :-)

REASON: VIOLATED RULE #2

Due to the brevity of this suspension, it may not be appealed. You will be able to post again at 2022-06-24 14:24:47 USA/Eastern.

Sincerely,
Chessgames.com Staff>

When will you start disciplining <harrylime>, <chrisowen> and <cormier> then, to name a few?

Whoops! :-)

Susan Freeman: <Messiah> I do not see where you have been banned anywhere, for any reason.

And what was wrong with that post? <oopsie>?

that is ridiculous.

Jun-24-22  Messiah: <what was wrong with that post? <oopsie>?>

This is a secret knowledge beyond all mortal bounds, an enigma no human mind could penetrate until we are cursed into beholding the divine proclamation of finishing human existence.

Stonehenge: There's nothing wrong with his ban. He has been spamming Carlsen games (where Carlsen lost) with this nonsense. I've deleted already dozens of those posts.

When even OCF complains, see Messiah chessforum (kibitz #62), you know it's bad.

Jun-24-22  Messiah: Complaint #7, 2022-06-24: There are too many games in the database.
Jun-24-22  Z free or die: <Messiah> - just put the move you think is the <oopsie> in front of the <oopsie> and any moderator who doesn't like your generic posting-style will be hard-pressed to actually delete it, in good conscious. (However, no guarantee on that, in the end.)

I think I suggested that idea to you long ago, though for other reasons, obviously.

.

Jun-24-22  diceman: <Messiah: Complaint #7, 2022-06-24: There are too many games in the database.>

People want large databases.

Jun-24-22  George Wallace: <Susan Freeman: <Messiah> I do not see where you have been banned anywhere, for any reason. And what was wrong with that post? <oopsie>?

that is ridiculous>

The problem?

<Stonehenge> is a Carlsen fan and he doesn't like <Messiah> saying anything negative about him. So he abuses the privileges you gave him to censor the posters he doesn't agree with.

<Susan>, I'm not sure if <Stonehenge> is American or not, but you've got to remember that Europeans just don't get free speech. It goes in one ear and out the other. They really don't get it.

I think you should be the only one who has the ability to ban posters.

Stonehenge: People can post negative stuff about Carlsen all they want, they just shouldn't be spamming.

Posting the same word or phrase a hundred times in a row, even if it is on a hundred different games, is spamming and not allowed.

It's bad, but I think the ban was a bad idea.

How about this? <Messiah>, please, knock it off. It's not cute, it's not funny, you have a lot to offer the site, but you massively turn people off by the silly anti-Carlsen tirade.

saffuna: What if there were a football site and someone posted "Oooooops!" for every game when Messi did not score a goal?

  Stonehenge: <<Stonehenge> is a Carlsen fan>

Yeah right...

My last post on a Carlsen game:

Carlsen vs Rapport, 2022 (kibitz #1)

My last post on the Carlsen page:

Magnus Carlsen (kibitz #18217) (yup, nearly 15 years ago).

Jun-24-22  Messiah: <saffuna: What if there were a football site and someone posted "Oooooops!" for every game when Messi did not score a goal?>

<harry> would go bananas?

Jun-24-22  George Wallace: <Stonehenge: People can post negative stuff about Carlsen all they want, they just shouldn't be spamming>

That's like hate speech. You can say whatever you want...as long as it's not <hate speech>.

And of course, we can put that label on whatever we don't like.

Jun-24-22  George Wallace: <stonehenge>, I find nothing <messiah> says interesting, helpful, insightful or valuable in any way. But at worst he's merely uninteresting.

You, on the other hand, are abusing the role of censorship and that's a worse offense than being uninteresting.

We have the <IGNORE> function whenever we want it. That solves all of these problems. I suggest you use it and encourage others to use it if you think <messiah's> boring posts are annoying.

But let's not be all Napoleon about it and start censoring posters just because <you> are annoyed by them.

  Stonehenge: <GW>

I know you're a classic internet troll, so I'll put you on ignore.

Jun-24-22  George Wallace: <Stonehenge: <GW> I know you're a classic internet troll, so I'll put you on ignore.>

See that?

Everyone can see that we were having a civil discussion, but he didn't like me disagreeing with him so he got upset and put me on ignore.

That's fine.

It just goes to show that he gets upset easily, <messiah> upset him, and he banned him for a few days.

<Susan>, I'll say it again. I think you should be the only one will the authority to suspend or ban anyone.

And please realize that non-Americans don't understand what a Free Speech Zone is.

Now <Susan>, you know that I am a devoted advocate of free speech, so I suggest if you need any help with this, you make <me> the person who suspends and unsuspends, who bans and unbans, as I would exercise this authority in the true spirit of American free speech.

Where are the keys?

Dionysius1: With regard to what <Georg Wallis> wrote above.

Freedom of speech is fine. As a North West European even I get that.

But freedom not to have to listen is good too.

And so far cg.com's support of fnthtl in the shape of the ignore button meets my needs. Though sometimes I'm afraid I miss some good stuff when an ignoree comes out of his/her idiocy cloud and posts something worth reading.

I'll risk it for now.

There are obvious ways to make it worse, but I'd be slitting my own throat mentioning what they are.

Dionysius1: Ain't that sweet. Olga viewer has replaced most of the pieces with thumbnails of pretty women. Now if only I can remember the raven-haired beauty is my KB!

Bonkers, but I expect the viewers aren't directly cg.com's responsibility, so I'll try to solve the problem myself. If I find a solution I'll post it somewhere more people can see it.

Check It Out: <GW>'s faulty attempt to redefine "No spamming" notwithstanding, it's a CG rule and <Messiah> breaks it regularly. Then he cries when people put him on ignore and he gets punished. Boohoo.

And since when did admiring a chess player of the highest caliber become shameful on a chess website?
