OhioChessFan: <opt: More likely a case of Pawn just shooting off his big fat mouth.>

Yep.

<It's highly unlikely he would so openly spell out a threat to hack the site if he was serious about it.>

Yep. The usual Pearl Clutching suspects are a bit emotional and a bit unlogical, so this obvious point escapes them. I've thought this from the day he left and wondered when someone else would point it out.

<If he really intended such a diabolical thing he wouldn't advertise it.>

Not to mention, he didn't do it. Anyone could do it. And surely that means something or another, although the Pearl Clutchers, again, all emotion, zero logic. Anyway.

Jan-21-23  stone free or die: <OCF>'s appear to logic has already been utterly refuted, logically, and with evidence (just above).

But that's psychology for ya - both <bippy>'s and <OCF>'s.

Gotta say that the pearl clutching accusations coming from a flat-earther is rather rich.

MissScarlett: < It wasn't another member who threatened sockpuppet armageddon on CG, it was him...>

How would a sockpuppet tsunami damage the site? The attack he's alleged to have carried out - as I understand it - was of a different nature entirely. Correct me if I'm mistaken. I read the threatened army of sockpuppets in the context of avoiding censorship.

OhioChessFan: I found a problem with the search function. I tried a search of "From" and it generated no results. "Martin" set forth a list of all Martins, including Martin From. "Sigfred" set forth a list of all Sigfreds including Segfred From. And both show up in a directory search under F. No idea why this is, but Martin in particular is a pretty important historical player to not show up on searches.

MissScarlett: <He's not so stupid to brag about hacking the site if he actually intended to do so.>

Except that's what <George Wallace> accused <Stonehenge> of doing with regard to the <Ken Rogoff> forum.

On which point, this is why I think any ban on <GW> should only be temporary, even if guilty. I contend that <Susan> believes <Stonehenge> was guilty as charged, although she didn't upbraid or punish him at all. Was the nature of <GW>'s alleged attack substantively worse than <Stonehenge>'s alleged attack?

Check It Out: Per <Susan Freeman>:

<Facts:
- CG's server was attacked

- We linked multiple hacker ip's to comments made a few years ago by a group of trolls, which spoke very much like our current day <George Wallace>

- With some help from emails, we were able to confirm that the trolls in the past were undeniably <BP>/<GW>>

So no pearl clutching or emotion involved, <OCF>. The site owner said <GW> attacked the CG servers. He's banned because of it. Cut and dried. But CG is going to upgrade their security systems so they can let him come back. I see a problem with that logic. He's a crook who committed a crime worthy of a lifetime ban from this site.

Same issue with <So> (sorry, Wesley) and <Forth>; no doubt, there are others. I assume these strings are also commands in whatever computer language employed herein.

Jan-21-23  optimal play: <MissScarlett: All I'm saying is give peace a chance:

All we are saying is give Pawn a chance

Everybody's talking 'bout sockpuppets, hacking cg, DoS-flooding, pearl clutching, Bangladesh contractors, ...

All we are saying is give Pawn a chance

<<He's not so stupid to brag about hacking the site if he actually intended to do so.> Except that's what <George Wallace> accused <Stonehenge> of doing with regard to the <Ken Rogoff> forum.>

Which is another reason to think Pawn wouldn't brag about it and then do it. Since he accused Stonehenge of doing that very thing, it would be extremely foolish of himself to also brag about something and then do it since he knows it would come back to bite him, as it apparently did Stonehenge.

Jan-22-23  stone free or die: I have to say I'm not impressed with the level of argument here(*)

For the record - <bippy> never bragged about the hack that he pulled in an attempt to gain backdoor entry into <CG>.

The one he got caught doing in the dark.

So those advocating for his return have been arguing against themselves, mainly.

Let's state the obvious then - since <Suzz> has admitted to having no technical chops, her opinion about <bippy>'s innocence must be based purely upon sentiment (basically, his word). Given <bippy>'s clear record of deception and sock puppeteering, there is little or no reason to take anything he says on face value.

The one argument his defenders use, that I find valid, is that he's done enough time, and has served his full sentence.

But given his recidivism, and many prior suspensions, he deserves a longer ban, not the shorter one <Missy> is advocating.

Just check <Daniel>'s and <Sargon>'s history with him.

* * * * *

(*) I'm also not impressed with the fact that <Missy> is on a crusade to keep this issue alive on this forum.

S/He well knows <Suzz> intends to reinstate <bippy> sometime soon. So <Missy> must be trolling in some measure by repeatedly raising this issue every several weeks. All this seems to have accomplished is the exit of <stonehenge>, which is a negative for the site.

It seems clear to me that <CG> has many more pressing issues that should be addressed first.

I'm pretty sure <bippy> is responsible for far more users leaving the site than coming to it. Which means he has cost <Suzz> real income on the whole. And that's not even considering the affect all the strife and discord on the site causing several editors and major contributors to leave. .

Susan Freeman: The question still remains, why would CG want him back. And what would he have to offer? This IS a chess site. Frankly , right now CG does not have the resources to moderate such nonsense. There is a ton of improvements ready to be launched that is a higher priority than someone’s fragile ego asking for a second chance to offend members for the pure sport of it.
