WannaBe: <cu8sfan> You are quite correct, I've been looking around (since chessgames.com's tournament page doesn't have a direct link.) so I figured that I'd go and find one!!

That was 4 days ago, I'm still looking. =(

cu8sfan: <yalie / all> Yes, I know this would be a way of avoiding the problem with the non-existing schedule but I have decided to not do the first round if the organizer's can't get the site up one hour before the round starts. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Annie K.: ... and let's hope they don't actually publish it one hour before the games start, since that would probably cause a rush to post in this forum that cg.com's server might not be able to handle! :)
Feb-18-06  deepfluke: I have been a passive reader of chessgames for over a year now and finally decided to register and here i am participating in my first prediction contest ... good luck to all and thx to cu8sfan for conducting it :) Here are my predictions for Round 1

Francisco Vallejo - Peter Leko 0-1
Peter Svidler - Veselin Topalov 1/2
Etienne Bacrot - Vassily Ivanchuk 0-1
Levon Aronian- Teimour Radjabov 1/2

cu8sfan: <all> I'd like to ask all participants of the prediction contest to read this post and follow these guidelines. Thank you! <1.> Please post your predictions in this order: White - Black Result.

Right:
Anand - Topalov 1-0
van Wely-Tiviakov 1/2
Karjakin - Adams ½
Leko - Gelfand Draw
Ivanchuk - Aronian =

Wrong:
Anand 1 - Topalov 0
van Wely 1/2 Tiviakov

<2.> Please always write the full last name of the player.

Right:
Peter Leko - Boris Gelfand 1-0
Anand - Ivanchuk 1/2

Wrong:
Peter - Boris 1-0
Vishy - Chuky 1/2

<3a.> Please don't post "mass predictions"

Right:
Anand - Topalov 1/2
Leko - Gelfand 1/2
Ivanchuk - Aronian 1/2
Bacrot - Karjakin 1/2
Kamsky - Adams 1/2
Tiviakov - Mamedyarov 1/2
Sokolov - van Wely 1/2

Wrong:
Round One: All Draws.

This may look tedious and redundant but it only takes a couple of seconds to copy somenone else's pairings and put a "1/2" behind each of them.

<3b.> If you want to write a mass prediction for all rounds you may do so but ask yourself what this will be good for. We have <Drawer> and will also have <Whiter> and <Blacker> so posting "I predict all draws for all the rounds" is not forbidden but doesn't make much sense, either.

<4.> If you don't plan to participate for the whole event please don't participate at all. One- or Two-round participants generate a lot of work and neither I nor they get something in return.

<5.> Please read the rules in my profile and on page 1 of the User: cu8sfan page.

Thank you for following these guidelines and making my life easier! Good luck to y'all!

  cu8sfan: <yalie> You don't have a prediction for Bacrot - Topalov:

<
Topalov-Bacrot 1-0
Bacrot-Aronian 1/2
...
Aronian-Bacrot 1/2
Bacrot-Aronian 1/2
>

Am I right to assume that the second line should be
<Bacrot-Topalov 1/2>?

Feb-18-06  Xaurus: <mikejaqua> Check this quote about Ulf Andersson: "He can be regarded as the all-time drawing master among the top GMs." +472 -221 =1231. Leko has to play some more games! :-)
Feb-18-06  mikejaqua: <Xaurus> Wow! Leko's record so far is only +261 -160 =535 A 56% draw rate. Compared to Ulf's 63%. Leko is certainly a piker compared to the great Scandanavian. But then Leko is still young. Maybe by the time he's been around as long as Ulf, Leko will be "drawing" closer to the record.
Feb-19-06  suenteus po 147: Hmmm.... 0/4 today. Topalov is a curse for me in predictions. I predict he is mediocre when he does well and I predict he does well when he loses or draws by the skin of my teeth. I'm most certain that tomorrow will be all short draws. Unless I predict all draws :)

Go Leko!

Feb-19-06  kolobok: i am 0/4 so you are not alone :)
Feb-19-06  YouRang: Off to a great start. For round one, I predicted 3 draws and 1 decided game.

The 3 games I predicted to be drawn were decided, and the 1 game I picked to be decided was drawn.

It's kind of a perverse talent.

Feb-19-06  Chesstosterone: This is my first time in a prediction contest (I could not in Corus because my membership was born in those days). I missed yesterday's predictions, but for sure I would not predicted Topalov's defeat or Leko's victory, so it does not represent too much difference. Anyway, my predictions

---
Round 2:

Leko-Radjabov 1/2
Ivanchuk-Aronian 0-1
Topalov-Bacrot 1-0
Vallejo-Svidler 1/2

---
<mikejaqua: <Xaurus> Wow! Leko's record so far is only +261 -160 =535 A 56% draw rate. Compared to Ulf's 63%... But then Leko is still young. Maybe by the time he's been around as long as Ulf, Leko will be "drawing" closer to the record.>

Kramnik also has expressed his desired to reach those heights; if I am not wrong, he said in an interview somethings like: "I want to stress clearly, that – as always – I am eager to continue and enhance my chess career. There are still many draws to achieve."

cu8sfan: <all> I must ask you to write either <Vallejo> or <Vallejo Pons> but not <Vallejo-Pons> as the dash throws off <YouRang>'s contest manager program. Thank you!
Feb-19-06  cade: Quite a terrible round for the predicters. Random kicking just about everyones ass.
Feb-19-06  Assassinater: <Quite a terrible round for the predicters. Random kicking just about everyones ass.>

Which means that people such as myself, who couldn't make the first round, still have a shot. ;)

Feb-19-06  suenteus po 147: <cu8sfan> Thanks for the heads up about the Vallejo Pons format. I won't do it again :)

Feb-19-06  YouRang: Hi <cu8sfan>. Did you try making a filter fixup to address the "Vallejo-Pons" problem? Such as:

"-Pons->Pons"

(I don't have access to the software just now to try it myself, but I think it should work.)
