Feb-19-06  kolobok: after 2 rounds iam 0/8 this record will be hard to beat for anyone i hope eventually i will get something correct :)
Feb-19-06  kolobok: all games i picked drawn were decisive, all games i picked decisive were drawn lol
Feb-19-06  suenteus po 147: I did much better for round 2, scoring 3/4! Once again, Topalov let me down, but if I make 3/4 from here on out I will find it my heart to forgive him :)
Feb-19-06  Chesstosterone: I missed round 1, I got 0 in round 2, what's next?? Could I establish a record of worst predictor?

(<cu8sfan>: Actually, the worst predictor (in average) could be rewarded at the same level as the best one!! Guessing the right scores is as difficult as guessing the wrong scores!)

Round 3:

Svidler-Leko 1/2
Bacrot-Vallejo 1/2
Aronian-Topalov 1/2
Radjabov-Ivanchuk 0-1

  cu8sfan: <YouRang> I wasn't able to fix the Vallejo-Pons->Vallejo problem with fixups. Were you?

<all> These were the mass predictions for the first two rounds:

Pairing: White wins /Draw /Black wins --> Predicted result /True result

Aronian-Radjabov: 11 /33 /5 --> 1/2 /1-0
Bacrot-Ivanchuk: 3 /32 /14 --> 1/2 /1/2
Svidler-Topalov: 6 /32 /11 --> 1/2 /1-0
Vallejo-Leko: 1 /38 /10 --> 1/2 /1-0

Ivanchuk-Aronian: 22 /25 /3 --> 1/2 /1-0
Leko-Radjobov: 16 /32 /2 --> 1/2 /1-0
Topalov-Bacrot: 42 /6 /2 --> 1-0 /1/2
Vallejo-Svidler: 2 /29 /19 --> 1/2 /0-1

As a group we are 1 for 8!

Feb-20-06  Appaz: I've done lousy with 2/8, and still I'm in the middle of the standings, so this tournament is really hard to predict. What is the world comming to when you can't even trust super-GM's to make short draws?

<<Chesstosterone> Guessing the right scores is as difficult as guessing the wrong scores> Actually no, since you have two wrong possibilities.

Round 3 predictions
Svidler-Leko 1/2
Bacrot-Vallejo 1-0
Aronian-Topalov 1/2
Radjabov-Ivanchuk 0-1

Feb-20-06  Dim Weasel: <Appaz> I've done even worse: I think I have 1/8 after two rounds. My prediction strategy 'win for Topalov else draws' was ok for Corus but seems to fail badly in Linares.
Feb-20-06  suenteus po 147: <Broon Bottle: Leko wins two in a row. What's he eating for breakfast?> Nigel Short Cakes.
Feb-21-06  suenteus po 147: <you vs yourself> It's a kind of a win-win prediction for me. If Ivanchuk wins he moves closer to securing my prediction of Ivanchuk finishing first and it gains me a point in this contest. If Leko draws or wins, then I rejoice as a Leko fan. See? Win-win, baby, all the way ;)
Feb-21-06  Bobak Zahmat: Thanks <cu8sfan> for providing so fast the standings after round 3.

  cu8sfan: <Hope I'm not too late to join in after missing the first two rounds. If I am just say so and I will skulk away listlessly.>

I once had the rule that you had to participate in the first three rounds or else I would not count your predictions. This was manly to get rid of one-round-participants that caused a lot of work for nothing in return. Now, with <YouRang>'s contest manager software I am so fast that one-round-participants don't bother me anymore. So go ahead and participate. Of course I'll still prefer y'all doing the whole contest.

Feb-21-06  ahmadov: Did you know that Radjabov is going to win Topalov with the Black pieces in round 4???
Feb-21-06  Bobak Zahmat: <ahmadov> Hihi :), you are real comedian!

  cu8sfan: Interesting stat here: Our mass predictor (the guy who always predicts what the majority of participants predicts) has predicted ALL DRAWS for the first three rounds except for one game.

Pop quiz: Which one?

  cu8sfan: <cade> Right, Topalov vs. Bacrot received 42 predictions for a white win, 6 for a draw and 2 for a black win.

Well, I actually had posted my predictions for the first two rounds, but...er...um...my dog ate them. Yeah, that's it!

Feb-22-06  YouRang: <Individual highlights for round 4>

BEST PREDICTORS (3 of 4):
ahmadov, Assassinater, yoozum

8 people went 0 for 4.

GAMES CORRECTLY PREDICTED BY THE FEWEST PEOPLE:

Topalov-Radjabov[0-1]
Predicted by: Jafar219 + ahmadov
(My hat goes off to those who got this one right -- a very gutsy prediction!)

Leko-Ivanchuk[1-0]
Predicted by: yoozum + radu stancu + ConLaMismaMano + Broon Bottle + Assassinater

Feb-23-06  Assassinater: A smart prediction would be for mostly draws, seeing as the pattern probably will be draw on the day before the rest day, then prepare for the next game during the rest day and come out firing for a decisive game. But I like taking risks. :P
Feb-23-06  ahmadov: <ahmadov> <Did you know that Radjabov is going to win Topalov with the Black pieces in round 4???> <Bobak Zahmat> <ahmadov> <Hihi :), you are real comedian!> It was only me and Jafar that predicted that Radjabov would win with black against Topalov. WE WERE RIGHT.
Feb-23-06  hitman84: mm.. just dropped in to see how many had predicted a win for Cool Radjabov(yup Teimor Cool Radjabov :-) <Bobak Zahmat>,<ahmadov> I should have guessed well done you guys!
Feb-23-06  Bobak Zahmat: <ahmadov> Congrats man! Really, I couldn't see this coming. Topalov is in bad shape this tournament. Hopefully he will recover soon.
Feb-23-06  ahmadov: <Bobak Zahmat> Thanks! When Greece won the European championship in football in 2004, a Turkish sports reporter said that today any football team could beat any other team and become champion because sports are developing so fast in the world. I think this can also be applied to chess. In Linares, anyone can beat others in the field. There is no obvious "strongest" in tournaments recently, IMO.
