  WannaBe: <YouRang> Just like betting on them ponies, pick the right (only) one, gets you big bucks, if everyone picks the right one, shucks!
Jan-23-06  YouRang: <EmperorAtahualpa> Sorry about that. To make it up to you, I went searching for a round in which you made positive money on your predictions.

Astoundingly, there were none! You lost money in every round!! Even more amazingly, you've managed to construct an almost perfect decreasing sequence of losses!!:

(1) -$0.22
(2) -$0.88
(3) -$1.14
(4) -$2.46
(5) -$2.98
(6) -$3.46
(7) -$3.30 (your only non-decreasing round)
(8) -$5.85

In terms of mathematical probability, this is really a remarkable feat! But it will be almost a miracle if you manage to lose even more money in round 9 than you lost in round 8.

I just want you to know I'll be rooting for you! ;-)

Jan-23-06  YouRang: <WannaBe> Yes, exactly like picking race horses! :-)
Jan-23-06  badmove: <YouRang> Thanks for your posts of highlighs in every round. Now I am really proud to appear twice in the item: "GAME CORRECTLY PREDICTED BY THE FEWEST PEOPLE". As my results as a predictor in general are just pathetic, I have realized I can change my style to "predict" surprising results, for example, victories of Sokolov, defeats of Anand and Topalov, etc. At least, I can be mentioned in one list.

Although ... if you think in your idea: "Earnings,UserID,Games,Rounds", it is not likely that I could have excellent results? I mean, if "non frequent" predictions worth more money. If you don't mind, I would like to know that ... probably I can have some future in Betsson...

  cu8sfan: Interesting stat here: Of all the predictions, for all the rounds, here's how some players were predicted:

<Player, # of wins predicted, # of draws predicted, # of losses predicted>

Anand, 230, 243, 15
Leko, 76, 370, 42
Gelfand, 67, 372, 49
Bacrot, 73, 314, 101
Karjakin, 55, 286, 147

and finally:
Topalov, 313, 165, 10

  cu8sfan: Here's a stat you guys will like: The outcome of today's games according to your predictions!

<Pairing: White wins / Draw / Black wins>

Anand - van Wely: 43 / 14 / 0

Kamsky - Adams: 4 / 45 / 8

Ivanchuk - Mamedyarov: 1-0

Jan-24-06  YouRang: <badmove><Thanks for your posts of highlighs in every round.> You're welcome! :)

<As my results as a predictor in general are just pathetic> Oh, I wouldn't call it *pathetic*. I notice that you're doing better than me!

  cu8sfan: I posted our combined predictions earlier today. Here's how we fared:

Anand - van Wely 1-0 (predicted 1-0)
Aronian - Tiviakov 1/2 (predicted 1/2)
Gelfand - Sokolov 1-0 (predicted 1/2)
Ivanchuk - Mamedyarov 1/2 (predicted 1-0)
Kamsky - Adams 0-1 (predicted 1/2)
Karjakin - Topalov 0-1 (predicted 1/2)
Leko - Bacrot 1/2 (predicted 1/2)

As a group we're a terrible predictor. (-:

Jan-24-06  dimradil: right, so i officially have the lowest score of everyone that made predictions for all 9 rounds ... can i have a "red lantern"- avatar ?
Jan-24-06  PinkPanther: Sokolov-Adams .5-.5 (although I wouldn't put 0-1 past Adams...Sokolov is really hitting his Corus stride now)

Bacrot-Kamsky .5-.5
Van Wely-Leko .5-.5
Mamedyarov-Anand .5-.5
Tiviakov-Ivanchuk .5-.5
Topalov-Aronian .5-.5
Gelfand-Karjakin .5-.5

Jan-24-06  PinkPanther: Why is it that all acirce ever does is predict draws?
Jan-25-06  BishopofBlunder: I have no real proof, nor have I figured out how he does it, but I just know that, somehow, <acirce> is cheating.

  cu8sfan: <I have no real proof, nor have I figured out how he does it, but I just know that, somehow, <acirce> is cheating.> He's got a 2025 sports almanach, like in "Back to the Future II".

So that's who I loaned it to!!

Jan-25-06  firebyrd: <PinkPanther: Why is it that all acirce ever does is predict draws?>

If he did he wouldn't be ahead of <Drawer>, would he?

A draw is the most likely outcome for most matches, and I guess he just doesn't predict another result unless he really believes that result to be more likely than a draw.

That is, he seems to be doing the same as the rest of us try to do, only he is right a bit more often.

  cu8sfan: Here are our combined predictions for round 10:

<Pairing: White wins /Draw /Black wins>

Gelfand - Karjakin: 11 /42 /3 ==> 1/2
Mamedyarov - Anand: 2 /28 /26 ==> 1/2
Sokolov - Adams: 3 /44 /9 ==> 1/2
Tiviakov - Ivanchuk: 2 /33 /21 ==> 1/2
Topalov - Aronian: 41 /14 /1 ==> 1-0
van Wely - Leko: 1 /49 /6 ==> 1/2

Jan-25-06  babakova: There is a superior way of getting points compared to predicting draw in all games; predict draw in all but one or two, this one game (two) is the game of the bunch that is most likely to end decisively. This way you will most likely never get a perfect 7/7 score but you will very rarely get under 4/7 which is quite a decent score looking at the top placers.
Jan-25-06  badmove: PS: <cu8sfan>: I realize that the round started 30 minutes before my prediction, I swear I haven't see anything on the games, I woke up late (8:00am ET, I put the prediction). This in case you consider my post invalid. Thans for your attention.
