What spybot search and destroy program do you use? I am currently having a chrome nightmare and have stopped using it for now.

Mar-28-13  Alien Math: <hms123> What problem with chrome, also what versions of your programs are using?
Mar-28-13  hms123: <AlienMath>

I have the latest version of Chrome but something called <proxy.allsearchapp> has taken over. I can't reset my homepage. I tried resetting Chrome by deleting the <default> folder but it didnt help. The newer Chrome doesn't have a reset button. I did manage to reset IE and FireFox (which were also taken over) and am using those two now. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well.

I am on a PC using XP.

Phony Benoni: <jfq> Again, my apologies for not answering you about Bucharest (1954). My health condition means I must take any cold seriously, and this one was a lu-lu.

Good to see Peter at least dropping in for a moment. Hope he likes what has been done with his work.

Mar-28-13  Boomie: <Jessie: It has the "Lost tapes" of Pelilau which I actually posted for you a few years ago, a forgotten and terrible episode in American history and an excellent documentary.>

Well, the Marines haven't forgotten that dreadful battle. The result was due to poor leadership and the skill of the defenders.

My Dad was also very bitter about the fact that Tarawa was turned into a garbage dump. How soon they forget...

BTW - A local TV channel showed an hour of the Bud Hawk testimony which is what turned me on to all this. Alas, one has to purchase the tape to see it all. He is such a fine fellow that the expense is well worth it. Plus I'm sure that any project he is a part of is for some good cause.

Mar-28-13  notyetagm: <jessicafischerqueen: <Coach> loved the last few selections you dropped in my forum, especially that subtle tactical point in the <Alekhine> game.>

You're welcome, <JFQ>. :-)

I am rooting for good chess but having said that, Carlsen has played *stupendous* chess:

1) great win over Grischuk

2) great win over Svidler

3) UNBELIEVABLY BRILLIANT win over Gelfand in Round 10. One of my fav games of all-time.

4) INCREDIBLE defense in his Black game against Kramnik's Catalan novelty in Round 9

GM Golubev in Chess Today:

<23.b4!!

A fantastic resource. White is not afraid
of opening the a-file.>

I am just *awestruck* at how great Carlsen's play in this game is.

Mar-28-13  notyetagm: Kramnik vs Radjabov, 2013

NM Monokroussos' annotations to Kramnik's *brilliant* winning combination:

30 ♖b6-b2!
31 ♗g2x♘d5!
32 ♖b2-b4!
33 ♘c6xe7+!

Monokroussos also points out that 28 ♖b7-b4! is much better than the moved Kramnik played 28 ♖b7-b6? to set the trap because 28 ♖b7-b4! sets the same trap and prepares to meet the proper <PINNING> defense 28 ... ♖d7-c7!= that Radjabov should have played with the <INTERPOSING> 29 ♖b4-c4 , retaining a slight edge for White.

28.b4! / sets the same trap, but without walking into the problems of 28.Rb6 Rc7! xa2? 29.e5 d5 30.b2 transposes to the game.

jessicafischerqueen: <Phony Benoni> and <TheFocus> thanks for those tasty fruits of your important and massive <US Open> project.

Be sure not to accidentally investigate Tennis along the way.

Mar-30-13  Boomie: <Jessie>

I stumbled on this remarkably cogent article on the Soviet school of chess by my old pal Jim McCormick. I vaguely recall that he had a degree in history before winning a bazillion Washington chess championships. Like you, he was a real stickler for citations.

Oops. I forgot the link to that article...The mad cow is taking over.

He is a great asset to the Biographers, that's for sure.

Mar-30-13  Boomie: <Jessie: thanks for that excessively well cited article>

I dredged that up while scanning the archives of Northwest Chess magazine. Going back to the 70s and seeing rating lists with the munchkin Yaz, John Donaldson and others evokes some nostalgia. There was also a BC section featuring old pals like Peter Biyiasis and Bob Zuk. Those were my coffee house days.
