Some years ago I came up with a new but simple system to calculate the final standings of a tournament including all players. This is how it goes:

For each correct standing you'll get a maximum amount of points. Each prediction deviation from the actual player standing in the tournament, will deduct one point from your total (ABSOLUTE RANKER).

In case of a shared player's standing the average standing counts (both actual and in your predictions).

The SQUARE RANKER, squares your predictions' deviations. Here only medals are awarded if the winner s is not the same person s as in the absolute ranker.

Same goes for the The PAIR BETTING RANKER compare all possible pair outcomes of the tournament participants.

The three best predictions will get Real Virtual Gold Silver and Bronze!

Note: only one set of medals is awarded (in the absolute ranker) unless another ranker produces a different winner.

Special thanks to <YouRang> who made a software to calculate these numbers.

Our new contest manager for game results prediction User: Golden Executive during the tournament also ([1-0], [1/2], [0-1])!

or predict the # of moves in User: ohiochessfan organized by <chessmoron>

Enjoy!

lostemperor: After an exciting finish HOFer <Penguincw> came out on top twice in the ABSOLUTE anD PAIR BETTINGS (and a Bronze in the square ranker)!!

<SwitchingQuylthulg>, who becomes a house-hold name in first Prizes took the Gold in the SQUARE RANKER and also took the second place in the prestigeous PAIR BETTINGS (and a Bronze)! He is approaching <WannaBe> in the Hall of Fame's Bests' list!

<scout118> took the Silver in the ABSOLUTE- and SQUARE RANKER!

Bronze in the ABSOLUTE RANKER goes to <Golden Executive>, who shows great form again with another HOFer <Keyser Soze> (and <SwitchingQuylthulg>)!

<wtwz> neatly took the Bronze in the PAIR BETTINGS!

Penguincw: Wow, double crown (but of course only 1 gold medal). Yay! Up to 4th now in the HOF, and 7th straight year I've won at least a gold medal somewhere. I think I should stick to this new strategy, whatever it is.

Congrats to <Switch> and all the other medalists, thanks to <lostemperor> for hosting, and see you soon. (perhaps Norway in June)

lostemperor: Congratulations to all who finished above me (who is everybody)! I took a gamble especially on Nepomniatchi (by putting him second) but it did not work out! :o

Fortunately for me <tuttifrutty> took very much risks although it almost paid off for him with several potential JACKPOTS, last of which after 11 rounds when WEI YI was above CARLSEN ;)

Kudos to all of those fortunate enough to walk away with a medal! Congratulations to <Penguincw> on winning a double crown, no easy feat, well done! Also congrats to <Switch> on picking up some gold & he is slowwwly creeping up on the rabbit. Watch your back <WannaBe>. :o
