"Play the board AND the man ! ".
But mostly the board.
Was born in Elsinore,Denmark,1953.And I am still proud of it.As I hope everyone is proud of hers/his startingpoint.

In many aspects life and chess do mirror each other IM experience. As science and belief goes hand in hand.So many "rules of thumbs" and many "exceptions" from the rule. I do agree with Bent Larsen who once said that someone who cannot contain a paradoxe is not using the full capacity of his brain.Actually I am convinced that there are no parodoxes, but perspectives which are more bright or flexible than others...

Though some obviously are borned under more easygoing circumstances than others,I will second our esteemed fellowkibitzer <zarg> who underlines that "luck" is also somehing that we create ourselves. Ourselves, but also together IM experience.
I try to live my life as if Jesus or Buddha knocked on the door , I would wellcome them as friends . And if they didn´t show up, it would be fine anyway.

May-23-18  morfishine: Dear <moronovich> I meant to add I admire your bio! I spent some time in France but never got to Denmark.

I am a history buff. Have you spent time touring any of the famous battlefields in Denmark, Belgium or France? There are so many from many different wars, it could take years to see them all. I always wanted to go to Arnhem (Not to mention Waterloo, Verdun and some from the old Roman wars)

best, morf

May-25-18  morfishine: <moronovich> Hello sir! Thanks for replying about the history in Europe! My granddad served in WWI near Verdun ( Montfaucon-d'Argonne). He was a messenger which turned out to be more dangerous than a regular infantryman! He had to ride a bicycle from the command posts to the front line trenches, which left him exposed behind the lines where a lot of German artillery shells fell regularly.

I hope you have a great weekend too! Since I served in the Navy, Memorial Day is special and important, but that will have no derogatory effect on my planned BBQ!

*I am working on your trivia question, very nice one! My first guess was when the tide turned against the German U-Boats in March 1943, the Allies advanced and improved 10cm radar allowed them to 'paint' a surfaced U-Boat to the point we could detect a raised periscope even if thats all that was above the surface

May-28-18  virginmind: Hi <moronovich>, we have returned from Italy the day before yesterday and yeah, it was lovely. Drove some 1400 km, plus 1000 in Romania, it was a bit tiring but of course compensated by the great state of mind.

We've visited most of the places we've planned to, meaning that we were taking daily trips by car around Recco, along the Ligurian Coast. Although maybe less known than the Franch Riviera, it is by no means less charming. Oh and we were lucky to stay in a villa apartment perched above the Golfo di Paradiso, which also had a splendid tropical garden around.

Weather was fine, only in the first few days it was colder than usual. No sea bathing (cold water), but we knew it from the start that beach leisure will not be included. We had, again, our share of historical and cultural encounters, admiring a lot of stuff pretty much everywhere. Genova was impressive, although the architecture's a tad mixed. Quite interesting Italian types and attitudes there, I felt sorry that I didn't do more street photography.

We mostly loved Santa Margherita Ligure, the golfe in Tellaro, Portofino and the Square of Miracles in Pisa (that tower appeared even more inclined than I thought). Rain impeded us from seeing more of Lucca. Of great charm were also Sestri Levante, Riomaggiore and the coast promenade in Nervi.

Back home, we celebrated yesterday the 60's anniversay of my parents wedding, together with 54 years of your truly - yes, in the same day of May 27.

And now preparing to enjoy a first round in Stavanger. See you around.

  moronovich: Good afternoon <virginmind> !

Busy at the Norway Chess for the moment,so just a brief reply :)

And first of all : Congratulations on your 54th! Well done young man and may many many more come your way, with all the best wind in your sails and the best of health.

And thank you very much for telling about your trip which sounds so good and my experience was a bit like getting a real glimpse of these places! And you did at least see the ocean... Supposedly also got a good taste from the famous italian kitchen.

So hopefully you(both) are now landed well and ready for further adventures on the hometurf ;)

Not so much to tell from here. One day passes after the other, but life in it self,is still beautifull with so many moments to explore.

Norway chess has just started and with a bang for Carlsen. But I am very curious to see if they go on playing so tight as have been the tendency lately.

The sun is very(too) hot,but here in the shade it is fine.

See you around and may you enjoy the remains of the day and may Magnus enjoy the remains of this -Bc5 variation that has served you so well !

May-31-18  virginmind: Good morning and thank you! 2/3 for Magnus, now that's good form! And determination to show that he can be equally lethal at home. I bet Garry's still very proud of his pupil.

Warmer than usual here too and no rain at all. Played two blitzes yesterday after a 16 days pause (the longest in the past 3-4 years) and lost them both.

Time and again reminisces of Liguria pass before my eyes, the light and the colours, so many colours, the sea somehow bluer than ever, very little wind if at all, seaguls over my head while resting on a long chair watching the quiet bay after a day trip... And now summer starting tomorrow with all its promisses, what one could wish more? Oh, did I mention Altibox, Rolland Garros and soon to follow Wimbledon at the reach of my hand? :)

Arrivederci.

Jun-01-18  virginmind: Recovering chess form: yesterday I won a game, then 1-1 (against a Dane), today I won against a Hungarian rated 400 points higher - but it was a friendly 10+4 min. blitz. Although dead lost and with little time left, the guy continued to play on the increments and finally lost on time.

  moronovich: Hi<virginmind> !

You are on fire! Perhaps the italian air,sea and the famous kitchen has given you a boost...

Yeah, you did mention Altibox,Roland Garros and Wimbledon, but let us not forget the World Cup :) And what about a little later TDF !? spoiled people in spoiled times we are.But that shall not prevent me from feeling gratitude.

Rigth now at Norway Chess and it looks like the draw curse could be broken today :) Perhaps...

Still hot here...now we need some rain and a change in weather if you ask me.

Hannah is with a good friend visiting AG on the hospice were shes being treated by the best professionals and the most caring people. She is in so good spririt as possible and I was glad to say hello to her the other day and crack a few jokes which it seems she needed.

I am fine measured by normal parameters and in fine spirit too,but I miss my old stomach is cooperating,so I can go to town and see friends.

So my dear:Weekend again and how did that happen ?

Take care and looking forward to see you again !

Jun-05-18  virginmind: Hi! Oh yeah, the World Cup too, you're right! Romania won't participate though, but I trust we'll have a lot of games to catch our attention anyway ;) In the mean time Halep is in the quarter finals, meeting Sharapova tomorrow. And TDF of course, remembering us some of the darling places...

Carlsen with a first loss to So, wow. He didn't attend the press conference. I haven't got the chance to go through the game, going to do it this afternoon. And poor Ding Liren, what a terrible bad luck for him with that accident. Hopefully he'll recover soon.

Weekend was fine, with a lot of tennis, chess and some movies added (we even went to the cinema to see a film on the last years of Stefan Zweig). That's great that you went to the hospital and tried to improve a bit the state of mind of Hannah's friend. It can indeed matter a lot for her.

Still warm here, and yesterday it finally rained for some 15 min. Contemplating going for some shopping later on. Also, feel free to come over to my forum, as Chessgames.com was so kind to renew my membership for 2 months.

See you around.

Jun-06-18  virginmind: My bad, she didn't meet Sarapova, but Kerber and now she's into the semifinals.

Thanks a lot guys!
2 hours till kick off.
Looking forward to it but...the nerves ;)

Dont think Peru will be a walkover.A close thriller ahead.

Hope at least you will enjoy the match :) Perhaps I will too :)

The stakes are high.

Jun-16-18  morfishine: Congratulations <moronovich>! Denmark was clearly the better team! Its important to win the first game in group format

  moronovich: Thanks <morfishine> !

It was after this nervewracking afair very nice to start with a victory and 3 points.But...the play ??? They really need to step up if the hope and aim of making it to the last sixteen, shall be fullfilled. So contrary to you,I found that Peru was a better team and we were lucky to survive.

But we shall see.First round in a world cup is always special. For instance we see that almost all the topseeds have dropped points.
