"Play the board AND the man ! ".
But mostly the board.
Was born in Elsinore,Denmark,1953.And I am still proud of it.As I hope everyone is proud of hers/his startingpoint.

In many aspects life and chess do mirror each other IM experience. As science and belief goes hand in hand.So many "rules of thumbs" and many "exceptions" from the rule. I do agree with Bent Larsen who once said that someone who cannot contain a paradoxe is not using the full capacity of his brain.Actually I am convinced that there are no parodoxes, but perspectives which are more bright or flexible than others...

Though some obviously are borned under more easygoing circumstances than others,I will second our esteemed fellowkibitzer <zarg> who underlines that "luck" is also somehing that we create ourselves. Ourselves, but also together IM experience.
I try to live my life as if Jesus or Buddha knocked on the door , I would wellcome them as friends . And if they didn´t show up, it would be fine anyway.

Jan-21-19  morfishine: <moronovich> Keep plugging away, its a long haul this leg. I don't know how many times I picked wrong with Carlsen over the past 3 legs. I pick him to win, he draws. I pick him to draw, he wins. Its been maddening. I almost fell outta my chair when I picked him to win last round, and he actually won!

moronovich: Morning <morf> ! <I pick him to win, he draws. I pick him to draw, he wins. Its been maddening.>

Yeah I know the feeling. When you go A,B happens. But then we go the reversed:B.Nope doesn´t work because then A happens. And so forth.Almost an eternal
bad circle.

Which reminds me about one of only two ways to win on the roulette:Find a very unlucky guy.Pay him some money to play for.Play the opposte of him.Pray he still is unlucky.

And it is very nice to see you are in the top on the leaderboard.

All the best -moro-

Jan-23-19  morfishine: Of course, anybody can rocket up the leaderboard or plummet like a rock without notice. Thats the beauty of the bookie game: the individuals solely decide how and what to wager. Sometimes not wagering at all is prudent! I would love to see this championship be a close affair where 5-10 players are sprinting to the finish and the winner is only decided after the last wager

Its still very early but its good to see you positioned so high! GL!

Jan-23-19  morfishine: Dear <moronovich> the game's heating up, well played round! And look, the <Count> has made up his awful losses and well back in the hunt too!

I can assure you that my sole purpose in life is to destroy all of you. I have close to 59 chips riding on the Gibraltar thing.

Other than that, I have a strong sense that my pure presence on TATA will make you all shut up.

I may be 13.000 chips removed from the leaders right now, but make no mistake by counting me out ;)!

  moronovich: Diademas !

Lol!
Or as we say in danish:You aint got a chance.Take it! But then again. As I once was 14 and visiting a Tivoli with no money left, but dressed up with a lot of hope and fantasy I found a single coin on the floor and chipped it into the nearest slotmachine. And voila a jakcpot! 3Bars and the best sound in the whole world.I still have it stored somewhere in my memory Many years later on a Casino the story repeated itself. No money left, but returned to my appartment with some 3000 Dkr in the wallet. So I wont count you 100% out ;)

  Diademas: Those @#$%* Danes.
Got to love them. My first fantasy's involved red sausages and Jolly Cola. Do they still exist?
Jan-23-19  Count Wedgemore: Dansk salami, 'Danskepølse', was heaven. So delicious. And strictly forbidden in Norway back then (The additive E160, I think, that gave its distinct red colour, not legal in Norway until we were forced to accept it through EØS-rules).

They still do,but the (in?)famous Jolly isn´t sold that much anymore.

Jan-27-19  rogge: Gratulerer til de danske drenge! De var best gjennom hele VM, og vant ytterst fortjent. Jag sluttet å se på etter 20 minutter, he he.

Jan-30-19  virginmind: Thank you for the kind wishes, <moronovich>. It's been steady lately, only the headaches occurring more often, that is instead of Panadol every 24, now it's every 12 hours. Should be all right though, today I won two blitzes. Quite warm outside for this season, and no more snowing.

So Kramnik retired, well, looks like a moment in chess life. He did represent something for a lot of people. I remember following the Elista saga back in 2006 here and rooting for him. I somehow feel bad that he won't be around anymore, in classical chess events.

Congrats for Carlsen winning yet another Tata Steel!. And now following the last two rounds in Gibraltar. Hugs to you and Hannah.

moronovich: Good noon dear <virginmind> ! Thanks for your post as it is always nice to hear from you ! I sincerely hope your headache will be kept so much in "control"as possible. And haven´t we tallked before about the magic that 1 panadol + 1 ibupren can make if taken together !?… And btw I read about a man who had(have) schlerosis and it helped him by taken a cold bath, like in winter bathing. But I can imagine you have hear about this before.

Otherwise it is a silent saturday, try not to smoke and enjoy the lady is off with some friends amd looing forward to get her back again.Yesterday was was another succes with JWH,which also reeflects on this saturday to make it better somehow. No chess tournaments, but that is fine too.Congratulations to Magnus for another win and nice to see he is back. And interesting with Artemievs win in Gibraltar. He seems to be made of the right stuff,so perhaps top 10 or even top5 !? material. And very young he is.

Oh yeah old Vlad is retiring.Ill thank him for all his efforts and contributinos to chess and hopefully he will enjoy his new chess life as a teacher/coach for the youngsters.(Ps.:):psst I saw Hannah with a secret parcel the other day, just in time to hide it.And I am pretty shure it is a Kramnik book for my birthday!...but dont tell her I know:)

So may you enjoy your weekend and take care with best of health. With hugs to you and Maria.

And see you up or down the road !

Feb-05-19  morfishine: Dear <moronovich> I hope all is well with you and your wonderful wife and family! I hope you are not suffering too much from any physical ailments; I understand better now that I am approaching 60 years that 'little things' can be much more debilitating than 25 or 30 years ago. I don't like it, but we must soldier on!

Now, I try to stretch the muscles and limbs and limit my consumption of anything, beer or food, so it puts less stress on the body! Being limber and light is not THE answer, but it is AN answer!

Do you read books? I am a voracious reader and have been for 40 years. Have you read anything interesting lately?

  moronovich: Good evening <morf> !

Thanks for your post and judged by your comments at the <Count> it seems that you are reday for another round with the "boys" :) No,I haven´t read many books in my life, mainly crime stories and stuff like that.I preferred the contact with people and they often opened up and told their stories.About themselves and about their country and /or region. These meeetings were my stories too. I wanted to write a book myself,in my retirement, but as you know I was(am)hindered by e.g. some kind of dizziness That has lasted for some 13 years now.
So yes,I can support your view of how important it is to take care of ones health. Actualy today we will have these pancakes with shrimps !:)(But no onion, which seems to be a floriddan invention:)

Take care dear <morfishine> and see you at St Louis !

Sounds like there could be a song in there : "Meet you at St. Louis".....

Feb-06-19  morfishine: <moronovich> Ha, Ha! I love onions, I put them in about every dish. However, all onions are not created equal. Different foods require different onions. For example, sauces and stews need yellow, white, red (Spanish) or boiler onions.

What I like is the famous Vidalia sweet onion! You can eat these raw on a sandwich, for crying out loud (no pun intended). But, in a pinch, serve well in stews too.

Do you have a problem obtaining good onions in Denmark? I've heard stories about different veggies being hard to obtain in Europe from time-to-time depending on the season

We also get a nice variety of tomatoes here in Florida. I prefer driving out to the farms and getting the best home grown beef steak tomatoes. These are a deep red and delicious to eat

I can talk about food all day long, perhaps I'd better go now

Feb-07-19  Count Wedgemore: Hi there, <moro>. Good idea to post the new posting guidelines on the Rogoff page. I sincerely hope the level of discourse on that page can improve a little. Lately it's just one insult after another. I suppose that page has always been kind of like that, but I think now it's worse than it was when I joined this site. So sad that so many people seem to literally hate each other's guts because of opposing political views. Why is that?

Look at us, <moro>. You're a Leftie, and I'm a Rightie. Still, we are great friends. And why shouldn't we?

Then again, we're Europeans :) We've had enough (world) wars over here already, while our friends 'over there' are still fighting the civil war it seems! And the polarization in US politics has only become gradually worse over the last decade.

Let our friendship be an example for the Rogoffers!

Håper du har en hyggelig aften og at alt står bra til :)

  moronovich: Good evening <morf> !

I love your attitude with tomatoes.Nothing like a new fresh natural sunripened tomatoe!

And yes and no.Denmark is/was not much of an onion country, but I remeber my upbringing were I was mad about onions. So `ll hereby post my late mothers recipe:

1 pan, dipped with oliveoil and butter.

2.Slice tomatoes and onions ,2/3 tomato and 1/3 onion.

3.Lay them on the pan.Medium hot.Boil for around 10-12 minuttes.(onions must not be browned).

¤.Meanwhile you have cooked potatoes(pealed afterwards).

5.Serve potatoes topped with the panboiled tomates and onions.Important : Salt only added afterwards and only if needed.

That is delice.Simple and magic and easy!

All the best - moro- .

Feb-07-19  morfishine: <moronovich> That recipe with the onions, tomatoes and potatoes sounds really good! And isn't simple better?

I remember my Grandmother serving succotash during family 'get togethers'. She served it as a side dish during good times. But during hard times, like the Great Depression, succotash was sometimes all that people had to eat. The primary ingredients were corn and lima beans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Succo...

Later it was revealed that with onions and other legumes, this was one of the most nutritious foods one could eat, primarily because its packed with essential amino acids. So the people down on their luck were staying very healthy!

My grandmother served her succotash with butter and pepper and it was the best!

Feb-07-19  morfishine: But my grandmother didn't call it succotash, she called it 'Butter beans and corn'
Feb-09-19  achieve: I have a recipe too, learned just a few days ago, with codfish and potatoes and parsley, onion, and some pepper and salt, than bake it in butter like a steak... Highly recommended.

Just wanted to say hi to <moro> and <virginmind>, who welcomed me over at Susan Freeman's forum. ;)

Hope all is pretty good, and maybe I'll come back here once in a while.

Feb-09-19  virginmind: Hi <achieve> and if I may welcome you here too, at <moronovich>'s place, who's been so kind to host us and maintain a great chat...Indeed we were kinda worried some time ago when we noticed you've simply disappeared from here and also didn't post anymore on <cg.com> and we were wondering what was going on. Finally we found out and I'm very sorry to hear you had such huge problems in all this time - but glad that it all turned out well in the end, with your health. Definitely looking forward to continue our discussions here and, of course, with our dear <moronovich>.

Speaking of your recorded voice (as I've read on the other forum), I seem to remember you once told us you can play the piano, and also we shared some opinions on music. Well, since about 2 years, I've composed about 50 musical snippets, and recorded them on the laptop - by whistling, since I can't play any instrument. They're mostly classical bits, but also jazz-like or simply contemporary tunes. I loved doing it, and even once said that it's one of the very few moments when I was really doing what I like - and, why not, what I should have always done. See you around!

And hello <moronovich>, how have you been doing lately? Is everything all right? I guess from time to time some dizziness, but I know you keep a fine spirit and enjoy life as much as you can. Of course that's the way to go...Cheers!
