Jan-16-25 | | stone free or die: <<Stonehenge> I don't know how Daniel made it work.> That makes a good question ("how did he do it"?). I don't know either, and only have a vague idea that we may have talked about it, briefly, at one point. When I first started writing my chess programs I heavily referenced <CG> at first, as well as <FIDE>. I don't regret all the time I spent accommodating <CG> structure (and sometimes, the lack thereof), but I have to save it's proven largely not so useful. FIDE downloads of player data are here:

Jan-16-25 | | stone free or die: Here's an early example of some FIDE discussion, which I mention in large part because <switch> commented - I believe he was a major technical advisor to <Daniel>: Silvia Sotomayor (kibitz #1) |
|
Jan-16-25 | | stone free or die: I did a general google search and found <Daniel> replying to a barrage of my questions about <CG> & <FIDE> here: chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #22583) Not sure if there's a clear statement on updates therein, but this must be close to what I mentioned before. My searching abilities are limited, so it's the best navigation setting I have at the moment. |

 | | Check It Out: <Steve: Do any of the pages with the issue have the "Mobile Version"> Ah, interesting. I use the mobile version on my cell, and here's what I've found: -chess games show mobile logo
-player pages show mobile logo
-tournament pages show mobile logo
-the kibitzer cafe shows desktop logo
-user forums show desktop logo
This corresponds to the font sizing problem.
I don't think this is new, I've had this issue for a long time and just now got around to pointing it out. |
|
Jan-17-25
 | | Check It Out: Oh, now I've just noticed the CG home page has neither logo, just the name in plain script, no horsey. |
|
Jan-17-25
 | | Check It Out: For clarification, the home page sizing is just right. |

 | | Chessical: Attempting a pure full game analysis (one with no moves selected for extra analysis), produces an error message "Insufficient parameters". When I add a move to be especially analysed, I still get the same response. |

 | | jnpope: <Steve>, the "games submitted by users with a space in their username" bug has returned:
stevemcd87 chessforum (kibitz #1462) <Sally Simpson 2025-01-18 12:01 1.6K> This appears to be impacting <Sally Simpson>, <Honza Cervenka>, <FM David H. Levin>, and <number 23 NBer> from what I can see in the submissions directory. Looks like the bug returned between the 7th and 11th, but I'm just now getting reports about upload "failures". |

Harikrishna vs R Praggnanandhaa, 2025 <It is impossible to remove the notification in black with the yellow bar that warns about cookies. No matter How often I tap it it won’t go away and keeps blocking part of the text. This is already for a long and is a big irritant.> I don't know if they're talking about the game above or that they took a random game to make a more general complaint. Perhaps they're on a phone? |

 | | stevemcd87: <Stonehenge> We made an update that should keep the FIDE ratings up-to-date for all players🤞. I've tested it on a majority of the World Blitz Championship (Women) (2024) players. The issue seemed to have been for the lower rated players. Let me know if the issue persists |

 | | Sally Simpson: When I look at Helmut Krausser page. The screen keeps reloading every 5 seconds with the same message in red: 'Players FIDE Rating was updated. Reloading...' Then I get a screen: Too many request have been made If you believe this to be an error please email us at chess@chessgames.com (I did and sent a screen grab) |
|

 | | Sally Simpson: See above.
When I am logged out, this does not happen. |

Jan-24-25
 | | Sally Simpson: Looks like it has been fixed. |

 | | stevemcd87: <Sally Simpson: When I look at Helmut Krausser page.>
Thank you for reporting the issue. We disabled the feature after the bug was reported, made an update, and have it running again. It seems it doesn't work for ALL users just yet ( Hayoung Wong ) but it shouldn't run a reload loop anymore. We'll resolve that issue soon. |
|
Jan-24-25 | | stone free or die: Steve - are you aware that FIDE issues ratings in a giant zipfile for all players? You should be using that, and following FIDE's schedule for new updates, rather than pinging/scrapping the FIDE player pages. That's my recommendation.
(If you insist, I would recommend pinging https://www.2700chess.com/ for the most up to date rating. But it's unofficial, not being from FIDE) |

 | | Tabanus: <stevemcd87: <Tabanus> We'll have that feature up for you in a couple of days.> Ten days now. Some (long) tid names can be shortened in the games' Event field, no? I could ask in the Bistro if anyone cares. |

Thanks for letting me know, I was searching for some sort of API. With that, we should be able to create/run a script to ensure all players FIDE ratings are up-to-date. <Tabanus: <stevemcd87: <Tabanus> We'll have that feature up for you in a couple of days.> Ten days now.>
Sorry for the delay. We've added the feature to the editor's page. You may need to do a hard refresh (ctrl + shift + r) to see the update. |

 | | Tabanus: <Steve> I see it now. Thanks! |
|
Jan-26-25 | | stone free or die: <<steve> ratings are up-to-date.> I don't think <FIDE> updates the player pages more frequently than the zipfiles. https://ratings.fide.com/download_l...
The live ratings on <chess2700> are pretty reliable, but I wouldn't really recommend them over the official release. Really chess2700 is for entertainment purposes, and hardcore rating "nuts". |

 | | Chessical: <Stevemcd87> I requested a computer analysis of L Christiansen vs A Yusupov, 1992, after six hours nothing had come back. I then repeated the request and received the auto reply, "One game analysis at a time. Game Analysis usually is complete in less than 10 minutes. Sorry for the inconvenience." |
|
Jan-29-25
 | | stevemcd87: <Chessical>
Game analysis should only take a few minutes now. It seems we need to leave the window open while analysis is in progress for it to complete. We'll get that fixed as soon as possible. A workaround for now will be to terminate the analysis from the Laboratory and request the game analysis again. Sorry for the inconvenience.L Christiansen vs A Yusupov, 1992 [analysis] |

 | | Tabanus: Steve, have a look at London Chess Classic (2016). Keohane and Summerscale did not play in that event (but perhaps in a LCC 2016 side event). Now from the Bistro: <jnpope: <Stonehenge: Once all tournament games are in, editors should be able to <lock> the tournament so that no games can be added by accident.> Agreed.> I agree also. Perhaps you can do something about this? |
|
Feb-06-25
 | | Stonehenge: <invisible aliases> For example games by D. Antic are automatically assigned to Dragan Antic and games by H. Erdogan are automatically assigned to Hassan Erdogan. But there are no aliases visible to us poor editors. I want to be able to zap those aliases. |
