 | | MissScarlett: Didn't work: https://www.chessgames.com/nodejs/g... Please advise. |
|
Oct-23-24 | | stone free or die: <Missy> being cryptic. I believe the issue is that the game was processed but the <WhiteTeam/BlackTeam> tags didn't make it across the finish line. (Me, being pedantic)

 | | stevemcd87: <MissS> I deleted the game you provided and uploaded it again, it worked( https://www.chessgames.com/nodejs/g... ).
I could only assume that game was uploaded before I made the gameloader update.
I also uploaded round 4, all seems to be working fine. |

Oct-24-24 | | stone free or die: <Steve> did you see my request for resurrecting the <Chess Notes> auto-magic links? Also, any chance to add <Event/Site> searching? And adding round number to game listings, especially for complete tournaments? . |
|
Oct-24-24 | | stone free or die: Oh yes, could you also please promote <Chessical>'s pending collections to tournaments? (The Bistro quorum system is broken, so it's well overdue to just push 'em through - <Chessical>'s work is at least as good as anyone's, often better) |
|
Oct-24-24
 | | jnpope: Biographer Bistro (kibitz #29848) The problem is <Chessical> doesn't have anything in the queue that hasn't become an event. I think what you want is for Steve to purge the voting queue so it doesn't appear to have items waiting to become events. |
|
Oct-25-24 | | stone free or die: Yes, <jn> is correct, I was a little confused (or forgot) the collections were promoted without clearing the queue. But <The Bistro quorum system is broken> and <<Chessical>'s work is at least as good as anyone's, often better> still apply. The quorum system might be revitalized though, as I consider seeing <OCF>'s editing posts a hopeful sign for the future. |

 | | stevemcd87: <z>
I've updated my bio with the new requests.
Re <Event/Site> searching, we began working on a new games table which we can add columns and filters easier(e.g [unknown player] ). We will make cosmetic updates in the future; perhaps hiding the filters until the click of a filter icon next to the column header. |
|
Oct-29-24 | | stone free or die: <Steve> I noticed your bio updates. I see the new page and will have a few comments on it soon. Have you familiarized yourself with other chess db's? Specifically <SCID> or <ChessBase>? . |
|
Oct-29-24 | | stone free or die: <Steve> - I just tried a couple of links in your profile and they don't work for me. This is because I have a different ignore-list than you do. So our kpages don't match up. I actually got <Daniel> to implement a "perma-link" for <CG> posts using the right-click on the post date trick. It not only doesn't depend of the kpage of the url, it takes you directly to the post. Do you know this?
If not...
1) Mouse over a post's date.
2) Right-click and select <Copy link address>
3) Paste it in where needed.
Compare the old way:
=57#reply1460 >
And the new way:
d=U1421&reply=1460 >
(Due to Daniel's auto-magic linking I had to tweak the url with / - which still doesn't avoid the auto-line splitting. <CG> could use a verbatim mode (aka <pre> in html) |

Oct-30-24
 | | jnpope: <stevemcd87>, I've been tracking down a bug with the upload form that some users have been complaining about in the Bistro since the new form updates. I think I've finally tracked it down.
Both users complain that when they upload games they get an error message, but the uploads actually worked, the problem is that the older upload code would encode the space-character in a user's name with an underscore-character. Now the upload just leaves the space in place (no character swap). If you look in the holding directory for the PGN uploads you will see:
Sally Simpson, 2024-10-30 11:08, 41K
Sally_Simpson, 2024-09-01 11:11, 0
Alan McGowan, 2024-10-27 13:26, 1.9K
Alan_McGowan, 2024-06-08 08:34, 0
The https://www.chessgames.com/editor.h... User drop-down selector doesn't appear to load in any "users" (files) that have a space in the user-name, you will see a "Sally_Simpson", but no "Sally Simpson", and "Alan_McGowan", but no "Alan McGowan" so those files cannot be processed. It would appear that there are two "bugs":
1) The faulty error message on upload for users with spaces in their user-names.
2) The space vs underscore character problem in the temporary holding filename.

Oct-30-24
 | | jnpope: Users "Honza Cervenka" and "Jack Son Je" are also impacted. |
|
Oct-30-24 | | stone free or die: With so many users affected I have to raise the issue of quality control. • Did <CG> make changes to the PGN submission process without adequate testing? • Why weren't changes rolled back upon discovery of issues (and tested offline)? • Are certain users affected while others aren't? . |
|
Oct-30-24 | | stone free or die: I see <jn>'s post now, and this seems to explain much of the details, and likely answers my third bullet point. But the first two remain, on general grounds. |
|
Oct-30-24 | | stone free or die: Just curious, <jn>, but, roughly, how long has this issue been ongoing? It seems to me a month or longer even.

 | | stevemcd87: <Stonehenge: After uploading games via <Upload a PGN file>, <Update Event Name> doesn't work. Also, it says <No Processed Submissions> even after the games are actually processed.> <jnpope:
It would appear that there are two "bugs":
1) The faulty error message on upload for users with spaces in their user-names.
2) The space vs underscore character problem in the temporary holding filename.> These issues should be fixed now.
Let me know if you run into anymore problems.
<jnpope> Thanks for the help! |

Nov-03-24
 | | jnpope: I hope the bug report was sufficient. I haven't had to file one since I retired from being a developer. :-p |
|
Nov-04-24
 | | jnpope: Not really a bug, but piggy-backing on Chessicals request <Update Advanced Search feature to only filter surnames>... if at all possible can the PGNs be fixed so that the White and Black names follow the PGN spec ("Lastname, Firstname" format)?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porta...
For some reason Daniel "normalized" the names to be "Firstname Middlename Lastname" which makes the CG downloads incompatible with other sources that follow the PGN specification (which makes things a bitch to sort!).I have no idea how the CG database table schema supports names; are there even individual database fields for the parts of names? At the very least creating a surname field followed by an "ante nomen" field (for everything else), would help solve the PGN issue and would allow for a way to implement <Chessical>'s request. |

 | | perfidious: <steve>, I have contacted an admin who has greater privileges than mine and who was unable to resolve this matter, so time to have a go. There are several headers which have incorrect spellings of player names and are irksome to see, to wit: 'Makagonov' vis-a-vis the correct Makogonov; Bonsch-Osmolovsky rather than the Russo-Soviet master Bonch-Osmolovsky; Sarrat, instead of the 19th century English master Sarratt. |
