 | | Penguincw: Happy New Year <WannaBe>! BTW, if you wish, please post your predictions for the 2016 IIHF Men's Junior Championship on <MN>'s forum. P.S. Congrats for being one of the first 2 users to post a kibitz in 2016 (rather your post on <cg>'s forum or <perfidious>'s post on the Rogoff page was first, I can't tell). I was 3rd, with my post on the POTD. |

 | | WannaBe: Annotated and heavily critiqued edition of "My Struggle" (In German) are now available. http://news.yahoo.com/mein-kampf-pu... I have an English translated copy of the original, which I picked up years ago at an used book store. No annotations, no scholarly commentary, just what was written and published back in 1930s |

 | | WannaBe: <OCF> I bit/held my tongue for 4 days, so... My investment strategy, buy & hold (solid) dividend stocks. (I blame W. Buffett for this, he is WB, after all). So I am fairly "Old Schooled". I don't see the attraction of TWTR, I don't use it, I don't follow anyone on it, it's a very limited (product), best hope is for someone to buy them and be willing to pay X% above current price. (Unless they do something so revolutionary that turns communication and how people communicate completely on its head) As (somewhat of) an example, AAPL, once this rumour that Apple have slashed their iPhone production by 30% the stock have been in a tailspin. And AAPL makes/markets more than just iPhone, but it's, so/too limited. Analysts and current market are focused on how many iPhones and iPads they sell, what about their Mac and laptop products? Another one is GPRO, going down the tubes for the last few month. Too focused on one type of product, and there were rumours that AAPL would buy them, or some other high-tech company would. GPRO have gone down ~70% since their all time high. My personal opinion of TWTR is the same as GPRO, stay far, far, far, away. |

 | | WannaBe: <OCF> First off, disclosure, I own Ford (F) stocks and drives a Ford. This one befuddles me, the PEG ratio is .39, nice dividend payout but the stock is not headed up. I am currently just sitting on my shares, collecting dividend re-investments every quarter and am a happy camper. |
|
Jan-12-16
 | | WannaBe: GPRO, LL, TWTR are all down so far for today. |

Jan-12-16 | | thegoodanarchist: <WannaBe: Don't forget who your buddies are!> If I win, I will meet you in Reno and bankroll some bets for ya on next year's SB ;) |

Jan-12-16 | | thegoodanarchist: <WannaBe: <OCF> I bit/held my tongue for 4 days, so... My investment strategy, buy & hold (solid) dividend stocks.> OMG I am so happy to learn that your forum is the investing forum! And we have the same strategy - buy and hold solid dividend stocks. My favorite is JNJ, but SBUX is a close second. SBUX been berry berry good to me. <OhioChessFan: Twitter is under 20.......I am massively tempted to go in big.> Ohio be careful! I don't see Twitter as a buy-and-hold-forever stock. And if you are just trading, remember the market trend is your friend (your BEST friend) and right now the trend is down. |

 | | WannaBe: <thegoodanarchist> I'd be more than happy to discuss investing (or just money) with you, or anyone. My education background is in math and computer science, that's where I make a living, but I'd as comfortable discussing Calls/Puts and what not with fellow CG.com members. As a common practice, I will always disclose what I own and not own before discussing anything. And people should also know that reading the prospectus and knowing the investment risks are before buying any security/bond are a <MUST>. =) |
|
Jan-12-16 | | thegoodanarchist: <WannaBe: ... but I'd as comfortable discussing Calls/Puts and what not with fellow CG.com members.> Sweet! Looking forward to the discussion.
I keep my option strategies to a minimum. I foolishly sold covered calls on my GE stock at a strike of $28 when it bounced early last year. I knew it would sell off after the bounce but I picked a long date (December) and the shares got assigned because the stock took off in Autumn. And that isn't the worst that's happened to me. So I am extra cautious with options. But I have no problem with full disclosure: Still long GE :)
I hate funds, be they mutual or Exhcange traded. Well, hate is too strong. I might eventually buy FGD to get global exposure to dividend stocks. But funds have so many disadvantages that I tend to stick with individual stocks. |

 | | WannaBe: Holy Crapolla, GPRO is headed toward $11.00 in after-market trading. Company laid off people after weak revenue earning for Q4. |

Jan-14-16 | | thegoodanarchist: I am getting just good enough, at predicting market direction, to make me a hazard to my own portfolio. I have called the last 4 days, including today, correctly as far as direction (although today could still turn into a down day). I know that as soon as I start buying puts on the S&P we will have a sharp rally. I will get scared and close my position for a loss, and then the market will tank again. NDSN is starting to look reasonably priced, though. I might initiate a position if it gets under $53. |
|
Jan-14-16
 | | WannaBe: <thegoodanarchist> I prefer to sell covered calls, make a bit more (safe) money. I do it usually two weeks out, at a strike price that I think will not reach and have a good premium to make it worth while. |
