Jun-29-11 | | jia: Sasikiran blundered and Caruana missed it omg. |
Jun-29-11 | | Kanatahodets: It's not over. I predict Caruana will still win after few more blunders... strange game. |
Jun-29-11 | | Kinghunt: I'll have to look in more detail at the Caruana game later. It ended up drawn with Caruana holding by reaching the Philidor position. |
Jun-29-11 | | Kanatahodets: Wesley will play with Hou and Negi, presumably weakiest players in the tournament. So, he keeps good chances for overall win. |
Jun-29-11 | | Atking: <Kanatahodets> One should not underestimated Hou and Negi but right Wesley So played yesterday an impressive game. (Chess.game.com. You forget to adjust the result of So and Sasikiran in the tournament table up. Still under 6 games for these players) |
Jun-29-11 | | wordfunph: <Atking: Chess.game.com. You forget to adjust the result of So and Sasikiran in the tournament table up> standings after 7th:
5.5 = Caruana
4.0 = So / Sasikiran / Laznicka
2.0 = Hou
1.5 = Negi
--- |
Jun-30-11 | | Kanatahodets: Crazy 8th round. I'm sure by now you fan lost. This amounts to all decisive games. Wesley lost but the position after debut was above my judgement: too complicated. I don't see where he made mistake. Maybe he had to choose different beginning. Laznichka blundered again. Fabiano completely outclassed Hou. There were no chances for her. |
Jun-30-11 | | Kanatahodets: Atking was right. I underestimated Negi and overestimed So. |
Jun-30-11 | | randyjohnson: Caruana the only one with 0 defeat.
It means something.
The only more 2700 guy, the one with 0 defeat after 8 game.Solid preparation. |
Jun-30-11 | | noctiferus: A question for players better than me:
I'm observing Caruana often exiting the opening phase with a weaker position, and overcoming the opponent by superior middlegame understanding.
Am I right?
If I am, would it mean that with a better choice of openings could he become one of the top players?
Txs |
Jun-30-11 | | randyjohnson: I believe that Caruana has an awesome opening preparation. (Avruck like second i believe and also he work with Gelfand)
He is very talented but also very very very good in hard word and home preparation.
I believe that he will be a very good player but is difficult to say it he never will be a 2800 type a player... |
Jun-30-11 | | noctiferus: <Randy>
Thx for your opinion. |
Jun-30-11 | | waustad: The missing game is a Saskrian - So draw in some flavor of a Slav. |
Jun-30-11 | | geeker: Always delightful to see a demolition of the Petroff/Russian as in Negi-So, rd. 8. Though I'm not sure the opening was to blame. So's play has been very uneven, but at least he's taking risks and playing sharply...very few draws in this tourney, btw. |
Jun-30-11 | | Gshock: So, another try for win.. |
Jul-01-11 | | Shams: <noctiferous> I haven't studied it and I'm no expert but even so, my impression is that Caruana is very capable in the openings. Can you give some examples of his inferior preparation? Just one example the other way: F Caruana vs Svidler, 2010 |
Jul-01-11 | | Gshock: what time is game start today? |
Jul-01-11 | | waustad: Final round pairings:
Caruana Fabiano vs So Wesley
Hou Yifan vs Sasikiran Krishnan
Negi Parimarjan vs Laznicka Viktor
It starts 3 hours earlier. |
Jul-01-11 | | beenthere240: <noctiferous>Look at Negi-Caruana in this tournament. After move 14 Black is very active and preparing for an exchange sac while white is still getting his pieces out of the box. I think he did just fine in the opening. |

Jul-01-11
 | | HeMateMe: Ahh, we now have page two. I knew the tournament couldn't be this short. |
Jul-02-11
 | | WannaBe: I just want to know, are the players searched, probed, and asked to remove their shoes when they enter the tournament (hall)?? |
Jul-02-11 | | siamesedream: Congrats to GM Fabiano Caruana. |
Jul-02-11 | | kurtrichards: My congratulations to GM Fabiano Caruana for winning the AAI 2011! And to all the participants too! Congratulations! |
Jul-02-11 | | wordfunph: Congrats to GM Caruana! |
Jul-02-11 | | noctiferus: <shams et al.>
"I haven't studied it and I'm no expert"
It's the same for me. This is the reason I asked comments from better players.
Looking at some engines evals, and doing some analyses, my impression was that "often (?)" he had to climb up, to recover equality.
Anyway, I'm such a bad player that I'm sure I was wrong, given your opinions(: . Glad to be wrong :)PS: may be inthis tournament I was too confident in Stockfish evals in http://livechess.chessdom.com/site/ |
