Nov-02-07 | | suenteus po 147: Does anyone know what time the games start exactly? |
|
Nov-02-07 | | Davolni: wow the games have started!!! |
|
Nov-02-07 | | suenteus po 147: Polgar-Ponomariov is a Ruy Lopez. The live page crashed my browser before I could find out anymore. |
|
Nov-02-07 | | suenteus po 147: Karpov-Topalov is 11 moves deep into a Nimzo-Indian. |
|
Nov-02-07 | | malthrope: Yep a few facts as I see them... Looks like Nisi is either late or more likely his game with Kash will become a makeup game to be played on the first free day. Here is the official schedule for the 'Liga De Campiones Tournament' in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain (November 1-15): Nov 1st // Opening Ceremony and Drawing of Lots
Nov 2nd // Round #1 - 4 PM
Nov 3rd // Round #2 - 4 PM
Nov 4th // Round #3 - 4 PM
Nov 5th // Rest Day! (1)
Nov 6th // Round #4 - 4 PM
Nov 7th // Round #5 - 4 PM
Nov 8th // Rest Day! (2)
Nov 9th // Round #6 - 4 PM
Nov 10th // Round #7 - 4 PM
Nov 11th // Rest Day! (3)
Nov 12th // Round #8 - 4 PM
Nov 13th // Round #9 - 4 PM
Nov 14th // Round #10 - 4 PM
Nov 15th // Closing Ceremony
The time control is 120 minutes plus 30 second increments per move from move number 1 (no additional time added). I think we have Karpov to thank for the three rest days! :-)
_____________________________________
The PGN viewer and system used is my least favorite. It doesn't crash my system but slows it down to a snail's pace... :-( I'll report more if possible. 'Karpov-Topalov' is a Classical Nimzo with 4. Qc2 d5 5. a3 Bxc3+ 6. Qxc3 dxc 7. Qxc4 b6 8. Nf3 0-0 9. Bg5 Ba6 10. Qc2... - Mal |
|
Nov-02-07 | | you vs yourself: Topalov is putting some pressure on Karpov's king with Ba6 and Qa5+. However, this is just temporary as Karpov can castle after g3, Bg2. But Topalov has a permanent weakness, the c-pawn, that Karpov can soon target. Not to mention, Topalov's bishop and queen would look misplaced once Karpov castles. |

Nov-02-07 | | capablancakarpov: I´m from Vitoria, the playing hotel is at 25 minutes walking from my house, the next week, probably tuesday i will visit the hotel to see the games and some of my idols ( Karpov, Nisipeanu,Polgar,Topalov... well, almost all my idols!). |

Nov-02-07 | | Ezzy: Kasimjanov v Nisipeanu postponed until the rest day on sunday |
|
Nov-02-07 | | you vs yourself: 15.e4 by Karpov is unexpected. I thought g3,Bg2,0-0 would be better since he can put pressure on the long diagonal while his king's position and pawn structure will be solid. Maybe he thought his bishop on the a8-h1 diagonal is less powerful after Topalov plays Rab8 or Rad8 and that black's bishop on a6 has more potential. |
|
Nov-02-07 | | malthrope: 'Karpov-Topalov' move updates... 16... Qb7 17. Re1 - Clocks: W: 28:40 // B: 1:32 and counting... <Ezzy: Kasimjanov v Nisipeanu postponed until the rest day on sunday> Right <Ezzy> that's what I suspected and why I gave the full schedule. :-) |
|
Nov-02-07 | | Davolni: does anybody know if Karpov is in good shape??
Has he been playing recently?
Is that really a good idea to have a match up like that? because Topalov has been active and playing, which I don't know about Karpov! |
|
Nov-02-07 | | Ezzy: <Right <Ezzy> that's what I suspected and why I gave the full schedule. :-)> Yeah sorry mate, missed that. My observation skills are not up to par today. Good job I'm not playing chess today :-) |
|
Nov-02-07 | | malthrope: 'Karpov-Topalov' update... 17... Ne8 18. h4 Nd6 19. Rh3 Nb5 - Clocks: W: 19:00 & counting... // B: 1:24:55 BTW: First rest day is on Monday (Nov 5th). :-) |
|
Nov-02-07 | | malthrope: No problem <Ezzy> it's just difficult moving so slowly (like a snail but much worse!). ~lol~ Right <Davolni> Karpov's most recent tourney (classical) was Bosna '07 where he placed 3rd behind Roiz and Atalik. I was wondering just how far back we have to go to even find a 'Karpov-Topalov' encounter? ;-) |
|
Nov-02-07 | | Ezzy: <Davolni: does anybody know if Karpov is in good shape??> Yeah he's playing quite well. Last year he played Leko in an 8 game rapid match and only lost by one game 4.5 - 3.5 3rd at Gorenje in June gaining a couple of rating points. Also performed quite creditably in a huge rapid open this year. So yeah he's doing pretty good! |
