Nov-15-07 | | scholes: <anyone>how much elo Topalov is gaining since euro team cup . ASAIK he has gone +7 -1 since euro cup |
Nov-15-07 | | s4life: 12 points, apparently |
Nov-15-07 | | Marvol: <ivan999: Good observation, but you forgot to mention Tal memorial is still in progress.> Well I put in my first post 'Tal so far'. But yes, YMMV. |
Nov-15-07 | | hitman84: I think Topalov has great stamina.
He plays uncompromising chess throughout the tourney which helps him make late comebacks and he has been doing this for quite some time now. Sofia M-Tel and this tourney were relatively easier to make a comeback, given the strength of the players. |
Nov-15-07 | | hitman84: I really liked the organization of this tourney. The glass room and the charity show were really good ideas! It was also good to see Karpov (Khalifman's replacement) back in the top league. |
Nov-15-07 | | chessmoron: <Karpov (Khalifman's replacement)> It's actually Nisipeanu--a great fighter! |
Nov-15-07 | | fromoort: <hitman84>Ponomariov's (alleged) comment about the claustrophobic nature of the glass room is very valid though - I can see this being an issue very easily. |
Nov-15-07 | | HoLySmOkE: <KamikazeAttack: I didn't see a pic of Danailov during the tournament.> Why do you need such pic, you want to put it on your wall? |

Strangely enough, I do. BS can be interesting at times. |

Nov-15-07 | | capablancakarpov: Well, here are some pictures that i take yesterday of the playing glass hall. http://picasaweb.google.es/miticoja... |
Nov-15-07 | | ivan999: great pictures, thanks for posting them! |
Nov-15-07
 | | WannaBe: Oh, very nice pictures!! The setup of the glass, and the arbiter, almost look like a a couple in a restaurant with a waiter! (Especially in the Polgar-Topalov pics =) |
Nov-15-07 | | grebenarov: That's great! Thanks <capablancakarpov> for posting these pictures (quality is very good actually).
It is interesting, in one picture I see Topalov standing together with Karpov looking at two others play. Tell us please, were they allowed to talk to each other quietly commenting other players' positions? Were they talking to each other at all? |
Nov-15-07 | | capablancakarpov: <grebenarov> No, i don´t think so. Ponomariov-Kasimdzhanov game generated a lot of interest among other players, sometimes 3 of the other were watching that game, but talking is strictly banned and the referee was quite close. For example, one day Karpov finished his game and was being interviewed outside the glass hall and he refused to give specific variations about the remaining games, arguing that yes, they don´t hear nothing inside the urn except the applauses, but anyway... |
Nov-15-07 | | Kwesi: hmmm - all of Polgar's wins were with black. |
Nov-15-07 | | beenthere240: Kwesi -- and 2 of them came after blunders when white was winning. |
Nov-17-07 | | 14 Dog Knight: capablancakarpov, very interesting pictures, especially the 2nd from left 4th row of Nisipeanu's unusual clothes as he looks at Kasim's game. No wait - that's Judit... |
Nov-17-07 | | 14 Dog Knight: Is it just me or does that charity fashion show at the tnmt have the worst clothes ever?
http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp... |
Nov-17-07
 | | paulalbert: <14 Dog Night> I had the same reaction to the clothes in the fashion show. ABSURD! We had 13 dogs at one time when I was a boy, so you have me beaten by one. What breed? Paul Albert |
Nov-17-07 | | 14 Dog Knight: Hi Paul,
Two of my dogs passed away this last year or so and I'm down to 12. They are: 1 lab/husky, 4 lab/husky/sharpei, 1 pointer, 1 miniature pinscher, 1 pekingese, 2 german shepard mixes, 1 papillon mix, and 1 unknown. They were all strays, abandoned, rescues, or born here. If you love dogs you should check out MyDogSpace.com. Everyone there is real nice and all have pics and vids of their dogs posted. |
Nov-17-07 | | 14 Dog Knight: I just read your profile, Paul. Very impressive. I almost met Larry Christiansen when he was a member of my club but he left a year or so before I joined. But I did se Yasser Seirawan and Jack Peters at a weekend open once. My biggest thrill though was seeing Peter Falk, who is an avid player watching games. He even wore his trenchcoat! By the way, at MyDogSpace, I am Rinzou |

 | | paulalbert: < 14 Dog Night > Thanks for response. I looked at your pictures at MyDogSpace. You have a really diverse group. My 13 when I was a boy were all pedigreed Great Danes.
My twin sister is the President & Founder of the No Need for Speed Foundation in Allentown, PA, a greyhound rescue organization. She has 3 rescued greyhounds at home.
I haven't had any dogs since my boyhood. My wife is German, and although she likes dogs, her standard of cleanliness is such that she would never tolerate a dog in our house.
Getting back to chess, I have known Larry Christiansen and his wife Natasha, also a decent tournament player, for many years. Larry won my U.S. championship brilliancy prize several times. I don't see them often, Natasha occasionally at Foxwoods where she plays,[ I just visit Foxwoods one day to see people I know, not to play since spending Easter playing chess is not something my wife of 40 years would view favorably ] but Larry has not played there for several years.
