playground player: It's frightening to see such things happen to players who are much better than I am--but also encouraging, in a perverse sort of way.
Feb-01-07  Dr.Lecter: Castling is just a way to make it looke more artistic. If black played Ke7, it would have been the same result.

Otherwise, great game!

IMlday: Donner would have been happy because he beat Yanofsky, but Suttles (vs Ree) and I won with Black and Macskasy drew Kuijpers. There were several rounds left in the prelim group and only at the end did the tie-break become critical to qualifying to the A-group. I don't think Prins played on after ..Qe4+ but Cozens added the finale for drama in the first edition of "The King Hunt". The second edition also corrected my name from D. Laurence. In the post mortem Robert Hubner, who I knew from the '67 World Junior, suggested 11.g3 as a theoretical improvement (there wasn't much theory back then.)
Feb-01-07  mac17: Great pun!
Jul-06-07  sanyas: But it was already used for L Day vs B Harper, 1975. Doesn't chessgames.com keep track of these things?

What an outrage! Have you demanded a refund?

Jul-06-07  sanyas: <keypusher> No, I now see that they've added in an article before this title, so they get off on a technicality.
Aug-13-07  Tenderfoot: <Defiler> Great point, man. I was referring to the lost opportunity to get checkmate by castling. It was my attempt at humor. Better luck next time I suppose!
Apr-14-08  Judah: <Phony Benoni: Not a bad pun, but I would have preferred "Someday My Prins Will Come".>

nice, that one's much better

Jan-02-09  WhiteRook48: Hard Day's Knight? Was this game played at Knight?
Jan-25-09  WhiteRook48: and I would have preferred ...Ke7#

Phony Benoni: It's funny. If you look at Ed Lasker vs G A Thomas, 1912 where White played 18.Kd2#, a clear majority is in favor of 18.0-0-0#! We chess players are a contrary bunch, and hard to please.

Penguincw: I think this is one of the latest castlings I've ever seen.
Feb-01-11  wordfunph: <Penguin> got this info on latest castling..

48...0-0, Neshewat-Garrison, Detroit 1994. Black won eight moves later.

Penguincw: <wordfunph> Thanks. That is a really late castling.
Aug-26-11  Tigranny: I think Ke7# looks prettier so that it shows that the king can be part of the battle in the middlegame. Otherwise, nice mate.
Sep-16-13  soberknight: O-O-O mate!!
Dec-16-14  Chessdreamer: Day comments 28..Qe4+ <And my opponent resigned, unwillingly to investigate 29 K-B6 Q-B4+ 30 K-N7 Q-N3+ 31. K-R8 and Black has a choice of absurd mates.> "Learn from the Grandmasters" (Edited by Raymond D. Keene).
Dec-16-14  TheFocus: Prince for a day.

FSR: <Chessdreamer> is correct. The citation he mentions is on page 108 of Keene's book. Correction slip submitted.
Jan-25-16  MichaelJHuman: Second game I was sent to from a list claiming win by castle. And both games seem as if they were revised since the list was made.
Mar-18-18  Gregor Samsa Mendel: <zb2cr: Just for completeness...if White plays 29. Kd6, then 29. ... Qc6+; 30. Ke5, Qc5+; 31. Kf6, Qf5+ etc.>

Actually, after 29 Kd6 Rc8 white has no way to prevent 30..Rc6#.

And a mere 12 years later, I came to this game hoping to suggest it.

Jul-26-22  Marcelo Bruno: <soberknight> Idel Becker, in his "Manual de Xadrez" (Chess Manual), considers as one more known game that ends with castling mate. He mentions one other game, with short castling mate, won by Morphy at QR odds, and only quotes another game, that was won by Emanuel Lasker. I haven't still found this last one.
