JenShahade: <dcj1955: Good morning Jen & Natalia! Jen, did you agree with Kasparov's choice for best game at the US Championship? What was your choice?> Funny that you ask I actually predicted his choices in order :) I also really liked Kamsky-Nakamura. It seemed like Gata played really passively, but in reality Nakamura just played super-well and of course it was the critical game of the tournament and a mammoth task for Hikaru (beat Gata with Black.)

Natalia Pogonina: <Bobby Fiske> Carlsen has a good chance of winning then, given how his match on the Colbert Report went!
May-28-12  MrSpock: Kramnik criticizes 20. ... a5.

  Richard Taylor: Draw!
May-28-12  SetNoEscapeOn: no defense for this
May-28-12  talisman: draw...........
May-28-12  bernieno: To avoid playoffs it is of course possible to have a world championship tournament. Perhaps like the old candidate tournaments, 6 players playing each other 4 times?

kingscrusher: <Natalia> Just admit it - you like rapid chess :). There is no shame to publically saying you like blitz and rapid chess. You have had 2900+ performances in this format too! Aronian is the current World blitz champion isn't he?!

It is to do with pattern recognition. The truly good rapid players just play their classical game quicker in shorter time controls. It is not just about 2-3 move tricks at all. You can still play the same opening theory, etc - especially with an increment - you can get to play endgames out too.

Surely most people are eagerly looking forward to the Rapid play offs in this match?!

SteinitzLives: Other websites show game over 1/2 - 1/2
May-28-12  Ulhumbrus: Gelfand has gone after the d3 pawn. 22 Ne1 defends the d3 pawn and the knight will be free to move after White's King reaches e2. With white's bishop on c5, Black's king's bishop cannot go to b4 to attack white's knight on e1.
May-28-12  MindCtrol9: Playing White <22.Ne1> protecting the pawn and after that <Kf1-f3-Ke2> That what I would play if I had a position like that.
May-28-12  lost in space: draw agreed. Nice. I like it. Wonderful.
May-28-12  whiteshark: 22 moves as predicted.
May-28-12  dcj1955: @Jen - I was very disappointed with the way Kamsky played v. Naka! I like both players, but Kamsky let me down again!

JenShahade: <amit777> I like your first two ideas better than your third. Another possibility is to use the system we used in "Extreme Chess" Have a final round with a classical time control, but if the game is drawn, reverse colors and keep clock times. For instance, in this case, we'd move to a 55 minute game for Anand and 15 minutes for Anand, with Gelfand taking White. This system would require delay instead of increment though. There was an interesting article on CLO by my brother and another by Tom Braunlich touching on this. http://main.uschess.org/content/vie...
May-28-12  Gordon1306: <Amit777: I thought that the game was heading for a draw when Anand chose to exchange queens rather than playing Qg3.> Yep. My thought so too. I would have prefered Anand to go Qg3.
May-28-12  Edmontonchessclub: "Draw offers should not be allowed in World Championships."__Vladimir Kramnik (just now).
May-28-12  amit777: Can someone explain to me WHY you would accept a draw when you have a 56-16 minute time advantage in a game that is equal but not balanced???

Maybe my dice idea was not as silly as I thought. Very disappointed here with Anand!

May-28-12  Octavia: So, women get bribed for keeping their grade low : )

How can you have patriotic feelings? The top players change their nationality all the time! Furthermore a nation is a very arbitary notion - I don't pay any attention to what country you're from - it's not your choice unless you leave it voluntarily..

May-28-12  Eyal: Kramnik is very surprised - says that Anand's decision to end the game at this point, with still some temsion in the position and a big time advantage, doesn't bode well for the state of his nerves.
May-28-12  Ulhumbrus: Perhaps Anand thinks that he has a better chance of winning the rapid games match, but this seems an unsatisfactory way to decide the match. The traditional 24 game match may have been the right way.

chessgames.com: That's it for round 12, this match is hereby going into overtime! Thanks for everybody for participating especially our special WGM guests.

Here's the schedule: tomorrow the players take another rest day then a match of four rapids (25' + 10s/move) will take place on Wednesday morning at 4:00am (USA/Eastern). If those four rapids fail to produce a winner, sudden death blitz phase begins.

We'll be back then to see who is crowned champion. Hope to see you all back!
