An Englishman: Good Evening: Yes, and where is Schulten-Morphy?
Jan-24-06  Fischer of Men: I just added it.
Feb-12-06  Fischer of Men: Apparently that game is ECO C31 so it was already in the database.
Jul-07-06  Wassily: 8. ... Bf2+
Jul-07-06  KingG: <8. ... Bf2+> What about it?
Jan-08-08  crwynn: It's not good ;)
Feb-13-08  ganstaman: I used to be scared of the Falkbeer, but now I realize that it gives white similar developmental advantage and central control as the KGA without the investment of a pawn. I'm certainly not scared anymore.
Nov-28-10  rapidcitychess: A quick check with my shiny new MCO-15 reveals this gambit is pretty alright. Lots of and and and = floating around.

My gut says this must be pretty bad. You don't have the infamous ...Bb4+ of the Albin, so where's the good stuff? The central wedge seems short lived, and the pawn minus will take its toll.

Or maybe not.

Any resident experts on the Falkbeer??

Oct-01-11  DeReFormation: Are there any games of the Alapin V.(C32)
Oct-01-11  Shams: <DeReFormation> Can you give the moves, please?
Oct-01-11  MaxxLange: Sadly, White can just get a better ending, if they know their stuff, against a lot of the fun lines for Black
Oct-02-11  HSOL: Shams:
Alapin variation: 1.e4 e5 2.f4 d5 3.exd5 e4 4.d3 Nf6 5.dxe4 Nxe4 6.Nf3 Bc5 7.Qe2 Bf2+ 8.Kd1 Qxd5+ 9.Nfd2
Oct-02-11  Shams: <HSOL> Isn't that line just known to be bad for Black?
Oct-02-11  Shams: Even though the main lines favor White, I feel like Black can get pretty good play-- at least against me. Lately I've preferred Spassky's idea <1.e4 e5 2.f4 d5 3.exd5 e4 4.d3 Nf6 5.dxe4 Nxe4> as usual and now <6.Be3 Qh4+ 7.g3 Nxg3 8.Nf3 Qe7 9.Nxg3 Qxe3+ 10.Qe2 Qxe2+ 11.Bxe2> with a more comfortable ending.
