Peter Morten was born in 1929 in a British Army Camp in Wiesbaden, Germany. Back in the UK in the early-1940's he later met Leonard William Barden and Michael J Franklin. During the late 1940's he played frequently at the Gambit Chess Rooms in Holborn, London where he met players like Harry Golombek. After he emigrated to New Zealand he played at the Auckland Chess Centre during the 1970's. He later became President of the Howick - Pakuranga Chess Club. His son Paul Morten also plays chess.

(Poisonous chemical?) "Benzol" - it's great stuff. Oil is an essential product. We get plastics, medicines and life-gving petrol. I would say "life-enhancing" chemical.

  Richard Taylor: Leonard Barden still does the Gaurdian weekly problem and the NZ Listener. I look at the Listener one each week. Some interesting problems, pity no games as in the old days...
