Penguincw: I heard Castaneda played 36 rated games in August and gained 55 rating points to rise to 2501. Not bad for a junior.

BTW: He is an IM now.

Penguincw: Still an IM, but 12th seed Kevel Oliva Castaneda was the highest finishing IM at the Sant Marti Open.

He finished with 7/9 (+6,-1,=2), good for sole third. He also gained 12.8 rating points.

Unfortunately, a devastating last round loss with white to eventually winner GM Sundar M Shyam cost him the GM norm, as his TPR was 2599. However, if I use a TPR calculator such as this one (, his TPR is actually 2601.
