[what is this?]
Johannes Kohtz was born in Elblag* and died in Dresden. He was a composer, chess historian and director of a railway company. He composed almost all of his problems with his friend Carl Kockelkorn (1843-1914) and together they published two works, '101 Ausgewahlte Schachaufgaben' in 1875 and 'Das Indische Problem' in 1903. Kohtz wrote on the game's pre-history in 1910 and worked with Otto Gustav Koch (1849-1919) in writing the historical introduction to the 8th edition of Paul Rudolf von Bilguer 's Handbuch des Schachspiels.
