Sally Simpson: Picked up this lad's '300 Most Important Chess Positions' a few days ago for £1.00. Just got around to thumbing through it.

He wants you to study five positions a week for a year adding the less you know is good because that way your have less to forget. (I can't argue with that.)

Loads of example (300!) but the majority do not have the the complete game and you are left hanging with an apparently positionally won game. Not showing the complete game in any book has always been an irritation of mine. Even if you just mention a game you should give it. Stick it at the back of the book with no notes.

Most of the examples are well known games so no trouble in digging them out or recalling them - however having just been advised knowing less is good, should I be recalling the games I know, or trying to forget them.

Nice and chatty intro's to each diagram and I've already picked up an idea or two I can pass onto the kids. So well worth the £1.00 already.

The retail is £17.99. There is no way I'd pay that for any chess book especially one that wants to turn me into a monk by studying, in depth, five positions a week. I'll do one month, that why I'd have even less to forget...which is good. Yes?
