Tabanus: GM Valerij Filippov, Russia, born 28 November 1975. Now rated 2566, http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?...

GM in 1996. Rating peaks: 2632 in 2001 (world rank: 53) and 2639 in 2004 (world rank: 53)

Played for Russia II in the olympiad 1998 (board 2), and for Russia in European Team Ch 1999 (board 1). Eliminated by GM Alexander Grischuk in r. 3 of the 2004 FIDE Knockout Matches.

Biography:
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waleri... (in Polish)

He lost against GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly today in the 1st round of the 3rd World Cup (2009)

Nov-21-09   Prugno: <Tabanus> I think that last sentence is incorrect, in fact Valeri Filippov appears not to have been very active lately.

Ganguly's victim today, and I suspect the author of most of the games on this page in the last couple of years, was the young Uzbek GM Anton Filippov. You can also check that out comparing their opening repertoire: Valeri usually plays closed openings with White and the Pelikan with Black, while Anton is more a fan of open games.

Tabanus: <Prugno> You are right, thanks, the list in World Cup (2009) is wrong. The official site lists GM Anton Filippov:
