??? BIOGRAPHY ???

Outside of chess, I also like to watch sports (who doesn't), and even play sports (even though I'm not great at it). Baseball is by far my favourite sport.

??? GAME COLLECTIONS ???

Penguincw's Game Collections

To view all my collections, see here: Game Collection: 0: Table of Contents.

??? CHESS PUZZLES ???

Here are some chess puzzles I composed. I'm not a very strong composer, but they should be fun to solve nevertheless. However, since my forum won't always be open, I decided to use one of my game collections for that purpose:

Game Collection: Chess Puzzles

Here's a sample:

White to move, mate in three

??? ACHIEVEMENTS ???

Here's my short list of achievements on this site (other than achievements relating to the prediction contests, which are listed further below):

966th user to open up their forum.

Became the 45th user to reach 13,000 posts (unofficial).

Only the 2nd user (honour shared with 7 other users) to win a membership from the Santa Claus draw twice.

In the ChessBookie Game, finished first in the Championship 2015 preseason with 1727 cbs, 174 cbs ahead of 2nd place. Also, in the Fall 2014 preseason, I finished in 2nd with 1418 cbs, just 40 cbs behind first at the last known update.

4th user, and 3rd overall (after <SwitchingQuylthulg> (x2), <wordfunph> and <Annie K.>) to run the ChessBookie Game.

At the 2016 Caissar Awards, I was nominated and won the "Most Helpful" award for 2015.

In Spring 2016, I became the 172nd user to qualify for the Championship Leg in the ChessBookie Game, finishing in 10th place with 4,204 cbs. (fact-checking needed)

??? PREDICTION CONTESTS ???

??? NOTABLE POSTS ???

I've made over 13,000 posts, but not all posts are created equally. In fact, most of them don't have too much value, but here are some of my best posts:

Probably my most "viral" post to date (introducing the now defunct Chessgames Playing Zone The Kibitzer's Café

Probably the first <on the internet> to notice the Original Six sweep the Tampa Bay Lightning were going through during the Stanley Cup playoffs, 2015: Mating Net chessforum.

Penguincw: Yes! Victory. 1000 kibitzes!! The time has come.My 1000th kibitz:20th Amber Tournament (Rapid) (2011). Wow.I'm amazed. My most recent prediction date was Monday March 28th,2011.I'm two weeks ahead of my prediction. My account is only 82 days old. The average amount of kibitzes per day for me is 12.195121.The number I got on my computer calculator is actually 12.1951211951211951211951211951211951219512 but note that <195121> keeps repeating itself.Well, let's see how many I did for each month:

December : 66

January : 214

February : 377

March : 343

For March, this is how many posts so far.Well,if I made any errors, please do speak up.

Domdaniel: The repeating digits are 12195, not 121951. The reason is simple: the factors of 11111 (or repunit 5) are 41 and 271 --- and 41 is half of your divisor, 82.

Page 3 : Monday March 14th,2011

Today was not a good day as the two previous days.Let's see what went wrong for me today:

Amber Blindfold: Rd 3: Aronian vs Carlsen : Draw [cash in ticket] 5 YOU WIN! COLLECT 12 10:7 2.44 12 Mar-14-11

Ok.That was the only right part.Well,my net worth is up to 1100 chessbucks.

Amber Rapid: Rd 3: Pick Three : Draw-Draw-Draw [discard ticket] 2 LOSE 4:1 5.17 -- Mar-14-11

Well, that was something that went wrong today. The payout was 10.Now,my net worth sipped down to 1098 chessbucks.

Amber Rapid: Rd 3: Topalov vs Kramnik : Draw [discard ticket] 5 LOSE 3:4 1.76 -- Mar-14-11

Well,I'm happy for Topalov that he won.I lost interest in him a few months ago.I remember when he was really good at chess.Because of his recent results,I decide to bet on a draw.Well, there goes my net worth back down to 1093 chessbucks. The payout was 9 chessbucks. There is one difference though. My funds is now 1050 chessbucks. So,I lost 5 chessbucks.Frown.Maybe I'll make improvement tomorrow.I'm kind of scared though.I accidently bet 10 chessbucks on Karjakin vs. Kramnik.I clicked the <placed bet> button twice.

Old Funds : 1055 chessbucks
Old Net Worth : 1093 chessbucks (maximum bet is 200)

New Funds : 1050 chessbucks
New Net Worth : 1093 chessbucks (maximum bet is 200)

Mar-14-11  wordfunph: <Penguincw: Yes! Victory. 1000 kibitzes!! The time has come.>

congrats!

Today was a pretty bad day for me in the Chessbookie Game

Amber Blindfold: Rd 4: Karjakin vs Kramnik : Draw [discard ticket] 10 LOSE 2:1 3.08 -- Mar-15-11

Well.First of all,I accidently bet 10 by clicking the <Place Bet> button twice.Hmph.My net worth now slips down to 1,083 chessbucks. The payout was 30 if it won.It was all because of Karjakin's preparation.

Amber Blindfold: Rd 4: Pick Three : White-White-Draw [discard ticket] 2 LOSE 106:1 106.73 -- Mar-15-11

Well, what are the chances of winning Pick 3.To be honest with you,I think I never won Pick 3 before. But I'm still trying. The payout was huge though, since the odds are low.The payout was 213!Now,my net worth is 1,081.

Amber Rapid: Rd 4: Ivanchuk vs Aronian : Draw [discard ticket] 5 LOSE 1:2 1.51 -- Mar-15-11

Well, even though there was high odds, the odds weren't in my favour. The game was won by Aronian.Ivanchuk definely hasn:t showed his best at this tournament.Good thing I didn't bet any money on him as any Amber winner (no offense to Ivanchuk). So,the payout was 9,and now my net worth has sliped down to 1,076 chessbucks.Tomorrow is a rest day,so there will be no betting.I hope I have better luck in Round 5.

Old Funds : 1055 chessbucks
Old Net Worth : 1093 chessbucks (maximum bet is 200)

New Funds : 1050 chessbucks
New Net Worth : 1076 chessbucks (maximum bet is 200)

Penguincw: I'm releasing the solution for my second puzzle.So.Here's the puzzle: Black to move, mate in three (see diagram 1).

Ok.Let's dive into the solution. It starts with 1...♗f2+ (see diagram 2)forking the king and queen. If 2.♕xf2 (see diagram 7) then just 2...♕xf2# (see diagram 8) so that's not going to happen. The only other move is 2.♔f1.So 2.♔f1 is the best defense (see diagram 3).The next move is 2...♕h3+(see diagram 4) forcing the bishop to block (see diagram 5).The final move is 3...♕xg2# (see diagram 6).Nice puzzle eh? What do you think?

Page 5 : Thursday March 17th,2011

Well.Today was a much better day than yesterday. But I still have to discard most of my tickets.

Amber Blindfold: Rd 5: Ivanchuk vs Carlsen : Draw [discard ticket] 5 LOSE 2:1 2.90 -- Mar-17-11

Well, there goes 5 of my chessbucks. The payout would've been 9 chessbucks,if it won.Now my net worth slips down to 1071 chessbucks.

Amber Blindfold: Rd 5: Pick Three : Draw-Draw-Draw [discard ticket] 2 LOSE 12:1 12.59 -- Mar-17-11

Still can't get the hang of it.I think my goal should be to get Pick 3 right, without wagering on each possible outcome by the end of the year. The payout was 25 chessbucks.Net worth now down to 1069 chessbucks.

Amber Rapid: Rd 5: Karjakin vs Anand : Draw [cash in ticket] 5 YOU WIN! COLLECT 16 9:4 3.26 16 Mar-17-11

At first,I thought it lost. But as it turned out,it won.Net worth raises up to 1080.

So all in all,today wasn't a bad day.I gained 4 chessbucks.

For the next round,I'm going to use my old strategy.I'm going to pick only one event.Just one.Not 2,not 3,not all (well,I think you get it now).Just one. But,I'm going to wager on all the possible outcomes for that event.I think I've been more successful this away.Well, let's see how it works.

Old Funds : 1050 chessbucks
Old Net Worth : 1076 chessbucks (maximum bet is 200)

New Funds : 1036 chessbucks
New Net Worth : 1080 chessbucks (maximum bet is 200)

Mar-17-11  wordfunph: <Penguin> only +$85 for Amber's 5th round, i'm still deep in the cellar waiting for the big leap.. :)

good luck in the 6th round..
