 | | nasmichael: Just for contrast, the person in 10th place lost 2 games. A player who tied for 4th lost 2 games as well. Of the 10 games played by Timman, 8 of his opponents couldn't beat him. I am not a Timman fan or foe, but just looking at the numbers, I wanted to see it said that the management of the wins is important for the prize, but for proving mastery, managing the losses are equally important. |

10 games, all draws, longest 33 moves. Bazna Kings Tournament (2007)/Zoltan Ribli is no better as his only decent game was 53 moves with black against Timman who was pushing. If you don't want to play, why bother showing up at all? No-one, I am sure, will mourn if these blokes never ever get an invitation to any OTB tournament again. Boy what a waste. Of time, of organising effort, of sponsor money... yuck. This is just as bad for chess sponsorship as FIDE's antics. |
